Review: I admit this movie may not be everyone's cup of tea, but being a hopeless romantic I was a sucker for the transformation from ugly "duckling" to "swan". I thought this was a wonderful movie and I loved the dancing and the music. I would recommend it to all hopeless romantics . . .

Review: I thoroughly enjoyed the movie. The dancing and costumes were great. I was confused though, not knowing if I should take it seriously since one minute I was crying and the next laughing. But, I was entertained every minute. I laughed, cried and loved the music and dancing.

Review: This remains a favorite of mine. As a former resident of Australia, I think Strictly Ballroom represents the best of that country. Paul Mercurio is as nice as he is talented.

Review: What can I say which other reviews before me haven't said yet?! They all expressed the movie very well.Lots of memorable scenes in this movie. The actors have great chemistry together! The screen just sizzles........ You won't be disappointed with the movie, PLUS you won't forget it!

Review: Once was not enough. I had to own a copy of the movie and watch the screen sizzle as Scott and Fran danced through the movie over and over again! They had GREAT chemistry together!! There are LOTS of memorable scenes and music in the movie (Fran & Scott's dance on the rooftop, romantic dance backstage, and Paso Doble just to name a few...) I would like to see more of these type of movies made. You will not be disappointed!

Summary: Strangely good...
Review: I must admit that at the start of this movie I wondered what I had gotten myself into, but somewhere along the way it pulled me in. This may not be a great movie, but is very good. And the last dance sequence (the Paso Doble) was worth wait -- absolutely incredible. Oh, and one of the best lines is when Fran's grandmother tells her that "A life lived in fear is a life half lived." Now, that's profound!

Review: A lot of good movies come out of Austrailia, & this is one of my favorites. An unlikely couple upset the comfortable (& lucrative) applecart of the ballroom dancing establishment. Champion dancer Scott has been groomed from birth by his domineering mother to realize her vicarious dream of winning the Austrailian Pan-Pacific Championship. But Scott has become bored with being "strictly ballroom"--the wretched boy wants to 'dance his own steps!' Not only is this heresy, but a threat to the very livelihood of his teachers & 'mentors', retired champion dancers themselves. He's encouraged by ugly duckling novice dancer Fran, who wants to be his partner. Aided & abetted by Fran's Latin father & grandmother, the couple show the phoney world of ballroom dancing what 'Latin' dancing is all about--not glitz & formality--but passion & a feeling for the beat that comes straight from the heart. Love & rebellion are in the air, & the dancing is spectacular. Some wickedly funny & campy parody deal the stilted & controlling world of competition ballroom dancing a well-deserved kick in the teeth. (Anyone who watched in disbelief as Torvill & Dean were cheated out of their comeback bid for Olympic gold in ice dancing [the figure skating equivalent of ballroom dancing] by the same sort of stupid & arbitrary rules about 'steps' will chortle with glee.) But, more than anything, Strictly Ballroom is about having the courage to be yourself. As Scott's father (once a great & original dancer himself, now a sad & henpecked shadow of his former self) says to him: "Don't make the same mistake I did....a life lived in fear is a life half-lived." Truly uplifting to the spirit & heart!

Review: One of the best movies I have seen of this type. We have watched this movie at least twice a year since the beginning. Typical parent "where did I go wrong" to the corrupt head of the federation, everyone rings true. This movie also has a Cinderella story built in with Fran as Cinder. Enough pathos and hysterics for the whole crowd. Many memorable lines too. When will it be on DVD?????
