Summary: A Masterpiece
Review: This is a movie that is a masterpiece all around, it is definitely the best foreign film i've ever seen and ranks exceptionally high as one of the best movies (generalized) I've ever viewed. It is incredible. The plot is highly creative and delightfully unique. Audrey Tautou's elfish personality shines into the feel good quality of the movie. The cinematography should have won the oscar, the characters are memorable, and the list goes on. This movie is an entirely charming story of 1) a girl changing people's lives and 2) a girl after her once upon a dream love. It realizes the simple joys in life, and is, quite simply, a real breath of fresh air from the typical romantic comedy. This is a film that was created by artists, but can be enjoyed by everyone, not just the art house crowd. This is one movie that really could make someone believe that life is beautiful.* I highly recommend this to nearly everyone.

Summary: Amelie - over-rated
Review: First of all, I've read some of the reviews for Amelie, so I know it was loved by almost everyone, but I must say it was too cutesy for me. Audrey Tautou is adorable, but, enough is enough! I saw her face (with the same few expressions) far too often. It was a good premise, doing good without personal reward, but the love story part was pretty lame - or maybe the movie should have been shorter. I was quite ready to leave about 30 minutes before it was over. I haven't seen any other movies by this director, so maybe it's just his style that I didn't like.
I typically enjoy foreign films, which are generally more real and thought provoking than American movies, but this one wasn't at the top of my list. I'd have enjoyed it more if I saw it at home, and could have done my ironing at the same time.

Summary: HEY YOU! yeah YOU! read this RE-VEUUUU (review)
Review: Jean-Pierre Jeunet is THE most brilliant director ever. Even tho Alien Reserrection wasnt THAT good- it still has his unique mark on it, that being said - his other two movies that he made with Marc Caro were also as imaginative, creative, arty, and just plain mind-blowing- just like surrealistic dreams each frame like a beautiful photograph or painting- Delicatessen, City of Lost Children, and Amelie- are on my top 5 list of all time favorite movies- and i have seen ALOT of movies-1,000's from all over the world of every genre- Amelie has everything a movie maker should want to have in his/her film- unique story told in a unique way, creative camera shots, creative editing, and the cinematography is so beautiful- like the greens, reds, and yellow hues in impressive-style paintings -this is a beautiful love story and is funny too. I hope Jeunet makes 123948820347 more films cuz i will watch them all and love them all too im sure.

Summary: Wonderfully touching and visually stunning!!
Review: ...I was not disappointed with Jeunet's latest work... but is very different in mood and tone. ..."Amalie" is light, innocent and delightfully funny.

Audrey Tautou is a real sweetheart, and shines brightly as the quirky young woman who seeks to touch the lives of those around her, both people she knows and total strangers.

I can't see anyone but the most hardened crusty cynic not being touched by this film (or perhaps someone totally out of touch with their feelings).

Surely this is one of the top 20 movies of all time. Can't wait to own this on on DVD! The DVD extras sound great.

Summary: A Dream Worth Watching
Review: Though redundant in some aspects (many times throughout a point is driven home repeatedly), this movie is a great way to spend a rainy sunday afternoon. Typical love story with some new twists. In a word, cute.

Summary: As good as it gets
Review: American filmmakers should take their cue from this extremely well made romantic comedy which makes almost every Hollywood project look formulaic and trite. It is beautifully realized with imaginative writing, exquisite cinematography, excellent direction, and perfect casting. Jeunet has reached a pinnacle in his style and storytelling, creating a brilliant work teeming with art, poetry, comedy, and love.
Even if romanic comedies generally stick in your craw (as they do with me) this one will make you realize that it can be done sucessfully and beautifully. SEE IT!!!

Summary: Charm without treacle
Review: Audrey Tautou is so masterful in her craft that she can pull off a delightful do-gooder with charm, without being treacly or cloying. She is a consummate actress, a pleasure to watch--plus, the story is different enough to make it worth watching--more than once. Pure pleasure!

Summary: Just lovely
Review: 'Amelie' is a French film that tells of Amelie's (Tatou) desire to help others whilst at the same time realising that she needs helping herself. Usually this kind of movie would be cloying and sentimental but Jean-Pierre Jeunet manages to keep it both light, touching and at times marvellously funny.

Tatou is an absolute revalation as the central character, managing to remain at once cute and feisty. Also important is the manner in which Amelie helps people, not just with small favours but with careful thought and intent that has a beautifully touching effect. Added to this is a wonderful score and sumptuous photography that completely immerses its audience into the streets and gardens of Paris.

What's great about it though is that its never too sentimental and at times is genuinely humorous. For instance, the list of what each character likes and dislikes is fantastically well observed. To conclude, it's been a long time since there's been a movie of this kind that is both heart-felt and touching. This is a movie with bounce in its step - a modern classic!
