Rating: Summary: Encore, Corky! Review: In many ways, Midwesterners represent the best of America -- polite, pleasant and tolerant --, while at the same time being a bit clueless. This film captures that magic. See it. You'll come away feeling better about yourself and our country.
Rating: Summary: FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, DON'T MISS THIS MOVIE!!!! Review: Waiting for Guffman sets a comedic standard which will be hard to surpass! This is the funniest stuff you'll ever see. The ensemble cast is AMAZING, at one moment making you belly-roll in the floor and at the next touching you to the core with their enthusiasm, hopes and dreams. Bare-naked souls who strike a little too close to home at times! Just an amazing piece of work.
Rating: Summary: One of the funniest, slyest movies ever made... Review: Hilarious. Simply hilarious. Anyone that has ever been associated with school theatre, or children's theatre, or adult/community theatre will laugh out loud over and over again. Christopher Guest's portrayal of the flamboyant Corky St. Clair is at once touching, nuanced and over-the-top outrageous. This is the kind of movie you will watch over and over again, and portions of it will stay with you for the rest of your life. (Sadly, the song "Working, working!" has beein in my head for a week now...) Outstanding improv work by the entire cast.
Rating: Summary: Frighteningly funny for anyone who was raised in the Midwest Review: I loved it. I was shocked by it. Frankly it hit a bit close to home. The characters are vivid and cartoonish yet familiar. I found myself wanting a little more from it but it wasn't a disappointment either.
Rating: Summary: FALL DOWN FUNNY Review: This movie is simply amazing. One of the funniest. Its like an instant classic the first time you see it. The next day you will be laughing about it and the next week - until finally you know you have to see it again. And again.
Rating: Summary: Maltin is more like a character in this film than he knows.. Review: I have rarely read a Leonard Maltin review that I agree with, and now I know why. "He doesn't get the Guffman thing!" This is a start-to-finish laugh riot with Christopher Guest at his very best. If you always loved the Chip Dimentibello character from SNL (the flamboyant stage choreographer who also appeared in one of the early Billy Crystal HBO comedy specials) then you will absolutely love "Waiting for Guffman." The entire cast is great, but watching Guest and Eugene Levy ad-lib their way through some of these scenes is just priceless. Fred Willard is also right on the money. This is one of those films you can use to figure out whether you should continue talking with a recent aquaintence about funny movies.
Rating: Summary: He did it again!! Review: I never thought that "This is Spinal Tap" could be beat, but I was soooooo wrong. This one is a classic and I just hope Chritopher Guest continues to keep us laughing this hard!!!
Rating: Summary: An Ode to the Regional Theatre Musical Review: For anyone involved in the performing arts, this is a must see. Much of the film was improvised and the performances are amazing. Like the cult favorite, Rocky Horror Picture Show, this should become a theatre classic.
Rating: Summary: Blaine-tastic Review: Right out of the navy, fresh off a destroyer, young Corky St. Claire had a decision to make. Fortunately for us, the path he chose was the musical theatre. Supported by his strangely absent wife Bonnie, Corky molds the raw talent of Blaine's theatre community into a lean, edgy troupe, poised to take Broadway by storm. I can't really add anything more to the other reviews--I can only say that they're completely on the mark. Definitely a movie that gets funnier with each viewing.
Rating: Summary: "Outstanding comedy which will soon be a classic!" Review: Corky St. Claire can do it all...produce, direct, act and dance! Anyone involved in community theatre will relish this one...bought a copy for friends in England and they are having "Blaine Parties" for their theatre friends! A not miss hit!!*****
