Rating: Summary: One of the all time great movies Review: This movie is awesome. It is brilliantly set up and looks much like a documentary. One of the things I like best about it is that most of the movie is improvised. Few parts of the movie were scripted which I feel is brilliant. The characters in this movie are so easy to feel like you know them, I'm sure you'll see a little bit of some of your friends in each of them. This movie is definately one of the best out there. I Think that if you like this movie you'll also like Drop Dead Gorgeous.
Rating: Summary: I don't get it Review: Judging by everyone else's comments, I guess it's just me...but I just didn't get it. I think the acting was bad (but not bad enough to be funny) and the story wasn't funny. But my biggest surprise is that I seem to be the only one! Come on, people, IS THIS REALLY A GOOD MOVIE?
Rating: Summary: Hilarious, On Our Top 10 List! Review: This treasure is a favorite with my entire family, including 2 teenagers. That it merited an "R" rating is truly tragic, because it means many people who would otherwise love it will avoid seeing it. I honestly can't think why this would be "R" rated, with all the much more explicit sexual and violent scenes in so many "PG-13" movies. Perhaps there was a foul word or two, but certainly no sexual or violent scenes that would keep older children from enjoying it. This is a "must see" movie if you enjoy community theatre or have ever been stage struck. By the way, we are still looking for the "Remains of the Day" lunchboxes, and agree with Corky that any child would be tickled pink to take one to school!
Rating: Summary: Brilliant comedy with good dramatical work. Review: This film was the all time best experience when I saw it at it's original release. To share this film with the +50 or so people there was exhausting but I will always remember it. On video Nothing has been compromised, it still makes me and my friends crazy with laughter. Buy this movie when the DVD is released.
Rating: Summary: Well What Can We Say--We're Pleased as Punch... Review: We are obsessed with this movie--is that bad? People think we're crazy beacuse they see us laughing to ourselves all day but they just don't understand. We firmly believe that it is impossible to watch this movie and NOT be converted to the Cult of Corky. We pledge that by the time we graduate, "Waiting for Guffman" will have become a Dartmouth Tradition. They will learn--as Jacko, Becks, T Dogg, and we have learned--that Corky has a vision. We know that what we do here will be a first for Dartmouth and a first for college campuses everywhere. And who says nothing ever happens in Hanover?
Rating: Summary: If you ever worked on stage or screen..... Review: This is an underground classic among people who work in theatre. It is a classic! And the actual play is better than some of the shows on Broadway right now! If you work in theatre or you know someone who does, please, please get this film!
Rating: Summary: Corky St. Claire Rocks! Review: One of the funniest, as in ha ha hee hee, movies I've ever seen. When you realize, and you must at some point, most of the so-called "script" was improv, it just makes the movie all the more pleasing to the eyes. A thinking-man's comedy, I would definitely recommend to any and all who enjoy laughing. No, really laughing!
Rating: Summary: "Waiting For Guffman" is the best comedy in years! Review: I recommend it to all my friends and I have rented it so many times I can't count, so I decided to buy it! Everyone loves it and it is so much better than some of the movies today. It will make you scream with laughter!
Rating: Summary: You've gotta love Blaine Review: Many, many people told me to see this movie and it took about a year to get to it. Boy, I could have been laughing a whole lot earlier. This really was one of the funniest films I have ever seen. Christopher Guest is brilliant as Corky St. Claire. Catherine O'Hara was so right on in her portrayal of Shiela Albertson (I want to try that less is more kind of acting). This is one of those examples of a flawlessly cast movie. If you have ever been on a stage in your life or know people who have, see this film. "The songs are really catchy, I can't get a few of them out of my head. To an almost annoying point". Stool boom!
Rating: Summary: some funny lines, but lame overall Review: This movie had a strong cast and some funny lines. But overall it was rather pointless and weak. Too many other good movies to waste your time on this one unless you are into strange artsy type movies.
