Summary: Nice try, FOX
Review: Obviously, FOX takes their sweet time between the releases of DVD box sets - and The Simpsons has been no excpetion to this rule. FOX obviously released this set to make a quick buck between box sets. This is terrible, because the time spent to make this DVD could've been better used on the box sets themselves. To make things worse, this only has FOUR episodes! And besides, WHY BOTHER WITH THIS IF THESE EPISODES WILL EVENTUALLY BE IN SEASON BOX SETS ANYWAY? And if FOX has these episodes on DVD NOW, what's taking so long with the box sets?

FINAL VERDICT: DON'T BUY THIS - ONLY BUY THE SEASON BOX SETS! Show FOX what you really want. The only reason I gave this two stars instead of just one is the fact that it's a Simpsons item.

Summary: The forever arguable Greatness of Simpsons
Review: Okay, basically there are three really good episodes on this DVD, and two somewhere between okay and good. There are two episodes with obvious relevance to Christmas, one where Christmas comes in in the middle, one where the only connection is the snow on the ground.

"Simpsons Roasting on an Open Fire"- 8 on a scale of 1 to 10. It's the first half hour episode ever made, and has a strong Christmas connection throughout, but you can own this on the first season DVD.

"Mr. Plow"- 9.5 out of 10. A wonderful episode in which Homer gets a job plowing, but Barney does, too, and steals his business.
There is a connection to winter, but the word "Christmas" isn't even said in the episode. Besides, on June 15th this will be available on the fourth season DVD.

"Miracle on Evergreen Terrace"- 7.5 out of 10. It's a good episode with a bad ending. Bart accidentally burns the Christmas tree and presents, hides it, and claims a burglar took it. A better episode from this time period would have been "Marge be not Proud," which relates to Christmas at the end.

"Grift of the Magi"- 7 out of 10. An evil toy named Funzo must be stopped. It doesn't have a great plot or a great ending. This episode is a good example of how the Simpsons have gone way downhill in recent years. They do, however, commonly have guest stars now, which is good. Gary Coleman guest stars as himself in this episode. Christmas comes in at the end.

"She of Little Faith"- 6 out of 10. Lisa becomes a Buddhist because the church loses its holiness when Mr. Burns puts advertisements and vendors in it. Richard Gere is a guest voice, and Christmas comes in at the end.

"Mr. Burns Featurette"- 2 out of 10. Like the "Kang and Kodos Featurette," this is boring and it's a waste of time to watch it. At least the "Kang and Kodos Featurette" fit in with the Halloween theme, but this doesn't go with the Christmas one.

Summary: Stink, Stank, Stunk! (Unless You Like Your DVDs Cheap)
Review: Okay, we already have one Simpsons Christmas episode on DVD ("Simpsons Roasting On A Open Fire" on the Season One Box Set, commentaries and all), but, if this is like the Treehouse Of Horror DVD (Christmas episodes never before released on DVD, as well as little or no bonuses), then we'll be happy to kill time until the box sets come out.

The Christmas episodes that they concerning putting out (Other than the first one):

Marge Be Not Proud (Season 7)
Miracle On Evergreen Terrace (Season 9)
Grift Of The Magi (Season 11)
Skinner's Sense Of Snow (Season 12)
She Of Little Faith (Season 13)

Let us hope they put out all of those there!!!

Summary: Great Episodes, But We Want More!
Review: One reviewer wrote, "I salute the idea of a special Christmas DVD. Bet next year a volume two comes out." I also salute the idea of a special Winter-themed DVD, but I *hate* getting a DVD with only five episodes on it, crossing my fingers that maybe they'll release a "volume 2" at some point! Come on, folks, what the heck are we waiting for? I'm not getting any younger, you know.

This set gets five stars because I love the Simpsons, and yes, Mr. Plow is one of the Best. Episodes. Ever. But still, that episode will be out when season 4 comes out. Are we really going to have to wait another year for season 4? This is a really sneaky way to extract even more dollars from us, Fox Home Entertainment. I wonder how many sales you're losing due to making consumers angry...

Summary: GREAT STUFF
Review: This as most Simpsons stuff is a funny tv show. This disk gives you 5 episodes which are not just all from the first season as most of the simpsons christmas things do. These are from throughout the series and i think are all pretty good episode. If you get this i know ull be laughing for a while!

Summary: Good idea , poorly executed
Review: This disc was a good idea but poorly executed. I seem to remember a simpsons christmas episode where bart burns all the presents. That was a good episode and wasn't on the disc.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Best. Christmas DVD. Ever
Review: This DVD is like the treehouse of horror DVD but with one more episode. There are no extras just a featurette which is just clips. The episodes are good. It has episodes that are not released on the season DVDs so if you can't wait for the season DVDs to release then get this DVD. If your a true fan then you should get this. Go buy it.

Summary: This is ok!
Review: This DVD is ok but could have been better. This Christmas DVD has some great episodes and one that was just ok. I liked Simpsons Roasting on an Open Fire, Miracle on Evergreen Terrace, She of Little Faith and Mr. Plow but didn't enjoy Gift of the Magi as much as the others. If you are into DVDs that have loads of extras you will probably be disappointed with the one extra thats on this DVD which is just a bunch of clips of Montgomery Burns but I think this DVD is a good gift for people who aren't diehard Simpsons fans and just want to own the holiday episodes on DVD and don't really want to own the season by season DVDs.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Opera Legend Maria Callas appears...
Review: This is a neat collection of clever Christmas episodes. I especially loved seeing legendary opera soprano Maria Callas in the classic "Mr. Plow." She appears in Homer's TV commercial. (Unfortunately, she is uncredited on the DVD box.) It was a pleasant surprise and a great Christmas gift! I would buy the DVD for this episode alone.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Ehhhhhhks-celent (Mostly)
Review: This is a solid collection of Simpsons Christmas episodes. Although "Mr. Plow" isn't technically a Christmas episode it does demonstrate what Jesus would do if He had tricked His best friend and rival snow-plower into taking an impossible and life-threatening job. The other four episodes are all straight-up holiday classics. However, while the Mr. Burns "featurette" is amusing, it falls short of being fantastic.

While some episodes may be available in other collections, there's no disk swapping or hunting for the one you want involved with this DVD. There is a significant delay when accessing the various options on the navigational menus, which is unfortunate because delayed gratification and Christmas don't go together too well these days.

Still, it's Our Favorite Family that we've come to spend the holidays with, and that means putting up with minor quirks and idiosyncrasies. Because whether it's Homer in or out of a Santa suit strangling the boy, or Maggie trying to trick Lisa back into the spirit of the season with a candy cane, or Bart drinking a dozen glasses of water to make sure he gets to the Christmas tree - and gifts - first, or turning the Venetian blinds so Grandpa can't see in the house, or Marge telling Homer to leave the Mr. Plow jacket *on*, these are the memories that will warm our hearts for Christmases to come. As long as you have this DVD, that is.

Now somebody pass me a bloody spearhead cookie, please.

Mmmmmmm, spearhead.
