Summary: One of the Greatest films of all time
Review: We watched Ben-Hur in our History class for the Roman Empire and most of the kids in my class talked most of the way through it. It really frosted my butt because they just don't relize a real classic when they see it. Titanic shoud've never tied it because Titanic is the most ludicris film in the world. Watch this film, the music during the Birth of Christ is almost tear jerking.

Summary: 13 yr old girl
Review: I saw a part of this movie on TV and decided to buy it (that's strange, isn't it? A 13 yr old girl going back to old movies?). I've had it for 2 months now and have watched it about 10 times (my parents can't get me off the screen!). Everytime I watch this movie I cry. The end is so emotional! And the actors are very good. So, young people give it a try!

Summary: They just don't make them like this anymore!
Review: This is my all-time favorite movie. It made an incredible impression on me when I first saw it as a little girl, and the ensuing years haven't diminished its impact one bit! It has everything a movie should have - great action sequences, excellent character portrayals, stunning visuals, a fine story line, and the most beautiful film score ever written. In this era of special effects, flimsy story lines and blatant sensationalism, Ben Hur stands out as a true classic. They just don't make them like this anymore! It's hard to believe that the idiotic movie, Titanic, tied with Ben Hur in winning 11 Academy Awards. There's just no comparison!

Summary: True cinematography!
Review: I purchased this movie when it appeared on the AFI's 100 best films list, and I can safely say it is the best movie on the list that I had not seen before. Heston and all the rest create a truly memorable and human ensemble, with not a single miscast actor. The action is stupendously exhilirating and the viewer will feel the characters' dilemmas and tribulations. This DeMille epic is a must-see for any human being.

Summary: MGM'S GREATEST
Review: William Wyler's version of Ben-Hur is one of my favourite movies. I can recommend it everyone who wants to see a true classic - maybe the "greatest" Hollywood picture in 20th century. The story itself (by Lew Wallace) is an American piece of Weltliteratur. I only want to mention a few things that make this movie so superb: Director William Wyler cumulated Juhah's and Messala's quarrel in the best action sequence ever made: people who regard the chariot race as the most important scene of a superficial "spectacle movie" are not right: a parabel on ancient Rome and early christianity, on the fight between profanity and the true religion. Actor Charlton Heston in his best role. His physique makes everyone believe that he is Judah Ben-Hur. His performance as a man who has lost his family, lost a big part of his property who can't love any more (the former slave Esther (Haya Harareet)) is unique. The brillant film score by Miklos Rozsa: His score for Ben-Hur is made with a psychological raffinement that we hear beyond the great themes and melodies. Except the chariot race we find three other famous sequences: the naval battle (rowing of the galley slaves, score!), the meeting of the two friends Judah und Messala (score!) is shown with a kind of "homoerotic tension", and Michelangelo's creation of Adam screened during the opening title. The end, when Ben-Hur meets his mother and sister, is one the most beautiful sequences in the film. In the end I want to say that the '59er-version of Ben-Hur is the only film that is worth to be honoured with eleven academy awards till nowadays.

Summary: Beautiful epic! Truly a classic.
Review: Ben-hur is one of the greatest movies of all time with drama, inspiration, wit, and great action. The chariot race remains the best action sequence ever filmed. Charlton Heston was wonderful; perfect for Ben-hur, as were all the other actors perfect for their roles. Miklos Rozsa's music score is wonderful too and complements the movie. The entire thing was very well done, and it is truly and epic for all times!

Summary: Would recommand to anyone!
Review: There is no doubt it is a classic. One part I like best is: In the film, God appeared about three or four times. In each, we can only see the back (not the face) of God. Look from behind, he was so tall, devoted, and lonely. You feel you want to cry.

Summary: The Best
Review: If you are going to own only one movie this should be it. This movie has it all. In my opinion this is the best movie ever made and only the widescreen version does it justice on video.

Summary: A CLASSIC FOR ALL TIMES !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Review: THIS MOVIE ALWAYS FILLS ME WITH ADMIRATION. IT PORTRAYS FAITH, HOPE, AND LOVE. THEY DON'T MAKE THEM AS GOOD AS THIS ANYMORE. CHARLTON HESTON IS ONE OF THE GREATEST ACTORS. EVERY ACT HE DOES IS SO "REAL" !!! STEPHEN BOYD, HAYA HARAREET, MARTHA SCOTT AND CATHY O'DONNELL WERE GREAT ALSO. I LIKE ESTHER FOR HER FAITH, BRAVENESS AND LOVE FOR JUDAH. THE CHARIOT RACE IS THE GREATEST SPECTACLE OF THE MOVIE, IT WAS MASTERFULLY DONE. THE ENDING IS SO TOUCHING IT BRINGS TEARS TO YOUR EYES. THIS "TALE OF CHRIST" WILL LIVE IN YOUR HEART FOREVER. I RECOMMEND IT TO ANYONE!!!

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: A truly memorable and moving spectacle
Review: Few films have the visual spendor and dramatic depth of this epic. Director William Wyler never lets the spectacle overwhelm the drama- you care about the characters. The acting is uniformally excellent. The score by Miklos Rozsa and the cinematography by Robert Surtees are both breathtaking. The chariot race is legend. A classic by any standard. A must see in widescreen.
