Summary: An excellent political drama.
Review: This is a fine film version of Gore Vidal's play about the behind-the-scenes machinations at a presidential nominating convention. Among other things, it provides an interesting look at the good old days when the presidential nominee was NOT already known months before the convention. Fine performances by all, particularly Henry Fonda as the decent, sympathetic front runner (modeled on Adlai Stevenson, probably), Cliff Robertson as his ruthless rival (modeled on both Robert Kennedy and Barry Goldwater, according to author Vidal), and Lee Tracy as a former President whose endorsement both are seeking.
