The Gene Krupa Story

Summary: Great entertainment
Review: I find it difficult to understand why so many critics have slammed this movie. Granted it isn't a 100 percent factual account of Krupa's life, but the acting and musical performances are all first rate. Mineo is utterly convincing as a hungry, young jazz drummer obsessed with following his muse and proving himself to the world. I can easily imagine this film inspiring someone to become a drummer. I doubt the same could be said for the Miller or Goodman biopics which, though good, are doubtful to inspire a run on trombones or clarinets at the local musical store. If you like jazz, you should definitely check this movie out.

Review: I was stationed on a NIKE Army site between Albany and Sylvester Georgia in 1960-1961. I had the priviledge of showing the movies on our base. Due to staggered duty hours for the troops, I ran the Gene Krupa Story 3 times in one evening with the last showing at midnight. It was the only multible showing of any movie but I was more than eager to run the Gene Krupa Story as I was enthralled with the music and great drumming. Being a musician myself, it was a pleasure to offer it to my buddies no matter what time it was! Ben Shackelton

Summary: Uninsipiring, paint-by-numbers TV-esque canard
Review: Sal Mineo is painful to watch as he plays the drums, with his ridiculous "hep cat" expressions and total lack of finesse on the kit. While he's hittting cymbals we hear snare drums and vice versa. Really poor effort. Cliched, tepid love story is the only strand through entire film. Lack of conflict. Does not go into any depth about what it takes to be a musician beyond an ABC afterschool special confrontation with his immigrant father in Act 1. Old movies can be really bad too. Stay away.

Review: Sal Mineo plays legendary jazz drummer,Gene Krupa,in this bio pic. This is an outstanding movie Sal's acting is superb,and his drum playing is breathtaking!Sal Mineo was one of the great actors of modern time,and this film proves it.

Summary: iF YOU LOVE kRUPA
Review: The acting is not great & the story is full of half-truths & the usually hollywood coloring.However if you love Krupa, swing. & drums as I do you will probably get off on this movie. The drums were recorded by Krupa himself so at least that part is true to life. You won't get to know the man but I think the music & talent he possessed will shine through the hollywood glitter.

Summary: Sal mineo at his groovy best!
Review: THis film is loads of fun and is kind of like the rocky film for drummers! Sal mineo gives a wonderful performance here and manages to keep the movie really posistive and uplifting even when his character has hit the skids. People tell me I look like sal mineo and seeing this film I take that as a compliment.(We love you Sal,god bless.)

Review: This is one of my all-tme favorite films of Sal Mineo.The music and acting is first rate. Fine performances by Darren,Kohner and Susan Oliver.This movie is a must for all Mineo fans. Truly one of his best.
