Summary: After All These Years, Animal House Still Rules!
Review: Back in 1978 when this came out I was a Sophomore at college and hadn't even thought about joining a fraternity. After seeing this movie, I sought out the Greeks on Campus and pledged. The house I joined was very much like Animal House except, we were a commuter school. But, the friendships and the loyalty that was portrayed in the movie was the same.I have collected this movie in the various formats. My first version of this movie was purchased back in 1979 (at full price). It was that influential to me. This new edition takes advantage of the new technology to offer better audio and picture quality as well as neat bonus features such as one mockumetary of what happened to all the characters from the movie and new interviews with the cast. While these features are interesting, there was a documentary of the making of the movie that was produced in 1978. I would have liked to see that on this disk. The one thing that really annoys me about this edition is the 5 minutes of trailers that you are forced to watch when you pop the disk in. I can understand being forced to view the Copyright Notice but, commercials? It only allows you to Fast-Forward through them and not skip them. If I wanted to Fast-Forward through trailers, I could have stuck with my VHS versions. I cut my rating by one star because of this. Universal should stick to paper inserts and make the trailers optional.

Review: As the Amazon blurb states, it's lowbrow humor, but sometimes that's just the ticket. Why the low low rating? Because I, too, was made absolutely LIVID by the fascist tactic of being forced to watch a bunch of stupid ads. I came close to ripping the DVD out of the player and smashing it. Bloody stupid move; the same mentality as spamming and telemarketing. Rest assured that I will no longer just buy these lower-priced releases until I see a few reviews and none of them mention this type of vile abuse of the medium.

Summary: More about unstoppable previews
Review: I am going to return this DVD, and any other DVD that I purchase in the future that makes me watch 5 minutes of previews before allowing me to get to a menu EVERYTIME I insert the disk. Further, although I'm not 100% sure, I think there have been changes made to the soundtrack, in that some of the original songs have been removed and replaced with others. More insult. Recommend you STAY AWAY.

Summary: When the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor
Review: An excellent movie that holds up well even after all these years. This is one of those movies that you can watch over and over and never get tired of it-won't collect dust on the shelf. Having said that, the opening 10 minutes of the DVD sucked butt. The previews are highly annoying and you can't skip past them. Studio's need to STOP DOING THIS to the buying public. The extra's are so-so, the mockumentary being the best part of the package besides the movie.

Summary: Don't buy this DVD - mandatory, unskippable ads
Review: I'd give it 0 stars if that was an option. Universal thinks I should watch several "previews" - (translation - advertisements) prior to watching my new DVD (that I paid for). The ads cannot be skipped, cannot be stopped, you can't hit "menu" to get to the main menu. A complete joke, and an insulting slap in the face to everyone who BOUGHT the DVD instead of downloading it. I suggest you avoid this DVD. There is no point buying, it just encourages Universal to make more DVDs with more unskippable ads. The copy I bought will be returned to the place of purchase. If they won't give a refund, perhaps Universal will. If they refuse, maybe they'll see us in small claims court.

Review: In 1978, John Landis directed what is probably one of his best and most hilarious films, "Animal House". The film focuses on fraternity and sorority life in a small college town in the 1960's. The college's dean, Dean Vernon Wormer (John Vernon), is determined to shut down and expel one of the college's fraternities, the Deltas, because of their disruptive and disrespectful behavior; but the Deltas are just out to have a good time. They include John 'Bluto' Blutarsky (John Belushi), Eric 'Otter' Stratton (Tim Matheson), Donald 'Boon' Schoenstein (Peter Riegert), Daniel Simpson 'D-Day' Day (Bruce McGill) and the two fraternity pledges Larry 'Pinto' Kroger (Tom Hulce) and Kent 'Flounder' Dorfman (Stephen Furst). Members of the more respectful fraternities and sororities include Doug Neidermeyer (Mark Metcalf), Mandy Pepperidge (Mary Louise Weller), Barbara 'Babs' Jansen (Martha Smith), Greg Marmalard (James Daughton) and Chip Diller (Kevin Bacon). At the beginning of the film, Larry Kroger and Kent Dorfman are rejected by the "respectable" fraternities, but are accepted into the Deltas. There, they see a very different side to college life than they otherwise would have known: lots of drinking, piles of beer cans & trash, clandestine sorority visits, wild parties and lifestyles uninhibited by society's norms. In other words, they have a blast! Of course, they are looked down upon by Dean Wormer, ROTC captain Neidermeyer, Greek society president Greg Marmaland, and the sorority sisters. Some of the most memorable scenes in the film include the toga party, Bluto's sorority house visit, the Greek society meeting, visits with Dean Wormer's wife Marion (Verna Bloom) and (of course) the homecoming parade. Other memorable characters include Katy (Karen Allen), Prof. Dave Jennings (Tom Sutherland), Mayor Carmine DePasto (Cesare Danova), Otis Day (DeWayne Jessie) and Sissy (Stacy Grooman). After 25 years, "Animal House" is just as entertaining as it was when it was first released in 1978. It has become a classic film that will never be dated. It also became a stunning tribute to John Belushi's (1949-1982) fantastic comedic abilities. Overall, I give "Animal House" an overwhelming 5 out of 5 stars for a great script, superb comedic acting and an engaging story that will keep you laughing throughout the film. Just make sure that you aren't put on double secret probation yourself!

Summary: Face it Kent, You threw up ON Dean Wormer!
Review: This is one of those clasic movies that belongs in everyone's library. I deducted one star because Universal felt that it is necessary for you to have to sit through about ten minutes or so of previews before you can watch the movie. You cannot jump to the main menu! Shame! I also found that the "Where are they now?" extra feature segments are long winded and un funny. The "making of" feature is really good though.

Review: The DVD release of Animal House contains an excellent digital transfer, great sound, and ok special features, but why oh Good GRIEF WHY!? do I have to watch the trailers every time I put it into the DVD player?? The movie is great, its a lot of fun, I got to see boobies and hear the curse words finally after having watched the movie edited to pieces practically every weekend of my teen years on USA or TBS, the humor still holds up and I wish I worked at Faber. HOWEVER, it's decidedly annoying to have to sit through 5 minutes of trailers without any "out." It is nonsense to pay for an item and then have adverts forced upon me. Sad thing is, all the titles advertised I would consider purchasing, but now, on principle, I won't. Universal Home Video, Stop doing this, its off-putting to watch trailers that are "hardwired" into the DVD presentation.

Review: Animal House is a classic that should be part of your collection! This edition features remastered digital video over the DVD collectors
edition, in addition to the sound being modified to 5.1 surround. I had NO problem fast-forwarding through the previews at the
beginning of the disc that others reviews were complaining about as being "locked in." If you own any previous DVD release of this movie this edition is worth the upgrade because of the improved video and sound!

Summary: Classic comedy movie, decent DVD
Review: National Lampoon's Animal House is one of those classic comedy movies that will have you rolling around on the ground laughing. The movie is about the Delta fraternity at fictional Faber College. The Delta House is the worst on campus causing the dean to try and drive them out of the school in whatever way necessary. Meanwhile, oblivious to the trouble they are in, the Delta brothers continue to party including the plegde party, toga party, and several road trips. The best parts of the movie involve the raucous parties, especially with Otis Day and the Knights playing at the toga party or Belushi's druken antics throughout. Either way, this movie is hysterical and should not be missed. John Belushi is great as Bluto Blatarsky, a brother who has been in college for seven years and has a GPA of 0.0. His eyebrows alone could tell a hilarious story. Any scene that he is in is funny whether it be the toga party or when they leave Neidermeyer's horse in the dean's office. Bluto entering the building is great as he goes mission: impossible style. Tim Matheson is also great as Eric "Otter" Stratton, the ladies man who refuses to quit no matter who the lucky lady is. The excellent supporting cast also includes Peter Riegert, Tom Fulce, Stephen Furst, Karen Allen, James Widdoes, Mark Metcalf, Verna Bloom, James Widdoes, Donald Sutherland, Kevin Bacon, and Bruce McGill. The Double Secret Probation Special Edition DVD is decent at best. The widescreen presentation looks fine and the movie is just as good as ever, but the extras are not very good. There is an unfunny documentary where the cast is interviewed as their characters twenty years later and a pointless music video. The only redeeming factor is a good documentary all about the making of the movie. Animal House is a comedy classic with plenty of gross out jokes throughout that will keep you laughing. Belushi is just as funny as ever so go out and watch Animal House!
