Review: I have no idea why this movie was ever popular or why anyone above the age of twelve would find it funny. There was not one genuine laugh in it. The "Where Are They Now" extra was very lame as well. Anybody want to buy my copy?

Review: "Fat, drunk and stupid is no way to go through life, son." After 25 years, ANIMAL HOUSE Double Secret Probation (Universal) arrives in a fresh digital transfer with MTV-like pop-ups that footnote the movie. John Landis' film spoofed frat life and spawned a whole sub-genre of teen gross-out flicks. The crazed genius of John Belushi explodes with his sustained incarnation of Bluto Blutarsky. Crude, irreverent, offensive but still fun. Groove with the Otis Day rendition of "Shout" in a newly minted 5.1 sound mix.

Summary: Double Secret Disappointment
Review: Animal House is and always will be one of my all time favorite films. I couldn't wait to see "Double Secret Probation". I was keenly disappointed! The add ons barely made me smile. Buy this DVD only if you don't own already own Animal House. If you already have it, save your money & skip this one.

Summary: ALL THE IMITATIONS HAVE STILL NOT DUPLICATED THIS CLASSIC
Review: Animal House is all too often lumped in with a multitude of inferior films that it inspired, which is rather unfair. The movie sported the greatest cinematic finale of all-time, each of its scenes have countless moments of comic inspiration and suprise, and it is probably the most quotable and hilarious movie made in the last quarter of the last hundred years. This was Belushi at his best with a bravura performance reminiscent of great comics before him like Chaplin, Marx Brothers, etc., and he did it with aplomb. His character of "Bluto" Blutarsky is often emulated and imitated but often the persons doing so have no idea what it was that made him and his performance so great. Tim Matheson as "Otter" and his other frat house buddies were also prototypes that were much imitated too, and again often without success. Otter was the quintessential smooth talker, always working an angle on everybody, especially the ladies. When a woman tells him that his lovemaking wasn't that great, he cocks his head, points a finger at himself and mouths the words, "not great?" in mock disbelief. Before Tom Hanks got "Big" he made a career out of playing this character. Also John Vernon set a standard for straight men with his portrayal of the beleaguered Dean Wormer, plagued by his "zoo fraternity." Not all of the movie's humor is below the belt (voyeurism) or just above it (beer)...some of it is actually quite suave. The screenwriters and director John Landis did a great job evoking Kennedy-era America and they found a lot to laugh at. An unqualified classic by the simplest definition -- it makes you laugh, long and loud -- this is easily a required addition to your collections. And it holds up its own to repeat viewing.

Summary: Miss this and you should be put on double secret probation!
Review: A small film that became a cult classic, "National Lampoon's Animal House" is a great film that introduced us to many stars. Though already a comedic genius on Saturday Night Live, the late, great John Belushi is at the core of this film with his goofy looks and silent wit. This film made toga parties infamous: no fraternity has been the same ever since. The Delta house screw-ups become heros to millions of college students as they face the sinister Omega house and Dean Wormer.
While raunchy and disgusting, this film is so funny you don't care if it offends you. There is lots of adult language, adult situations, nudity, alcohol/drug use, and some violence: this movie is not for kids under 16.
This DVD edition does justice to the film, with the hilarious mock-umentary, trailers, and cast/crew profiles. A commentary would have been great, but with the behind-the-scenes feature, it doesn't really need to have one.
This is one classic film you must own, lest you be put on double secret probation! This is the sex comedy to end all sex comedies.

Summary: Use the FF-What a GREAT idea!!
Review: All I can say is that this is a GREAT movie and I do not understand the complaints about the previews....Altho it is true that you cannot use the menu key to bypass them(hence the 4 stars), you can however use the FF button like we do and it takes 2 seconds to do....I think that the people complaining about this forgot what it was like to have VHS's where you had no choice but to FF thru them or watch.....Have we become so spoiled with technology that to take a little extra time out of our lives causes us to return a great flick....If so, I feel bad for you all

Summary: Still Stands Strong Today
Review: Since the version that I just watched DOES NOT have any excessive commercials or a Where Are They Now segment, I feel more focused to comment on the movie alone. Sometimes it pays to stick with the original format instead of an upgraded edition. Anyway, many other reviewers are drifting off the deep end by commenting on the commercials excessively. Stick to the meat and potatoes guys. Anyway, this is a cult classic. Pete Riegert, John Belushi, and Tim Matheson give grade A performances. Oh what great oddball scenes ranging from the horse in the Dean's Office to the Toga Party to Otis Day And The Knights. Even though many of the party scenes are somewhat exaggerated, Animal House succeeds at painting an accurate comedic portrait of fraternity life on college campuses in the 1960's. Today it is a little sophomoric for this 40 something year old guy. However, another part of me reminisces about my college days and how fraternities were influenced by this very humorous film. Definitely try this one out one night when you need something to make you feel good and yearn back to your younger days.

Review: I saw it on the second night it was out when I was 16, and it's as funny now as it was then. The bonus material is excellent, especially Dean Wermer hooked up to oxygen by the pool screaming, "Blutarsky!!!"
