Summary: Excellent movie, but the forced adds are what kill it!
Review: First off, I love Animal House. There is no reason for me to even explain the movie. Animal House and the Blues Brothers are the best Landis/Belushi movies of all time. There are some special features such as a "Where are they now" featurette featuring many of the original cast (except Belushi of course). But, even those features and this excellent movie cannot save this DVD from a one-star rating.

As others have stated, not being able to skip the adds at the beginning of the DVD is a poor marketing decision. They did the same with American Wedding, but at least, I can hit stop on my DVD player to stop the DVD, whereas with Animal House, I have to turn off my DVD player. Very poor.

I have already written to Universal Studios about my displeasure with their decision for both Animal House and American Wedding and have informed them that unless they change their tactics, I refuse to purchase another Universal DVD release and that hundreds of other purchasers feel the same, based on reviews at Amazon.com.

Stay away from this if you absolutely feel that not being able to skip the adds is wrong. Otherwise, be prepared to sit through 5+ minutes of commercials for other Universal movies. Your best bet is to go make some popcorn and come back. At that point, it should be done and then you can enjoy this excellent, funny parody of life in a frat house in the late 60s.

Toga! Toga! Toga!

Summary: It's So Funny!
Review: I love this movie! Animal House is a real laugh a minute movie that should have you laughing like crazy and busting a rib from laughing so hard! Yes it's a bummer about the forced ads but at least you can watch Animal House in Anomorphphic widescreen and that's AOK with me!

Summary: Say no to forced ads
Review: At the start of the DVD, the watcher is forced to sit through 5 minutes of ads; as others have mentioned, this is really bothersome. I'd be willing to pay more for this DVD if there was an ad-free version available. The bonus features are so-so...nothing spectacular.

Summary: Waste of a Good Gift!
Review: It's not about the forced ads (although they didn't help) but the movie itself that I finally got to watch early December. I had seen select seens...(the funny ones) on TV multiple time (like the one where Belushi's character is in the cafeteria spitting food out of his mouth "I'm a zit, get it?!" And I thought judging by those scenes and the "you'll like it" coming from my dad that I would enjoy it and went out and bought it @ blockbuster with a gift card I had just recieved. I swear it was the most god awful thing I'd ever seen, and I don't see how anyone could say that it's a classic! I honestly don't see the humor in a bunch of immature frat boys running around looking up girls ass's and causing trouble. It's pointless, stupid, and a waste of a good gift card. (even with the select few chuckle worthy scenes) I was able to sell it, but not for nearly as much as I paid. Good riddens is all I can say!

Summary: Thanks for the warnings on the forced ads
Review: They just lost my money. What a way to ruin a classic.

Summary: Thanks for the heads' up!!!
Review: I have long wanted to add this silly movie to our growing DVD collection of classic and cult films. Thanks to all the reviews posted, I'll know to stay far away from this one. One of the added major advantages to viewing DVD vs. VHS is the (usual) absence of ads and previews. Being FORCED to watch them would cause my husband to blow a gasket. I hadn't noticed the pattern being specific to Universal products in particular, but now that I see it here in print, I think back and I certainly concur.

Summary: 10 Minutes of previews you HAVE TO VEW????
Review: This is an outrage. Don't buy this DVD. I've just tossed all of my Univeral DVD (about 6 - they don't make alot of good stuff thank god).

Sorry, can't review the movie, never got past the forced 10 minutes of previews. Glad this was a gift too.

Summary: The Film That Spawned A Thousand Imitators
Review: After finally seeing "Animal House" in its entirety for the first time, I now realize the cultural impact it's had in the 25+ years since its theatrical release. Many, many films, from"Revenge Of The Nerds" to "Old School", have followed the "Animal House" formula, with varying results. Usually, the film that does it first, does it best, and I think that's the case with "Animal House".

It's difficult not to appreciate the performance of John Belushi,
in his first major role. As "Bluto" Blutarski, he is charismatic even while crushing beer cans on his forehead. By now, had he lived, Belushi would probably have graduated into more dramatic roles, like his "Saturday Night Live" counterpart, Bill Murray. Of all the new actors that "Animal House" introduced, only Kevin Bacon continues to appear regularly in films. Karen Allen went on to co-star in the acclaimed films "Raiders Of The Lost Ark" and "Starman", but has since seemingly dropped off the radar.

Director John Landis uses a lot of sight and sound gags to elicit laughs(I lost count of how many times I heard glass breaking), and he went on to use many of those same tricks in "Trading Places", one of my favorite all-time comedies. It's too bad that neither the DVD of that film nor "Animal House" have the original theatrical trailer available. It's also annoying that Universal sticks multiple commercials for other films at the beginning of the DVD. Still, "Animal House" remains an enjoyable film that will, no doubt, continue to be a source from which other college-based movies will copy.

Summary: For the adolescent in all of us.
Review: This movie is pretty funny. I think the only real flaw in this DVD are all those stinkin adds spamming up the place but after youre through watching those you get to see the one and only Animal House! Yes I think its mean spitited humor to see someone bully the weak but everything else in this movie is super keen funny.John Belushi was awesome. He is dearly missed. Its pretty awesome.

Summary: You Don't Have to be a Drunken Boor To Like This Movie!
Review: Hey, not everyone who likes this movie and finds it funny is an uncivilized drunken boor! I'm not a drinker and in the real world I frown on people who think it's cool to get so drunk where they act like freaks but I do admit with absloutely no shame whatsoever that I think this movie is funny, You have to laugh at how stupid these guys are and there are so many hilarious scenes in this movie especially with John Belushi who was a comedic genius! The only complaint I have is with the DVD and the forced commercials but at least it's only for a short time and I will hold onto this DVD until a better one comes along!

I know I will get a lot of unhelpful votes for my opinion about this movie and the DVD but I really don't care. It's not like I am going to cry my eyes out for getting unhelpful votes!
