Review: I have no qualms with the movie. My problem is with the DVD. No book or anything on the inside. What is up with that? It just takes a DVD that I purposefully waited for a special edition and makes it a little less special.

Review: Is anyone else having problems with skipping on the DVD Edition? I have a player that has performed flawlessly, except for the two DVD's I purchased yesterday, Animal House and Vacation. Both skipped. I have not tried a second player yet.

Summary: The Original Wild College/Teen Movie!
Review: This was the grandfather of all movies of this genre to come after it! Although 25+ years ago this movie still has a knack to remain a fav of the new generations of college frat guys and sorority chicks! From Belushi's crazy character "Ox" to "Otis Day & The Knights" at the all Black club they all walk into, truly hilarious!

Summary: A classic, let's talk about the extras
Review: Do I have to tell you about the movie? One of AFI's best comedies of all time. It's crude, rude, and outrageously funny. It launched the careers of many of today's good actors. It was the first of many vehicles from National Lampoon. It brought many catch phrases to the lexicon of America. What I will tell you about is the extras. First is a new music video of "Shout" by the group MxPx. It adds nothing new to the "Animal House" world. If you want to hear a good version, skip to the chapter in the movie where Otis Day and The Knights do "Shout". Second, the "Did You Know That?" feature, which is a "Pop-Up" feature, you can switch off and on during the movie with facts about the original production of the film. Such as Meatloaf was considered to play the part of Bluto Blutarsky if John Belushi turned it down. While the facts are items for the most part I didn't know, they don't come fast enough during the movie. I'm one of those who want those facts to appear every five seconds, not every one to three minutes. "Where Are They Now?" a documentary which lasts for approximately 18 minutes puts members of the cast into what they are doing now via the final moments of the film, which stated what the characters were doing. It's fun, not groundbreaking, but interesting to see the cast today. "The Yearbook: An Animal House Reunion" brings together those behind the scenes, Matty Simmons, Harold Ramis and others; and the cast with info on how the movie was made. Approximately 45 minutes, it's informative, if you're a fan of the movie; but may be a bit too long, if you're a casual observer. The picture quality and the sound are outstanding, considering it's a 25 year old movie, but this package would have been a five star package if the movie had a commentary track by director John Landis or others. It has none. Five stars for the movie and transfer. Four stars for the extras and if you're buying the full screen instead of the letterbox. Since Amazon won't allow ½ stars, I'll give it 4.

Summary: A great film cheaply packaged...
Review: Time to empty those pockets and make some room on your video shelves 'cause Universal is releasing ANOTHER Animal House DVD. In 1998 there was the "Widescreen Collector's Edition" and now we have the budget-priced "Double Secret Probation Edition". The difference? The two previous editions of the film were marred by a weak picture transfer. Now we get a disc that boasts being "digitally remastered with better-than-original picture quality". The viewer may now gain a superior print of the film but loses the handsome packaging of the '98 edition. Gone is the previous discs theatrical trailer, 4 page souvenir booklet and original movie poster artwork. Apparently the 2003 editions gaudy packaging (or lack of) will allow the customer to own this DVD for under [money maount]. Perhaps the next time Universal reissues this film we'll get a full length audio commenatry!

Summary: GREAT MOVIE ...but
Review: I loved everything on this DVD, it was a good transfer of it, plus its one of my favorite movies of all time, and the special features were fun....however. I am having a SERIOUS problem with DVDs having unstoppable, unskipable previews in the beginning of them. YES it is nice to know that Scarface is going to come out on DVD soon, but do I HAVE TO WATCH THAT EVERY SINGLE TIME I PUT IN MY MOVIE????? If it really were a collectors edition, it would just be the movie and NOTHING else but the movie. There is only one FIX for this is to push fastforward up to 16x. Luckily I found that out, because don't even think of pushing the MENU key, or SKIP key because they won't work. Its sad they have to mar our films like this. I would still recommend this Title though, because its just so funny and the movie itself is so great. No use waiting til they have one without any stupid previews in the beginning, cuz it won't happen.

Summary: You were taking great care of your brother's car...
Review: By some strange, perfect alignment of the stars, The Official Preppie Handbook and Animal House were birthed during my years at Southern Methodist University in Dallas. SMU was ranked the #8 drinking school in the OPH, and I see it is in the top ten this year for Princeton Review's "Fraternity/Sorority Action". We had our equivalents of the Omegas and the Deltas. After the movie was released, more frats aspired to be Deltas! I remember once incident where some frat brothers went to the movie, one of them in a wheelchair so he could sneak in a case of beer under the blanket. The character of Neidermeyer is instantly recognized by all Texans as a prototype of the Texas Aggie Corps Cadet (C.T. - Corps Turd). When SMU's cheerleaders were rushed at an A&M game by a sword-wielding cadet, we instantly called him "Neidermeyer!" the same way the Flounder character did. Believe it or not, some of the movie antics are not so far-fetched! Instant classic! I was once in a chat room where we quoted the damn thing for hours. The 70s had Closeau/Pink Panther movies, Mel Brooks classics and Airplane!....comedies have gone down the 'tube' ever since.

Summary: Don't buy this version!
Review: Animal House it a very funny movie but this edition is terrible. First you must sit through about 6 minutes of previews that you can't skip. Second, the audio of the movie is bad. Somehow the mix makes it sound hollow and dull, it just does not match the quality of the video.

Summary: My home town movie
Review: This is defenitly a college classic, still popular today. Even though I'm only in my 20's this movie still is hillarious to my generation. The parade scene and a few others were fillmed right in the downtown area of the town I grew up in, Cottage Grove, OR. This is comming out just in time for the 25th anniversary, and the worlds largest toga party, to be held in Cottage Grove the last weekend in August. A must for any college student who enjoys a good party!
