Summary: A movie never to be forgotten
Review: This movie is absolutely wonderful! I have found it to be very emotional and extremely well done. James Dean is an instant favorite. Even though he did a very few films, he is still considered an idol. I fell in love with this movie from the first time I saw it. The book is not nearly as good. It doesn't show the emotions as well. The movie is actually only a very small part of the book. It is missing characters and does not expand as much on some of them. The movie was done to fucous on the character that James Dean portrays. I will always enjoy this movie, it is a true classic.

Summary: Human drama at its best
Review: This story of a son seeking the approval of his father is unmatched as Dean gives the most outstanding performance of his too short career. His first movie turned out to be his best. Long live the king!!!!

Summary: James Dean...
Review: Unbelieveable film. And very hard to find, although I hear it will soon be released on DVD thankfully. James' portrayal of a son hungering for his father's affection is amazing and uncanny. Anyone who has had broblems with their father should see this movie. Anyone who is a fan of James Dean Should see this movie. Heck, everyone should see this movie, because its just soo great.

Summary: "The Madness of THE METHOD".
Review: With the seamless Dean Biography currently on TV it's inevitable that one must revisit this cornerstone of American Cinemadom! Fortunately two key scenes are reprised in the biography and both are appropriately chosen. It's that devastating "Kiss" on the ferriswheel between Dean and Harris, and the monumental rejection scene between Dean and Massey [of the old, but also effective acting school].

Not the complete Steinbeck version, it does stand on its own - a painful story of early 20th century family disfunction. Decades earlier the "arrival" of Olivier on stage was likened to a motorcycle in full throttle, James Dean is more of a supernova in full destruct mode. His "method" drew accurately from his own painful past, evident in this work and expertly woven by another great - Elia Kazan, who continued this journey with "Splendor in the Grass".

It's a perfect ensemble - Jo Van Fleet [Oscar to her for Kate, the mother], Julie Harris as lovestruck Abra, Richard Davalos - the good brother.

Snuck in and saw this one as a kid - introduction to James Dean - the love affair will never end!
