Summary: Flower Power fans unite!
Review: This is Roger Corman's FLOWER POWER epic. It has something for everyone:Jonathan (Purple)Haze plays Seymour K (like Kafka's great Post-Modern hero)who falls into the existential trap of your basic Vampire Plant. Jackie Joseph (an Audrey Hephburn "ringer")essays "Helen of Skid Row" role as Audrey Fulquard. Mel Wells brings depth to underrated Dostoyevskian role of Little Shop of Horror's proprietor, Gravis Mushnik. Much has been said about how this Corman classic influenced directors like Coppola and Scorsese. But its budgetary excess(2 days and a night, to knock-off a typical, blood-devouring daffodil drama)probably offended artistic propriety. Remember: it took Francis Ford C. 10 years to complete APOCALYPSE NOW!...Technically, art direction and production values of this proto-work have to be studied to be appreciated. The sequence where hapless Seymour K is pursued by police agents Fink and Stoolie through a junk yard full of tires and toilets belies unnecessary interpretation other than to observe the angst on Seymour's face when he pops-up through a broken commode. Finally, there's the celebrated role of Jack Nicholson who would come to fame in the Hippie saga, "Easy Rider". If you're a fan of DENTAL QUEST(who isn't?), LITTLE SHOP of HORRORS deserves its mythological repute on this segment alone.Fans of Gravis, Seymour K, Audrey I & II, unite to restore this archetypal film to the peerless status it deserves......

Summary: Somewhere thats green......
Review: This movie has everything most movies should have but don't. Geeky heroes with a passion for zinnias, creepy sadistic dentists, enormous city-eating plants, a Greek chorus of do-wop girls and a busty blonde with a lisp and a Marylin delivery. What more do you want in a comedy? Starting out as an equally wonderful stage musical, this movie is worth watching just for the unforgettable performances of Steve Martin and Bill Murray ALONE. Martin, as the aforementioned sadistic dentist, has a short scene with cameo-appearing Murray who is a masochistic patient eager to strap on the gas mask. But I get ahead of myself. If the scene above sounds funny to you, the rest of the movie will leave you in stitches. The musical numbers remain largely intact, with the lamentable cut of "Mushnik and Son" (a mercenary duet between the money-hungry Mr. Mushnik and the family-hungry geek, Seymour), and the even more lamentable ommission of "The Meek Shall Inherit" which robbed Steve Martin of a chance to play in a few more roles! Rick Moranis, who later played other lovable geeks in "Honey, I Shrunk the Kids" and "My Blue Heaven" (alongside Steve Martin again!), is a flawless and perfect Seymour. Nuff said. Ellen Greene thankfully reprised her stage role as Audrey-- and she is possibly the only person to ever infuse Audrey with the perfect mix of innocence and ridiculousness. Cameo roles are abundant, and all are perfect. Especially watch for John Candy, who has one of the funniest bits written specifically for the movie. Disliked the ending a little bit-- but understood why they had to do it. 4 stars for almost being the best cult-movie-musical out there!!

Summary: Dentist is evil... but makes me laugh!
Review: This movie's great! I'm doing my drama exam this week at school and we are doing a scene from The Little Shop of Horrors. I'm in a group of girls (i'm a girl as well) but most of them are very stubborn and won't play the male part. So i said i'd do it coz i love anything to do with drama. I got to play Orin, the sadistic dentist and i really enjoyed it playing that part. Itz fun playing evil characters and i'm glad my friends didn't want to do it. Even though he's a baddie, he really makes me laugh, especially in that song, Dentist (as well as the scene with Bill Murray). I find it weird that i liked that song coz i despise going 2 the dentist. I haven't seen the whole movie but from what i've seen, it's brill! It's about this nerdy but sweet florist called Seymour (ahhh) who fancies his co-worker Audrey (a girl with a strange but sweet wispy voice) who's dating that crazy dentist who is abusive towards her and treats her badly. Seymour reckons that the only way to make her fall in love with him is because of this amazing plant he gets (who he calls Audrey Two). BUT this plant doesn't feed on water, it feeds on human blood. Audrey Two begins growing, talking and begs for more than just Seymour cutting himself. He bumps off Orin (yeah that was my scene, i had to act completely insane) and his boss. It's a brilliant movie and i'm getting the DVD of it this summer, i can't wait! The acting in it is great (round of applause for Steve Martin especially) and I hope a lot of people will like it, watch it, you won't regret it!
(Personally, i don't mind that the original ending didn't go very well at the start coz i think it would be sad to see such a happy movie go so wrong at the end. I'd like to have seen it though).
My favourite songs from the movie are Downtown, Dentist and Suddenly Seymour.
Oh please hope i do well in my exam! Later: I'm just editing my review, I got my DVD in July. It was brilliant. Little Shop of Horrors is my favourite film of all time, I love it! The special features were great (shame they took away original ending, I heard they might be putting it back, in colour!), the outtakes were hysterically funny and Behind the Scenes was great (although I would have like to have seen Steve Martin interviewed). My drama exam was fine! My teacher thought it was very funny. I was hoping we'd do it for our school play, but we're not :( I would audition for Orin Scrivello D.D.S definitely even though i'm a girl, I can do the voice! But readers, you have to buy this film coz even though I only found about it back in May when my teacher chose it for our topic, itz the best I've ever seen! Go ahead! Buy it and you will never ever regret it!
You know something, I was at the dentist the other day getting a 'long slow root canal' done! Honestly, ow itz so painful! Thank God my dentist was normal!

Summary: A good musical
Review: This version of "Little Shop of Horrors" is a musical that is set in the 1950s. It stars Rick Moranis as Seymour, Steve Martin as the crazy dentist, Bill Murray as the pain-loving patient (he was hilarious in this film!), and several other stars, plus a 3 black female group who sings doo-wop songs in the background. Also stars Levi Stubbs as the voice of the talking man-eating plant in the movie.
I was surprised that Rick Moranis sang really well in this movie! Ellen Green's character, who's the love interest of Seymour and dated the crazy dentist, has a very annoying voice....almost too squeaky. I can understand why people said her voice drove them up the wall! LOL My favorite scene was with the crazy dentist named Orin (Steve Martin) and the pain-loving patient (Bill Murray)...when Bill looks like he really enjoyed the experience and his facial expressions in the dental chair made me laugh. I also like the scene where Bill was telling this young patient that just had a contraption stuck on his face around the mouth area that he is "very very lucky" and this poor kid's in pain.
I have a couple of favorite tunes in this movie too. It's good to watch for a rainy day, if you are really interested in musicals and humor mixed together. The reason I gave it 4 stars is because of Ellen Green's character, although she did well, her voice kind of ruin the scenes because it was so squeaky.

Review: This version of Little Shop of Horrors, is a rare case of a remake surpassing the original. I have two words in mind "Total Entertainment"; in that it is a comedy,drama,romance and musical all in one. It can entertain different generations at one time. I've watched it over and over, best money spent for a pick me up!

Review: Wonderful dark comedy from Roger Corman. Hapless young man discovers a man-eating plant. Just as good as Corman's other horror comedy, A Bucket of Blood. This dvd release is quite nice and well worth the price.
