Summary: The High and The Mighty
Review: I have the 45 rpm record of the theme from The High and The Mighty. His son said he would release this film upon the death of his father, John Wayne; however, he has failed to do so. This is one the Duke's best especially the last scene as he is walking under the wing of the aircraft and says he flew it on fumes. I wish we could get even the VHS; it is very sad that this treasure has been suppressed.

Summary: The Frist Airport Movie (1954)
Review: I first saw this movie in 1954 as a high school student and movie buff. I later classified the High and the Mighty as the first in the series of airport movies ( the only one with props instead of jets) because each passenger and crew member had a story to tell and live out. The music was wonderful as was the story line and acting. You will enjoy this film and don't be surprised if you become a whistler. This is the only movie that I have not been able to acquire for my collect. Sure will be glad when it is released.

Summary: Waiting Half My Life
Review: I pray that this movie will be released soon, I have been waiting so long. It peaked my interest in flying a long time ago. That haunting scene of John Wayne looking over his plane and that beautiful theme song... I hope the wait will be over soon!

Summary: 5 Stars for this beautifully done, memorable classic
Review: From other reviews posted here, the most frequent comment is the unforgettable character of this great movie. With so many really awful 50's movies on DVD, and so many truly rotten, special-effects disasters in print today, it's shocking and amazing that this riveting work is still in the hangar. This was the granddaddy of 'em all. Yes, it's corny, somewhat dated in style, but it's soap opera raised to cinematic art. It's a masterpiece of unique and beautiful cinematic touches (Laraine Day is a knockout. And, man, that mesmerizing soundtrack!). Wellman outdid himself visually and technically -- you really do feel that you're in that airplane (it does NOT look or feel like a set!). Pacing, acting, tension, it's beautifully done. I saw this in '54 so many times I got sick eating popcorn. That haunting yellow-lit ending sticks in your brain forever and brings a big grin to your face (at one showing, the audience stood and cheered). Viewers, get your name on Amazon's list for news of THATM's release. It's sad that younger viewers won't see this on a 70-foot silver screen, but a good DVD would be the next best thing (i have a really bad VHS copy). Those who haven't seen it but who slept thru sloppy imitations like "Airport" will be impressed by a suspense film that didn't need computer effects or preposterous melodramatic tricks to make box office magic. The expertly understated ending in the last seconds is a one of the great, classic gotcha's of film history. While I don't agree that this is Wayne's "greatest", he builds a character that even his detractors won't forget. Demand it, get it, enjoy it.
