Review: This movie has an intersting story line, but its soooo boring. I wouldn't recommend BUYING it, unless you are a Saratoga Buff... it was filmed there and the houses are beautiful!

Summary: Where did those goose bumps come from?
Review: With all the spooky movies and monster movies and even the grind up movies like Fargo (1996) ASIN: 0792842081, you would think you would be desensitized to this sort of thing?With older movies like The Deadly Mantis (1957) ASIN: 6302763916 you would see a few soap bubbles and you know that the native will so be munchies. But this one is down right creepy. And talk about tension, this movie builds and builds but you have no idea what it is building until it is too late. The first clue that this is going to be a good movie is the cast list, which includes, but is not limited to, Fred Astaire, Melvyn Douglas, Douglas Fairbanks Jr., John Houseman, and Patricia Neal [The Fountainhead (1949) ASIN: 6301969294]. And where did they find the sexy and exciting Alice Krige (also of Star Trek "Borg Queen" fame)? She could attack me anytime. Guess I should mention that the plot line was good also.

Summary: Worth owning, but a bit disappointing
Review: Straub's novel is most excellent. If you haven't already read it, buy a copy (available from Amazon). The movie adaptation wasn't great, but if you know the real story from the novel, it will creep you out. My disappointment was in the DVD quality which was advertised as "widescreen edition". It wasn't true widescreen, but "VHS widescreen" where it's in the standard television aspect format and black out the top and bottom to make it fit. This DVD is still worth owning at the price that's comprable to the VHS version, but I hope they remaster it in a true DVD widescreen version in the future. I'd be willing to pay the going price for a DVD-quality version.

Review: I HAD RENTED THIS VIDEO YEARS AGO. MY SISTER AND I HAD WATCHED IT WITH ALL THE LIGHTS OFF. THIS IS TRULY ONE OF THE SCARIEST MOVIES WE HAVE SEEN. I'M GLAD THAT I CAN NOW OWN A COPY AND I AM BUYING IT. IT IS TRULY A CLASSIC.

Summary: GREAT MOVIE BUT ...
Review: THIS IS A GREAT MOVIE. For many reasons i like this movie but i will keep my review short. If you like no nonsense scary movies this is it. No teenagers screaming . No killer dying 16 times and coming back to life. The CHANGELING is the scariest movie of all time and this has its moments but the sound quality and picture quality on the dvd i was very disapointed with. The sound on your tv needs to be turned up while this dvd is in play but i quess its such and old film not much could be done with that. Oh well a great film that should be seen at least once. take care mike

Summary: Before special effects, there was horror
Review: Ghost story is a movie that needs to be seen in a dark room. With just the tv on, no lights, no noise. Preferably on DVD to hear the soundtrack. It is a lost genre among todays "Slasher" trash. Four men, who all tell stories...But have a dark past. The way that Krige gets revenge is pure evil. And I defy you not to jump if a knock should come at the door. Forget fake blood and computers. Let your MIND work it's own effects on you. Good luck sleeping!

Summary: ALMOST SCARES YOU
Review: Ghost Story wants to scare you but it just misses right to the end. Krige is excellant I must admit as the ghost. The story line is very good and the book must have been very good but the way the script was put together for the movie was awful. The movie never really scares you except for the scene at the end when Krige (The Ghost) goes down in the shivery water trapped in a car. An average horror movie at best.

Summary: one incredible woman
Review: While I thought Ghost Story was a very good movie, I must say that the performance by young South African beauty Alice Krige was absolutely incredible. This is one of the best performances I have ever seen from any actress. Krige plays the duel roles of Eva Galli and Alma Mobley in the film who are actually the same person. She does an outstanding job of portraying a character who will stop at nothing,including using sex as a weapon,to gain her revenge. I feel it is a shame that Krige has not gotten more recognition for her work in this film. Also I feel that she is one of the most beautiful,most sexiest women I have ever seen. Every male character,at one point in the film, falls in love with her. Given her incredible beauty I sure none of the male actors had pretend at all. In closing,this is an outstanding tale of revenge,sex,and seduction,but the main reason it is a must see is because of one incredible woman,Alice Krige. a s g
