Summary: Almost as good as the musical!
Review: Lon Chaney is so good at potraying a character, even though the movie is silent. Very little love is lost for poor Erik in this version. It is probably the best movie. I love the masquerade scene. I just wish the ending were different- that's not how my beloved Erik really died. Oh well. Such is Hollywood. If you like our Opera Ghost, you'll love Chaney's presentation of him.

Review: This is the best movie version out there. (And to the person who didn't like the musical, don't you know that books then to be shuffled around a bit in transition from place to place. The musical was sure as hell alot better than many of the movies). THis and the musical are the only two that I've seen that have remained loyal to the book in someway.

Review: Who was the complete idiot who decided to make this fine classic into farce onstage broadway show. Lon Chany should come out of his grave and phantom the idiot. I'm sure Burt Lancaster's version is greater than broadway crap too.

Review: This is the first and only silent movie I've watched, But I loved it! the acting was terrific and, unlike the Claude Rains version, I felt real sympathy for Erik. I'm almost positive that if Gaston Leroux could see this movie, he would agree it was the finest Phantom of the Opera movie ever!

Review: Of all the movie versions, the Lon Chaney version is the most memorable. Lon Chaney does a performance that is beyond words. In all the other versions (Claude Rains, and Herbert Lom) the story is scrambled and changed. This one is the REAL story.

Review: What I think is perhaps Chaney's best movie! Beginning with new managers buying the opera house, the Phantom begins a series of killings. The best, when the chandelier crashes on the audience! The Phantom falls in love with a young singer at captures her. There, one of the most memorable moments in film history takes place. The girl's true lover, Rauol and a policeman come to her rescue. A mob of angry men comes and chases the Phantom to his doom... A ''must see''!!

Summary: A cinematic achievment of early Hollywood
Review: The 1925 version of Phantom of the Opera starring Lon Chaney Sr. and Mary Philbin. I have seen every version of this timeless classic and this film is by far the best. It made in a very dark almost gothic style with Lon Chaney's make-up taking center stage along with his masterful use of movement bringing his character, Erik come to life. While on the other hand Mary Philbin's performance is horribly melodramatic and generally overacted. But, Chaney's performace is really quite good and that is the real reason to watch this film. Also try "Hunchback of Notre Dame" and if you can find it "London after Midnight". END

Review: Lon Chaney Sr., the "Man of a Thousand Faces" portrays the role of Erik, the tormented, deformed composer of Gaston Leroux's novel "Le Fantome de L'Opera." This, the first in a long series of movie and theatrical versions of the novel, is by far the best. This movie is remarkably accurate in it's adaptation of Leroux's plotline. The set and special effects are amazing, especially when you realize that this movie was made in 1925. This is a "must see" for every fan of the Phantom of the Opera END
