Summary: Great, Greater, Greatest!
Review: Although I still consider "Brides of Dracula" with the legendary Martita Hunt and the great David Peele the best of all vampire movies, "Horror of Dracula" comes pretty close. The fantastic musical score, the lighting, acting, etc. are given the usual classical touch by Hammer studios. The gorgeous saturated hues of Technicolor are utilized to their fullest. My two main objections: the castle of Dracula, although great and spooky on the outside, is much too neat and pristine on the inside. It looks like it was just set up by the tech crew and freshly painted. Also, Christopher Lee still lacks that terrifying quality of the demented looking Bela Lugosi. Lee makes me think of a strikingly handsome British actor in make-up. But still, he gives his role passion and genius. I wish Carol Marsh, the young woman who turns into a vampire, was given more time. She was thrilling, especially when she says: "Let's go for a little walk!" in a hollow, deadly voice. "Brides of Dracula" was much more ambitious and terrifying because several actresses were given terrific parts as the undead. The Technicolor was even more gorgeous.

Summary: A document in the making of a great horror film
Review: I must have watched this one 20 times, and it amazes me that I never tire of seeing it. It's a shame that many modern audiences (and filmmakers) don't have the patience to enjoy a classic like Horror of Dracula. I can't think of a single thing I would change about it. Bernard Hermann's score is the best, and his Dracula theme would be used over & over in the sequels. If you have never experienced Hammer's greatest movie--and, no doubt, one of the finest horror films ever created--watch it!

Summary: excellent timeless shocker
Review: this is the best dracula film of all time. The direction, lighting, pacing and clever use of startling material make this a truly scary schoker. It is far more effective than friday the 13th, scream, i know what you did last summer, because it tkaes itself seriously and ususe outstanding suspence and intelligent shocks that are pertinent. I think anyone who appreciates this sort of thing will truly like horror of dracula and some may find it scarier than psycho because of the fats pacing and incredible terrot that it presented.

Summary: The best Vampire Film ever
Review: The best Vampire Film is undoubtly Hammer's Horror of Dracula. The cast, directing, photography, the script are all superb. Christopher Lee makes his best performance as Dracula, and he IS Count Dracula to my generation. No-one, not even Lugosi could do such a terrifying performance. Peter Cushings Van Helsing is calm and kind - a perfect foe for Dracula. And don't forget the Draculas deathscene - it scared the ###t out of me when I saw it as a kid !

Review: Ah, Mr. Lee. Each one of us is born with something that only we can bring to the table, that no one else can do quite our way; for Mr. Lee, it is his ability to involve us in feeling for his Dracula. The suspense mounts, and you salivate watching Christopher Lee. The storyline unfolds and, of course, you salivate much more. Watching Christopher Lee is an exercise in salivation. I consider it an honor to view all his films. It would be interesting to attend night school regarding the Grand Master of--although Mr. Lee disdains the word--"Horror". I stand first in line of those ready to attend.

Review: Far and away the best cinematic treatment of a classic horror story. Direction, acting, writing, photography, musical score; all the proper elements come together to make this production a timeless masterpiece, as magically effective today as it was during its original 1958 release. Peter Cushing offers a riveting performance as the crusading scientist Van Helsing, while Christopher Lee combines vestiges of humanity with a profoundly alien nature to create a terrifyingly believable monster. Not just for fans of the genre, this film will appeal to anyone enjoying great moviemaking.

CUSHING AS THE TIRELESS VAN HELSING A KIND MAN ,A PERSON YOU CAN TRUST IN BUT MORE IMPORTANT HE KNOWS THE WAY OF THE VAMPIRE AND KNOWS IT MUST BE WIPED OUT. LEE AS THE COUNT IS BRILLIANT THE POWER WHICH COMES ACROSS IN THE CHARACTER HE IS PLAYING AND ALL SO THE LOOK IS ALL THERE TO SEE. IF YOU DONT OWN A COPY THEN BUY IT YOU WON'T BE WASTING YOUR MONEY.

Review: Lee has never been better! Truly one of the very best that Hammer has ever put out. Peter Cushing was always the perfect foil, for the dreaded Prince of Darkness. If your a fan of either of these fine actors, don't miss this one!!!

Summary: The Best Vampire Film EVER!!
Review: Like Mike Wheldon says in "The Psychotronic Encyclopedia of Film," HORROR OF DRACULA (1958) is "the best vampire film ever." Even after 40 years the picture is still an effective, exciting adaptation of the Stoker novel--in my opinion, the one movie that truly captures the spirit of the book. Christopher Lee is a worthy successor to Bela Lugosi in the title role, and the great Peter Cushing makes the role of vampire hunting Dr. Van Helsing his own--intelligent, intrepid, kindly, yet not above cooly staking the undead when the situation calls for it. The part of Van Helsing has since been played by more famous actors like Olivier and Anthony Hopkins, but even these fine performers can't hold a candle to Cushing. HoD is the first and best of England's Hammer Films' Dracula series and required viewing for all vampire movie buffs. And I agree with another reviewer in recommending BRIDES OF DRACULA (1960), the second greatest Hammer Horror of them all!

Review: This is simply the greatest Dracula film of all time. Christopher Lee is outstanding as Dracula. He delivers one of the best performances of his career in this film. Peter Cushing plays his adversary, Dr. Van Helsing and is the perfect antagonist to Dracula. If you enjoy this film, I would also suggest Dracula Prince of Darkness, and the Brides of Dracula.
