Summary: Finally An Affair To Remember is on DVD
Review: In April of this year I bought this DVD. I love it so much. I remember when I was little and saw it . It brought tears to my eyes. I especially love the special features that are on this DVD. I have always loved The Extremely hansome an Debonair Cary Grant. He is a role model of what Male Actors Should Be. Cary Grant, and Deborah Kerr meet on a Ocean Cruise well they meet and they fall in love. But one problem They are both already engaged to different people. Well as the Ocean Voyage goes on they get more and more romantic. Well when they get off the boat they make an agreement that 6 Months from that day they would meet at the top of the Empire State Building to see if they still love each other. Well that day comes and Cary Grant is on the top floor. But as Deborah Kerr is running to the Empire State Building she gets ran into by a car and is paralyzed. But at the end Cary Grant finds her and they Kiss and Get Married. Great Movie. The way that all movies are supposed to be.

Summary: They don't make 'em like they used to!
Review: The times may be different, but this movie is just as remarkable as ever. An Affair to Remember is definitely a classic. I could never resist a Cary Grant movie anyway, but this one is especially good. The shipboard romance is not only sweet, but humorous. (I always laugh out loud as they try, in vain, to avoid being seen together.) Then, as Nicky and Terry disembark for the real world, with a promise to meet up if everything goes well, you root for them. And, as the the proper time comes, you can't felt but sit there anxiously and wonder if they'll both make it, no matter how many times you've seen the movie! An absolute classic in the rarest form, this is one movie of which Hollywood can be proud. Palpable chemistry, bittersweet obstacles, and the obligatory tears make this a perfect cimena masterpiece.

Summary: Classic Romance That Never Gets Old
Review: I saw this movie after I saw Sleepless In Seattle because through the whole movie I was like what is so sad? So i borrowed it from a friend. I cried but then I laughed too! Its a wonderful movie that never gets old & is still classic if you watch it time & time agian.

Summary: A Great Story, but not the best of the classics
Review: I give this movie 5 stars for the story (it is wonderful) but I had to deduct 1 star because the movie is just a little bit on the dull side. Most of the scenes just involve the 2 lead characters talking to each other... not much action or comedy. This made the movie drag a bit. However, the story line is very romantic although it didn't seem entirely realistic that they both fell so madly in love with each other. Cary Grant and Deborah Kerr just don't seem like a couple (at least in this movie). Also, I think this movie is not just for the (slightly) older generation. I am a 22-year-old college student and really liked it... so don't be afraid to buy it just because it's a classic. The movie is in color and the DVD did have some unique extra features... for example the trailer is there... pretty funny how different trailers are today than they were back then.

Summary: McCarey's gamble pays off
Review: Here again is another of these new Special Editions that are a joy to watch knowing what you know from the background documentary (Kerr talking about the affairs both she and Grant were having during the filming, etc.) Yes, this film is sappy, down right saccharine! But even the biggest linebacker would get misty at the end when Nickie embraces Terry and they finally get together ("... I was looking up (sob)... you were the closest thing to heaven (sob)...etc). Yeah, it's a chick-flick, but being a man who loves movies, I do like this film. There is great light comedy along with the pathos. McCarey put up his house and everything hoping this film would be a success. He was right to do so. Not every gamble in Hollywood pays off as well as this one does.

Summary: McCAREY'S MASTERFUL MELODRAMA
Review: Director, Leo McCarey's remake of his own "Love Affair" is a masterful attempt to update a classic for the post war generation. Yet, regardless of whether you see the original or its remake, this "An Affair To Remember", the net result of your cinematic experience is ultimately slated to turn out the same - bring Kleenex!
Cary Grant is Nicky Ferranti, a big time 'dame' hunter who is all set to marry an heiress when he falls, but hard, for Terry McKay (Deborah Kerr), the park avenue play-thing of a wealthy New York financier. As in the original, McKay and Ferranti discover that love may not be enough to keep their dreams alive, particularly after one of them suffers a tragic accident that alters the course for both their futures.
This is the sort of grand romantic melodramatic canvas on which such broad, yet stirring, brush strokes have been painted, that one can not help but become emotionally involved. Yes, there are several musical numbers (a shame since they're neither visually appealing, nor do they advance the story) and yes, the material is heavily dated. But there must be something to this movie - still a tear jerker forty-five years later.
When Fox Home Video first issued this movie on DVD it was widescreen but not enhanced for 16X9 televisions. There was a considerable amount of film and digital grit and colors, though dated throughout, seemed excessively garish. There was also some slight edge enhancement and aliasing detected.
I am happy to say that most of these anomolies have been corrected, providing us with a much smoother looking, color consistant transfer that is a marked improvement over the previous DVD. This one is also anamorphic.
While fine film grain and dirt and scratches in the original print are still present, this time around, they are not obtrusive to the eye.
The soundtrack on this disc is virtually identical to the previously released DVD. At times it has a nice spread. But this is the very same, dumbed down, Dolby Surround mix that was imported from Fox's original laserdisc, instead of being rematrixed to a 5.1 track. All Cinemascope movies were recorded in six track stereo so a revamped soundtrack for this movie should have been considered.
Extras: an all too short documentary on the making of this movie that spends much of its time dishing dirt on Cary Grant, his medicinal use of LSD and thwarted affair with Sophia Loren. Honestly, did I really need another American icon humiliated in this way? There are also some stills and a theatrical trailer. Overall, the extras are disappointing but hey, at roughly twenty dollars a pop - depending on where you buy this movie, I suppose the customer gets what he or she has paid for.
BOTTOM LINE: WORTHWHILE.

Review: Plot: Nickie is on a liner enroute to New York. He plans to marry Lois, a wealthy heiress who is waiting for him there. On the ship he meets Terry, who has a man waiting for her in New York too. They enjoy each other's company, but go their separate ways. Nickie tries to meet Terry again, unsuccessfully. Terry is involved in a serious accident and is incapacitated for many months. The basic story of An Affair To Remember, a man and a woman meeting on a ship crossing an ocean and falling in love, is just the foundation of this wonderful and witty tale of true Love.
Nickie Ferrante (Cary Grant) is a suave, well-bred playboy, living the good life by charming wealthy women with his good looks, manners and sophistication. He jet-sets around the world with the rich and famous ' in Europe, on yachts, in New York. Always with a beautiful woman of wealth on his arm. Terry McKay (Deborah Kerr) is a girl from Boston with a dream of going to New York and making it as a singer. As she is working in a night club, she meets Kenneth (Richard Denning), who sees Terry's potential as the perfect wife, if given the right training. Kenneth takes her away from the hard world of the night clubs and moves her into a penthouse apartment on Park Avenue. Here she can study music, art, literature and become the perfect hostess. Both Nickie and Terry are sailing from Europe, back to their intended fiancée's. He to Lois Clarke (Neva Patterson), a wealthy heiress. She back to Kenneth, a wealthy and successful business man. What they do not expect is to find Love along the way. From their first meeting on deck the sparks fly. For Nickie, he is just looking for a last fling. For Terry, it's more curiosity. He is pink champagne to her, fun but sure to lose it's bubble. She soon realizes that being seen with him is not a good idea. He creates publicity wherever he goes, and publicity is the last thing she wants.. When their ship stops in a port along the way, their lives are changed forever. Nickie is going to visit his grandmother, Janou (played beautifully by Cathleen Nesbitt). He invites Terry to come with him to visit his Grandmother's world. During their visit with Janou, they realize they've fallen in Love. On the last night of the cruise, they make a pact. Nickie will try to make a living by painting and Terry heads back to Boston and a job at a Nightclub. In six months, the will meet at the top of the Empire State Building at 5PM. As Terry says, "It's the closest thing to Heaven we have in New York City!" Six months later, Terry is struck by a car as she is running to meet him. She is paralyzed and is determined not to tell Nickie until she can walk again. Nickie spends the next year searching for the answer to why she did not show up that night. When he finally finds her, she is no longer in the Penthouse overlooking Central Park. It is Christmas and he brings her a shawl that Janou wanted her to have. The final scene is wonderfully romantic movie and is guaranteed to bring tears to your eyes. It is my favorite scene in the movie! Where Love conquers all. When the movie was released a critic from TIME called it a "saccharine trifle' suffocating in its sentimental wrappings." To me it is a story of true Love. One that makes both Nickie and Terry better people. I think this is why so many women love this movie. Not only did Prince Charming come along and sweep her off her feet, but she gave him the courage to be successful on his own terms. Their Love changed them and conquered their fears. The dialog is witty, sincere and heart warming. A story of the power of Unconditional Love! And this is why this is my favorite Cary Grant movie.

Review: "An Affair To Remember" is one of those rare films that always stays in the back of your mind no matter how many films you watch throughout your life. This story draws you in and doesn't let you go until the end credits. This film is about two people who fall in love on a cruise ship and agree to meet each other six months later on top of the Empire State Building in New York City to get married. Unfortunately, things don't go exactly as planned. This is a wonderful story about love and triumph. I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to watch a really good movie with a good message: love can conquer all.

Review: "An Affair to Remember," is in my opinion one of the greatest romance films of all time. Deborah Kerr and Cary Grant make alovely and beautiful couple. The film is memorable and roomantic, as well as beautiful to watch. It's one of the best, and I highly recommend it. The scenery and storyline is great. It's a very entertaining film and one that makes you want to see it again and again. Truly enchanting and about True Love.

Review: I was first introduced to this movie by my then fiancee and my now wife. An Affair To Remember has been one of her favorites for many years and is now one of mine. There is one word to describe this movie and it is "classic".
