Summary: Hilariously zany!
Review: This film has been a personal favorite since its release in 1968. Scripted and directed by Mel Brooks (whose routine as the 2000-year-old-man remains one of the funniest creations of all times), it has an exceptional pair of lead actors in the frazzled Zero Mostel and the bewildered Gene Wilder--the eponymous producers. The very notion of creating a terrible Broadway show is hilarious; to focus on Hitler and Germany and actually make it funny is a singular accomplishment. "Springtime for Hitler" is, incredibly, a madly catchy title tune for the supposedly ill-fated production--splendidly performed by the feckless Dick Shawn (as Hitler). The sexual antics of Mostel and a bevy of elderly women (most notably the aged Estelle Winwood) to generate funds for the production are madly funny, yet never cruel. Mostel and Wilder play off each other with impeccable timing, to great effect. The Producers holds up perfectly, not in the least dated, and remains as funny today as it was back in 1968. If you've never seen it, you're missing a rare, truly hilarious, gem.
My highest recommendation.

Summary: I saw Blazing Saddles.......This is no Blazing Saddles...
Review: The Producers is a bit of a yawn, I'm sorry. I don't believe I laughed out loud once. There were a few chuckles to be had, but most of the jokes are very forced. It's definitely old-school humor. I believe this was Mel's first movie, so I'm willing to give him a break. Obviously, he had more to offer. Blazing Saddles always was and always will be a very fun and funny movie. Watch that instead.

Summary: What's happenin' Goebbels Baybeeee!
Review: Hilarious, and it just gets better with age. This is the best that Mel Brooks ever turned out. Zero Mostel and Gene Wilder are palatable but the real star of the show is Dick Shawn as a completely whacked out version of one of history's most whacked out characters. Shawn was an unappreciated comedic genius that for some reason went for long periods of time without a gig. His hipster Adolph Hitler with an earring is guaranteed to both repulse and convulse just about anybody into a state of stunned hilarity. Add a Rockettes style chorus and the dancing Swastika and you're on the floor before you know it. One of Hollywood's craziest, daring, and most inventive films. Catch more of Dick Shawn's best work in Way Way Out, Mad Mad World, and Evil Roy Slade. 5 Combovers.

Review: This movie is SO funny. Short of revealing the whole plot because I enjoyed it so much, let's just say you should buy it now. Zero Mostrel and Gene Wilder are fabulous...the plot's terrific and really "out there". This is a must-see classic!!

Summary: Springtime For Laughter
Review: This was one, (if not the first) of the earliest Mel Brooks films, and the place where Gene Wilder's character was born......indeed, it was the Bloom character that Wilder was to become the rest of his career.....but this was it's best performance.

By now everyone pretty much knows the story of the broadway producers who raise money for a show that will flop so they can keep the money......the great experience is how they do it....

This is one of those films that contains laugh out loud performances, and can be a very enjoyable way to spend a couple of hours....

And, of course, there is Zero......

Summary: The Producers
Review: Having seen Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick on Broadway in the prodution of the Producers,I am afraid that the film does not live up to the live experience.... both actors were stunning to watch.. the next best thing to seeing it live is to get this movie.

Summary: Finally a classic gets the treatment it deserves
Review: This film ranks #11 on the AFI's top 100 comedys, only beat by films like Tootsie, Dr. Strangelove, and Duck Soup. So why haven't you heard of it. You've heard of other Brooks films like Spaceballs, Young Frankenstein, and Blazing Saddles, but why not this one. The truth is that I don't know. Maybe because this is about Nazi Germany makes some viewers say no, but its more about a play, later made into a real play, put on Broadway (also buy the "Musical Romp" dvd). I've seen this film in theaters, VHS, TV, Lasesdisc, Beta, and now DVD, with very good-looking special features (Closed-captioned, New Transfer, 5.1 AND mono, trailers,
"Making of The Producers" documentary, a sketch gallery, a Playhouse outtake, a Photo gallery (40 still photos), Peter
Cast-recording spot). The film is not only dvd-quality, but it has a new high-definition digital transfer, and the sound remastered and remixed in 5.1, and if you don't have surroun sound, or think it should be or sounds better in mono, you have thet, too. You also have a full-screen or widescreen choice, so this dvd is set up for any tastes.

Summary: The funniest movie EVER!!
Review: This classic film is on everyone's top ten of all time. But forget about that, if you don't get the plot, the humor and the farce, then you must be from ...., I don't know, from Germany!
I guess that's the only way you wouldn't get this.
From the idea that by producing a flop could net the producer a fortune, to finding the flop, hiring the wrong director, the wrong actor, romancing little old ladies to finance the show, and then having it all turn around on you... you can see it coming, like a freight train, but you just can't stop it.
This is the type of movie to watch again and again, with friends who enjoy it. Most people I know who love this film (and that covers everyone who's seen it), recite dialoge from the film at a moment's notice. The funniest thing I heard was a CFO who was interviewing for a controller and when, after an exhaustive search he finally settled on a candidate, proudly announced,"That's our Hitler!". (sorry Mel, he didn't give you a credit, but I certainly did!).

Summary: Springtime for Broadway
Review: What a great idea that Brooks finally took this movie and adapted it into a stage musical where it belongs! Mel Brooks' true home is the theater, where his gags, madcap humor, and rapid-fire exchanges are what audiences are hungry for. His comedy needs an audience and feeds off of it. This movie, his directoral debut, hinted at that audience-need in it's play-within-a-play: "Springtime For Hitler".

I saw this movie just because it was about guys making a musical comedy about Hitler. What isn't funny about that?! I can laugh just thinking about chorus girls dressed in storm-trooper uniforms kick-lining to gunfire.

This movie cannot disappoint. Zero Mostel and Gene Wilder are masters and were both perfect. The plot is necessarily zany and weird. It has all the traditional Brooksian elements as well as revealing a talent for staging musical productions-- this is a hint he picked up on in 2000 with his smash Broadway success.

Thank you, Mr. Brooks for continuing to make us laugh. "We're HYSTERICAL! WE'RE HYSTERICAL!!!"

Summary: where is the humor?
Review: I thought this would be a brilliant comedy. The Idea with the Hitler cabaret is great, so I was utterly disappointed at what I got. The ideas of the movie were very original so everything should have been funny, but it wasn't.The dialogue of the movie is soooo bad,I couldn't believe it. I laughed exactly once! ( where the 2 meet the Nazi with his birds),and the rest was terrible.Every idea of the movie was so original, you almost couldn't make a bad movie of it - almost!
I just don't get it.

Normally I like Mel Brooks, but laughing while watching is only possible if you are an insane psychopath who's anyhow laughing all the time, or if you're under the age of 3 ,so you don't understand a bit of it.
I can only enjoy it with voice out (the acting is quite good),but though I,ve seen a loooot of movies (about 2000?) this is THE WORST.
