Summary: one of my favorites
Review: I've known about this movie since before it started being filmed. Some of the extras I knew. It was also filmed about 2 miles above my grandparents cabin in eastern Oregon. (UP E. Eagle creek). Most of the cast and crew stayed in Baker (now Baker City) Oregon. What still amazes me, every time I watch the ending scenes, is how well they restored the area. Within a short time the only sign that anything had happened there were the signs left stating that the film had been shot on that spot. I still love to get lost watching the film and hearing the music. Thanks for the memories. And a well made film.

Summary: all time great comedy, with songs
Review: Numerous of my male friends think this is one of the ten best movies ever made. You have to have a great time from the opening question "Is they dead?" "they better be 'cause I'am gonna bury em." View with a couple of cold beers. A great time. Harve Presnell deserves special mention, we could use a voice like that today (saw him do Annie, should have gotten movie role). A travesty was not included in 100 best comedies, it is certainly one of the 10 funniest movies ever. Has great plot completion, rounds into an unpredictable satisfying conclusion.

Summary: Great Story, Great Music, Great Fun
Review: This is one of those films that has you believing that it could actually have happened in the California of the 1850's. Like Camelot and The Sound of Music, many of the songs can stand on their own merits, the acting is great, the story funny yet bittersweet.

Summary: Completely misunderstood
Review: Paint Your Wagon has been unjustly criticized ever since it was first released. While it may not be great in the way that the classic Hollywood musicals are, it happens to be at least as good as Funny Girl, Fiddler on the Roof, or any other musical from the late sixties. The two leads, Clint Eastwood and Lee Marvin, were not meant to be great singers or dancers, the musical quality of their performances wasn't quite the point. In fact, by not being ace musical performers they add a touch of realism to each scene where they break into song. While it's a touch long and a lot of money may have been wasted, that's quite a small sin relative to what's going on in Horrorwood these days. Frankly, I think it's a funny film with a fairly enjoyable story and some nice comedic performances. The script went through a re-write by none other than Paddy Chayefsky himself and some of his brilliance shines through. In fact, I can give you a detailed analysis of the little hidden meanings that I believe Chayefsky hid throughout this film, but now's not the time. Just take my word for it, people. Watch this movie very, very closely and don't be afraid to attach big, lofty, high-falutin' meanings to everything and soon you'll see that this movie holds at least as much meaning as anything made during its era. And to add to all this, it has some great songs, my favorite of which is Marvin's rendition of Wanderin' Star, which was a number one hit in England.

Summary: Still entertaining
Review: The waste he saw on the set of "Paint Your Wagon" supposedly inspired Clint Eastwood's tight economical ways when making his own Malpaso productions, and, of course, this film is usually considered on a par with "Heaven's Gate" as a costly disaster. It may have laid an egg at the box-office, but it's still a very entertaining movie whether approached as a musical or a lighthearted western. Lee Marvin and Clint Eastwood may not be the best singers in the world, but they sing well in character. Eastwood does a particularly commendable job on "Gold Fever," but Harve Presnell steals both stars' thunder with a knockout version of the best song, "They Call the Wind Maria." It's an entertaining show all around, and, because of its cast, possibly of more interest to film fans who don't necessarily enjoy musicals, as opposed to those that do.

Summary: A definate 'must see'
Review: 'Paint Your Wagon' is a rare blend of music, humor, and a fine tale of the old west during the California Gold Rush. The musical score is outstanding (Mariah, There's a Coach Comin' In, Gospel of no Name City), and worth owning the video for on its own merits (The film's musical score is also available on CD). Both Lee Marvin (Ben) and Clint Eastwood (Partner) portray believable (though humorous) characters from last century. They are supported by a well selected cast which gives the film heart and levity while still asking the more serious human question, "where am I going in life". This is one film that once you start watching, you won't be able to stop. Pure non-stop enjoyment from beginning to end.~heartily and highly recommended for all age groups~

Review: This movie has all elements to be a great movie. It has songs, comedy, good actors and a very good script, being a western! . It's the best film (in my oppinion). Lee Marvin and Clint Eastwood are two excellent actors.

Review: All the family loved this movie, from grandma and grandpa to the youngest of the grandkids. It is a treasured classic in our home. The setting and characters are the most authentic I have ever seen in any western, and the music breaths life to the story.

Summary: A movie that was ahead of it's time
Review: Depicting a way of life that was prevalent during the western gold rush, this movie still goes a long way to show the simple goodness in people. Loyalty, trust, and humor weave their way through a solid story and incredible scenery. The music is memorable and can stand alone on it's on merit, with lyrics many today should take to heart. The overall impression is a fun, glorius, romp through an exciting time.
