Summary: A Fine Film, But...
Review: Let it be said at the outset that "Dr. Lao" is a charming little movie, with a wonderful script by Charles Beaumont (adapting the Charles Finney novel) and a fine performance by Tony Randall. But screenwriter Beaumont put it best when he said that the producers "turned what had been gold, or at least bright copper, into lead." Alas, "Dr. Lao" has an inescapably cheap, B-movie look to it: the cheesy sets, poor photography, and undistinguished supporting actors (the type you've seen in a thousand old TV shows and never quite noticed). Childhood nostalgia clearly plays a large role in the glowing reviews one finds for this film; it's a solid B-movie, nothing more.

Summary: Experience 7 Faces of Dr Lao! ............or die deprived..
Review: Tears well in my eyes and something catches in my throat at every viewing. I helplessly and enthusiastically recommend it to anyone and everyone I care about. I've subjected my summer school classes and my sons to this special treat of the cinema shamelessly wiping away the tears as I watch the magic capture another devotee. A completely uncommon western. Food for the soul. Lessons for life at all ages. Tony Randall capturing your imagination in a role...roles! as he never did before or since. Barbara Eden early in her film career irrestibly charming. And a kid who will touch you as deeply as Jackie Cooper in The Champ or Shirley Temple ever did. All of this and more delivered by the golden age master of cinematic fantasy, George Pal. Well, what more could you want? Don't die, never having seen it. The sooner you see it, the sooner you can look forward to seeing it again and sharing it with your friends. YES! YES! YES!

Review: A fortune cookie! "This circus is like a mirror -- sometimes you see yourself in it, sometimes someone else." Like the Wizard of Oz, it takes us to a strange world where we learn things about ourselves and each other and in the basic "dignity of man" as Clinton Stark finally learns again. "Every time you say, 'I'm alive and being alive is FANTASTC' then you too are part of the Circus of Dr. Lao."

Summary: A Movie to Share with the New Generation
Review: Every once in a while, I like to introduce my daughter, now 11, to something that I enjoyed from my childhood. It's a hit or miss proposition. In the case of "The Seven Faces of Dr. Lao", it was a definite hit! I showed the video to my daughter the other day and she loved it. Other parents should share this film, and it's timeless message about this circus we call life, with their children.

Review: This movie is THE BEST! I have looked and looked for this video in the stores, and no one carried it... then I thought "Hey, I bet Amazon.com would have it!" And then for the rest of the day, you're humming that song they play throughout the entire film, "Do do do DO do DO do DO do dah do dooooo..."

Review: I loved this film as a child and became reacquainted with it as an adult. It hasn't lost any of it's magic for me. Look for Tony Randall's appearance in the crowd during the second night of Dr. Lao's circus.

Summary: Satire at its finest
Review: Charles Finney's classic satire of American mores is stunningly realized. One (several) of Tony Randall's finest performances. The perfect vehicle to illustrate for children (or even alert adults) the hypocrisy of mainstream America. George Pal at his best here. A fortuitous concatenation of Hollywood's finest talent yielded this unforgettable film. Every child who sees it will cherish it as an adult.

Summary: GEORGE PAL'S GREATEST, TONY RANDAL, BARBARA EDEN SUPERB
Review: George Pal did a fabulous job of synthethizing the dragons and seven headed monsters. Tony Randal's portrayal of all seven characters was the finest acting of his career. Barbara Eden's portrayal of a frigid, but love starved young lady was a classic. (Can anyone imagine a love starved Barbara Eden?, what a flight of fancy.) The look of absolute horror on her face when she finds herself almost kissing a satyr is the greatest pieces of actinG I have ever seen.

Review: Tony Randall is at his supreme best in this magical movie that leaves you with a feeling of inner peace. It's filled with adventure and wonder and the special effects are amazing. I've loved this movie since I was a child and it remains captivating now for my children. A MUST HAVE for your collection!

Review: This fantastic movie wherein Tony Randall plays a majority of the parts, is truly one of my favorites. It never lost my interest and was captivating up to the end. A good movie for youngsters to watch to learn the value of being themselves. I recommend it for the entire family, young and old. A real classic.
