Summary: In my own way, I thought "The Birds" was a good movie.
Review: In my own way, I thought "The Birds" was a pretty good movie overall. In 1963, Alfred Hitchcock made this movie to be a horror film, but now in 1999 "The Birds" movie was kind of funny in a way, I thought. The special effects of the movie "The Birds" were great for the 1960's. I thought Tippi Hedren, who played Melanie Daniels, was a very weak actress in this movie especially when, towards the end, she was being attacked by the birds because she didn't scream or yell for help. Rod Taylor, who played Mitch Brenner, was a pretty good actor. He was always calm and he always knew what to do. Jessica Tandy, who played Lydia Brenner, was an okay actress, I guess. She was always scared. She was even scared of the two lovebirds. Veronica Cartwright, who played Kathy Brenner, was a pretty good actress. She yelled and screamed whenever the birds came to attack, just like you would expect an eleven-year-old to do. Suzanne Pleshette, who played Annie Hayworth, was a good actress, I thought. She was always calm and caring of others, before herself. When I first saw this movie in 1987, I wouldn't go outside or even look at a bird for two years. Today, I don't think this film still qualifies as a horror film, because it just isn't as scary as it was in the 1960's, due to what horror films have evolved to. I didn't really like the ending of the movie because it just left you hanging, making you wonder what would happen next and it didn't answer the question as to why the birds attacked like that. Plus, it all started when Melanie Daniels brought those two love birds to Mitch Brenner and it didn't explain whether or not that had anything to do with the film's events. If I were to rate this movie, I would probably give it a three star rating.

Summary: The movie The Birds was a very weird movie.
Review: The movie The Birds, in my General opinion,was a very weird movie. Even though I understand that this movie was made in 1963,it is very boring to watch. There is no real suspense or horror and the scenes never really build up to much because there is no music throughout the whole movie. The special effects were not too bad for an old movie,But it could have used a little more detail in some of the scenes.The role of the actors/actresses were really out there(confusing). Melanie Daniels,a blond 60's lady,it seemed was only in the movie for the love,or the romantic part with Mitch Brenner. Kathy Brenner had the most annoying scream,and her cry sounded so fake.Almost every actor/actress had showed no real emotion to any of the parts played. The Birds is nothing compared to a modern day horro movie due to the that tecnolgy has come so far in making horror films so much more realistic. I would give this film 2** stars and tell you to have a very open mind when you watch this movie. Evie Taylor Lapeer MI.

Summary: I rate it both good and bad.
Review: My review of Alfred Hitchcock's movie "The Birds", is both good and bad. Due to the fact that this movie was made in the 60's and this is the 90's, the special effects seem pretty lame to me. However, if I were alive when this movie first came out, I can imagine that it would have scared the living daylights out of me. For that perticular time period, the special effects were great. In the 60's this movie was a great horror flick, but in the 90's, this is laughed at, and can only be found in the drama section of a movie store, as it just doesn't fit the category of horror these days. I think the characters Melanie Daniels, played by Tippi Hedren, and Mitch Brenner, played by Rod Taylor, fit their parts well. The fact that the movie had no music at all made the suspense scenes a little more suspenseful. Over all, I rate this movie with three stars. I want to rate it low because I didn't like it, but I want to rate it high because it was good in its time. I had to go with a happy medium.

Summary: I dont feel that the movie was all that great.
Review: I think that Birds was interesting,although I dont rate the movie very highly compared to today's film's.I do feel that it should be seen, simply because Al is a great directer, and, along, with Psycho it is one of the first film's of its kind. As far as special effects go, they are great for the 60's,yet for today my little broth could have done better. Although the way they got the birds to stay there was cool. I feel that the characters did a good job. Ithink that Tippi Hedern,playing the part of Melanie Daniels, could have shown more drama when being attacked. The ending should have gone on longer. It left you siting there saying "is that the end ?" Compared to todays horror film's I would rate it poorly, due to the fact we are used to seeing blood, guts, and somthing fast paced. On a scale of 1 - 5 I rate this film 2.5,because it cant compare to today's film's.

Summary: A classic that that makes the hourglass stand still!
Review: "The Birds"is a classic movie, theres no doubt. Many of Hitchocks ideas have been used ever since. For exampale, Hitchcocks ending wasn't my favorite part but, some of my favorite movies had inconclusive endings as well. Hitchcocks best element in this movie is his use of realism.There are no zombies or aleins or forgotten curses. The plot therefore is more believable. The plot is too slow compared to a 90's film,and why didn't Rod Taylor kill any of the birds? I think this shows the difference in heroes of the 70's and the 90's. Instead of running away with there girlfreind heroes strap on a sawwed-off shotgun and chainsaw to fight off the evil forces. the suddellty of this movie was an element that made this movie to actually take place in real time. The slowness of the beggining was what gave me this impression. I think if this movie were redone today that it would be shorter in lenght and probably more action packed.today's movie's have less setting. Idont think that Hitchcock realized that movie's dont need the as much setup. I think that overall this movie set many milestones in the theater but it didn't have what it takes to be that great of a movie. I gave this film a 3 star rating.

Summary: A decent movie that was destroyed
Review: I believe that this movie was a great movie, for its time. This movie has great effects for the 60's. Campareded to the 90's complex plots, this had no plot what so ever. The birds just started attacking without reason and explanation. I feel that the attaking scenes were great. The suspense of seeing the birds gather on the playground was awesome.I really didn't like the acting at all. Tippi Hedren was the tipical ditzy blonde. All she was good for was the romantic part between her and Mitch. Rod Taylor, as Mitch Brenner, was the only good actor in the whole movie, because he knows how to act, unlike the other actors. The ending was really stupid. Hitchcock should have ended it in some way, instead of leaving the viewer hanging. This destroys the plot. These horror scenes don't compare in anyway to modern day horror films. With all of the blood, guts, and suspense filmmakers use today. Along with the high budgets, horror films are much more exciting. The Birds can't compare to modern day horror films.

Summary: The Old Old, different movie
Review: I have just seen the birds by Alfred Hicthcock. Since seeing this movie I am afraid to see any more movies from this time period. If I was the movie company and read the script I would laugh him out of the building. Special Efects really stunk in today's standers. If you thought Psyco was so good, what happen? The actris Tippi Hedrens as Melenie. She acted to stuck up. Rob Taylor, as Mitch, wasn't so bad but he acted real formel. Veronica Cartwright as Kathy Brenner cried the who movie which was very annoying. I Thank the best actors in the movie were the birds. The end of the movie was a lot different than what I was used to. I can't say that I liked it or disliked the ending, it was just different. The way it ended just left you haning and woundering whats going to happen Although birds was good for its time, it does not start to compare to today's horror films. Films today show more gore and use the "In your face shock" as the birds spent an hour getting to the real movie. I would like to rate this movie a number 2 on the Cheesy scale

Summary: This movie was not that great.
Review: My general opinion of the film, the birds as a whole is that this movie would have been a great movie if I was from that era. I felt as if the plot could of been better because it took too long to get to the point. More action was needed during the first hour. I guess the movie's special effect's were O.K. for that time. My opinion is that all of the birds sounded like a giant flock of Donald Duck's. Rod taylor's part as Mitch Brenner, would have been better if he had some better supporting actresses. Tippi Hedren (Melanie Danials) play your typical 1990's blonde in a 1960's movie. I feel as if she is just there to look pretty and be somthing to look at. Where was the ending? There was no ending. When I see a movie I expect to have an ending. The Birds just left me hanging. I feel as if this movie cannot compare with a modern day horror film. This movie is nothing compared to Friday the 13th movies. My rating of this movie is ** (two stars)

Summary: I think this movie was a horror film of the 60's!
Review: My general opinion of the movie, The Birds was that it was a good movie for 1963. The special effects were pretty good and even though it didn't have any music, the sound of the birds was freaky enough to replace the music. I think that Tippi Hedren, who played the part of Melanie Daniels, was alright, but if I were being attacked by a bunch of birds, I know that I would scream my head off. But still, she was pretty cool until the end when she got attacked and then her acting seemed fake. I liked the end of this film, even though it left me hanging. It lets the viewer imagine what may happen at the end of the movie. The Birds couldn't even compare to a horror film now, but I'm sure it did in it's time. It just doesn't have the suspense and the thrill of movies today. Movies today have blood and gore and scary music which adds to their entertainment value. I heard that in all of Hitchcocks movies he makes a breif scene in them. In The Birds, he appeared at the begining and he was walking dogs!

Summary: One of the best classic horror films of all time.
Review: My opinion of this movie, The Birds, is that it is a masterpiece of it's own time. This was a great piece of classic horror; Alfred Hitchcock did a fantastic job. The special effects were very believeable, especially for coming from the early sixties. I still haven't figured out how they got all of those birds to attack, or if half of them were fake. Also, Hitchcock did a great job of showing blood and gore when it was qppropriate, like when Jessica Tandy as Lydia Brenner finds Lonny Chapman as Deke Carter with his eyes pecked out. The movie did, however, lack music so this made it kind of drag along. Music would have paced the movie, and also added suspense and other effects. Tippi Hedren as Melanie Daniels was a bad actress. She showed no real emotion and always seemed to be worried about her appearance instead of her acting. I really noticed this in the bedroom scene, when she was being attacked, and she didn't even scream. Rod Taylor, who played the role of Mitch Brenner, was a great actor. He seemed real and Believable. He showed emotion in every scene, and his overall performance was pleasant. Jessica Tandy is great in all the films she is in, and this one was no exception. As Lydia Brenner, she did a great job of acting rude and mean to Melanie Daniels through out the whole movie. I was, however, very annoyed with the young actress that played Cathy Brenner. She was a horrible actress with over-elaborate emotional breakouts, and when she cried after she was attacked, it was so annoying, I thought my ears were bleeding. The ending to the film was very bland. There should have been more closure to the whole situation instead of just making you wonder what happened to them. The Birds is nothing like modern day horror films. It takes a more believeable line to horror than most modern day films. Modern horror consists mostly of the supernatural or total carnage. Although I would still put The Birds into a category with any modern day horror flicks, I still believe that it is definitely classic horror.
