Review: I've waited and waited and waited for Auntie Mame on DVD. I have it on Beta, VHS and Laserdisc. I used to fake being sick during grade school and junior high to stay home and watch it on reruns. It is hilarious. Buy it. Save it. Make your kids watch it. Is there anything more hilarious than Mame's final cocktail party? I think not.

Review: I saw Auntie Mame for the first time about ten years ago. At that time I had an office just a few short blocks from Beekman Place, the fictious address of Auntie Mame. If you've ever had the opportunity to stoll along the narrow streets of this exclusive enclave, you know just how charming a venue it can be. I used to imagine how lovely it would be to experience one of Mame's enchanting cocktail partys. There's no telling who might show up. You could per chance meet a Duke, a Countess, a Judge, a juggler, a yogi, a Hollywood film director, a writer, a Wall Street tycoon, a lawyer, a surgeron, a diplomat, a Maha Rahja, or the mayor of New York City. Life at Auntie Mames' was like...Well you know what Forest Gump's mama would say "life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you'll get".

Here's a film that is absolutely gaurnteed to provide you with your moneys worth of escapist entertainment. This is your perfect rainy day, wipe away the blues, life is for the taking, Hollywood feel-good movie. Auntie Mame simply gets better and better with each viewing. You don't believe me? Just take a walk down Beekman Place. Stroll along the park, that looks over the East River and look up into one of those georgous town-houses. There's a party going on and you're invited. Pull up a chair and let me introduce you to Mame Dennis. I think you're going to enjoy yourself. In fact I know you're going to want to come back again and again.

Summary: One of the best that isn't on those Top 100 lists
Review: This is the one and only version of Auntie Mame that anyone should ever see. Rosalind Russell is brilliant as the eccentrically loving Mame who takes in nephew Patrick and includes him in her madcap life. Having been charmed by the original release of the film back in the '50s, I had the great pleasure of introducing my (now-adult daughter) to Mame--thereby bringing another generation forward to share the pleasure of the production.

Dealing as it does with the highs and lows of Mame's fortunes, her loves and losses and, always, her devotion to Patrick, there is great comedy, genuine sentiment and some wonderful social comment as well. While Russell always turned in fine performances (The Women, most notably), she put subsequent wannabe efforts to shame. The Lucille Ball version (in which she looks as if she was shot through Vaseline-covered cheesecloth) is lamentably bad, going for cheap laughs. But there is nothing cheap about this, the original. From Mame's efforts to be a salesgirl at Macy's during the Christmas season, to her gentle put-down of an anti-semite, Russell is glorious as Mame--big-hearted, big-humored, and wonderfully off-center. And good performances are given across the board by co-cast members Peggy Cass, Coral Browne, Forrest Tucker, and Connie Gilchrist and Yuki Shimoda as Russell's faithful staff.
Get this and share it with special friends and family. It is truly one of the all-time great movies.
My highest recommendation.

Review: I'm so glad this comedy classic is on dvd. This is one of my favorite comedys of all time. Rosalind Russell is superb as Mame, the eccentric aunt that young orpan, Patrick, is sent to live with. Mame, he soon finds, lives life to its fullest and he grows up in her world of interesting people and trips to exotic places. Peggy Cass is a riot as Agnes Gooch, Mame's secretary and Corale Brown is hilarious as Mame's best friend, Vera, a boozing actress and competitive friend. The story follows Patrick from childhood to his adulthood and shows his Auntie Mame's influence during his life. She gets into a ton of comical situations---there are enough laughs in this film to please even the most critcal cynic. Wanna a fun night with friends? Get this dvd. A great addition to your comedy collection.

Review: If ever an actor was meant to play the role of a lifetime, it's Rosalind Russel as Auntie Mame! Her portrayal of the infamous flamboyand and ultra-excentric riches-to-rags-back-to-riches Society Dame resulted in one of Hollywood's most precious gems.

The DVD version maximizes the enjoyment of watching the brilliant color cinematography, the climactic fade-outs, and the overall effect of this 1958 Classic. We all know the story, and hopefully the DVD version of this wonderful production will become as popular as the original film. A definite 5-star movie experience!

Review: This movie should be on all family holiday movie venues. It ranks right up there with The Bells of St. Mary. Auntie Mame has all the important family values neatly tucked away and then exposed by the fabulous script and the amazing cast. If you laugh to long, you might miss something.A Brillant, 5 star warm and fuzzy film.

Review: "Auntie Mame" with Rosalind Rsssell is one the few movies that get better with each showing. Ms. Russell makes the character of Mame Dennis Burnside just leap of the screen and into your face.
"Auntie Mame" is one of those movie that deserves to be on DVD. So if you have nothing to do, spend sometime with your "Auntie Mame."

Summary: Like fine wine, Auntie Mame ages well
Review: I must have seen this movie about a hundred times, and it just gets better and better. This is, by any measure, an uproariously funny film. You find yourself rooting for her and her unconventional approach to raising Patrick, even though you know deep in your heart that you'd be mortified to expose your own children to the kinds of things she exposes him to. The finale is a comedic treasure ("Is everyone lit?") that I can watch again and again. But I think the best part is the unrestrained joie de vive that bursts from the character of Mame, so skillfully played by Rosalind Russell. I still find it criminal that this movie is not better-known to more modern audiences.
