Summary: Soylent Green is truly a classic!
Review: Even though, the special effects and the filming methods might seem a bit primitive by today's standard, this movie in question, i.e., Soylent Green VHS ~ Charlton Heston must be considered to a true classic in its genre, i.e., that of the science fiction realm of movies. Heston plays the role of the cop (and plays this role with the same intensity that one has come to expect from a legendary actor; especially moving is the scene where his friend is going under the governments euthanasia) whom realizes to his great dismay and even greater horror what soylent greens secret ingredient is. I would definitely recommend this movie to anyone whom has a taste for good science fiction movies that have a good story line and decent special effects.

Summary: Soylent Green is made out of.....you'll have to see the film
Review: It is of no surprise that certain corporations or institutions run industrial cities and destroy the environment around them. Let alone these two oragnizations being run by petty bureaucrats who weave their own Machavellian webs of deceit, use innocent people as scapegoats, and try to coverup things. Corporations like UPS, Meijer, Wal-Mart, Kroger, GSL, ans IUS have been guilty and notorious for such misdeeds. Even your typical university/college and its personnel are also guilty of such charges (i.e. the computer sciences division, the head cooridinator of student disabilities, The Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs, The Police Cheif who is always looking for something and his subordiantes, etc). Not a pretty picture is it? Yet, when you get right down to it, such corruption and atrocities are everywhere in the world and people are willing to go to extremes to cover it up, even iif it means enforcing a gag order or killing someone. And Soylent Green does an excellent job in bringing these realities to the screen with frightening clarity and shocking results.Set in an overcrowded and polluted 21st Century New York City, circa 2022 AD, and based on Harry Harrison's classic science fiction novel "Make Room! Make Room!", the movie tells the story about the conspiracy and murder of a corporate board member, and a hard-nosed New York Police Detective assigned to solving the case. A case that some corporate and government officials do not want to be solved. When the executive of the Soylent Board(a corporation that wields a distrubing amount of political influence and power) is brutally murdered in what apperas to be a buggled robbery attempt, Detective Thorn is assigned to finding out who killed the board member and why. With the help of the member's girlfriend, and his roommate, Thorn manages to put the pieces of the enigmatic puzzle together, and discovers that it was an assasination, not a robbery attempt. Thorn also manages to discover something else about the nutrient wafers called Soylent Green and what they are made of. During the course of his investigation he ends up finding more information than he bargained for, and all hell breaks loose. It's up to Thorn to expose the secret and stop the corporation anyway he can. Not a bad movie, despite it's '70's retrospective look. It introduces audience members a future that is well on its way, and what could happen if the human race does not take better care of the Earth snd its environment. Charlton Heston, Edward G. Robinson(in his final role), Leigh Taylor-Young, Chuck Connors, and a whole plethora of excellent actors do an extraordinary job of the material they are given, and the entire special effects, plot, music, and other elements of the movie are really good. If you enjoy science fiction or just the works of Charlton Heston in general, you might like this film. Be prepared for a shock. The source of Soylent Green will really take you by surprise. *Trivia note- The book that the movie was based on was set in New York City in 1999, right before New Year's Eve. Scary thought.

Summary: Keeps Getting Better and Better and Better!
Review: I never tire of seeing this film. Charlton Heston's performance is filled with tiny bits that provide depth and meaning, but may easily be overlooked on first viewing. He walks a tightrope between hopefulness and despair beautifully. I especially like the way he defends the present state of his life to Robinson, who constantly criticizes their situation, while he expresses horror and disgust at the state of the world to practically everyone else. Watching him solve the murder is not as interesting as getting to know him as a character or what our world has become. The murder itself is almost an excuse to introduce and develop his character. Today, this film would be followed by several sequels and pre-quels based solely on this compelling character.

Summary: A compelling and terrifying vision of the future.
Review: Soylent Green is one of those films that, as soon as I saw it, I wondered where had it been all my life? I though it was great, and made a point of telling all my friends about it. It's based on Harry Harrison's book "Make Room, Make Room!", which is itself half story/half documentary about over-population and environmental damage. The film uses the environmental disaster the world has become, and the resultant starvation, as a kind of backdrop, while the main story, it seems, is simply about a murder being investigated by Charlton Heston. The film very cleverly shows you all the realities of living in that bleak world by the way Heston brilliantly takes all sorts of terrible situations totally in his stride. As he leaves his apartment, he has to step over people sleeping on the steps; the air outside is murky and has a faint green glow; even though he's a detective, he sometimes has to get involved in food riot control and only has a helmet for protection; he has to recharge his apartment's batteries using a bicycle; his watch keeps breaking, but no-one is making new ones anymore. Similar small touches abound throughout the film, and taken together have a deep impact on you as you think about them after the film. Edward G. Robinson, in his last performance, plays Heston's partner, whose speciality is information and where to get it. He's an old man, and, finally, despair at the state of the world gets to him. His ultimate fate, the murder that Heston is investigating, and the environmental hell all around them, are all brought together right at the end, in a gripping finale. As the horrible truth dawns upon Heston, he cries out the answer: a four word phrase that encapsulates the horror of the world all about them. A fabulous ending that really sends a chill up your spine. This film features fine performances from two great actors, has good action, a fast pace, and really makes you think about the important issues at the core of the film. This truly is an excellent film.

Summary: The Secret Ingredient to Soylent Green ? The Story Itself
Review: One of the most impressive aspects of this film is how the director or conceptual artist avoided using "high-tech" looking props or sets; After all, Soylent Green takes place in a pessimistic future. Instead, the entire story and plot focus on two issues: a murder investigation, and the enigmatic ingredient in the Soylent Green wafers. True, the story takes place in a disintegrating global and human future, yet other directors or creators in other similar sci-fi themes tend to go with the glitz and high tech toys (Bladerunner---though, the use of such props was vital to the story itself as well). This film is highly recommended for those who enjoy science fiction on a more mental than visual level; It does make one think of the future of humanity !

Summary: You should see it before each election day!
Review: This is a picture of the United States as it is likely to become if we don't do a much better job taking care of this planet. We might not have exactly what is in the end of this movie, but we will see lots of madness, dispair, and horror if we do not begin to reduce our population with 1-child families, prepare for the time our oil reserves will be gone, and also begin to use renewable energy and recycle everything. This is not exactly something to watch just after mealtime, but it is something everyone must watch. My copy is beginning to show signs of wear and will need to be replaced soon.

Summary: HESTON GETS SWEATY
Review: Heston sweats alot (along with the rest of the men in the cast, but Heston is the best looking greasy-face), gets naked, and takes a shower with a chick. He also tells Edward G. Robinson he loves him many times. There are some good fights in this movie and Heston is wearing tight pants that are very flattering from the back. At the end of the movie, Heston actually emotes. He does it so rarely that it's a monumental occasion when it happens. What is he emoting about? You'll have to watch for yourself and find out.

Summary: You Gotta Tell Them, They Have To Know!...
Review: You'll just have to find out what the secret ingridient to Soylent Green is when you watch the movie. (:P) Anyway, this movie is the greatest movie of all time. (Except for maybe Logan's Run.) It is a scary look into what the future might be like unless we do something to help each other and our planet. It is a great movie with Heston at his prime. I give it, *watches the movie on five screens* FIVE STARS!

Summary: Do not take it so literaly, PLEASE!
Review: Soylent green is a fairy tale about how the world would have been if there had never been any environmentalists or Green-Peace. The movie has a neat theme song at the beginning but tha is about the neatest thing about it and think of the time that it was written nobody had heard of recycling and any of that, we have come a long way since those days and we are only getting better. However i do recomend the fil for that beginning alone, just be ready to have your remote control in your hand because you will be fast-fwding through a lot until EG's deathe scene. And remember: IT'S FICTION!, IT'S FICTION!, SOYLENT GREEN IS FICTION!
