Summary: One of the first, and best, ever.
Review: I can't believe this movie is not available for sale on tape or disc. From the beginning scene in the officers mess to the final, now quite famous lament by Scotty the newspaper man, "Look to the skies!", this movie has it all. If you're looking for multi-million dollar computer generated lizards, or Will Smith to save the Universe you may be a little disappointed. But if you want some great dialog, moody sets, believable characters, fast paced direction, and a very interesting love story (complete uncut version only), you would be depriving youself of one very engrossing, frightening movie if you didin't give this one a shot. Remember, this was made in 1951. This movie pretty much laid the ground work for dozens of movies to follow. I'll always consider it one of the best sci-fi's of all time.

Summary: Boring with a capital "B"
Review: This is a fine example of a snoozer movie from the 50's. The movie production was so pathetic that the monster suit looks like a big, green peanut not too unlike Mr Planters. Fortunately, James Arness a.k.a The Thing saw better days after his debut in this movie and didn't have to earn his living as a peanut salesman.Ps: I still don't know what's the big "hooh-hah" with this lemon. I wouldn't buy it if I were you and had lots of $$ to dispose of.

Summary: It still sends shivers down my spine!
Review: My search continues for this classic. I have a poor quality tape of the colorized version, with commercials, as it appeared on a cable station several years ago, (it pales in comparison to the black & white version). I first saw the film as it ran on TV as part of Saturday afternoon "Creature Feature" on a UHF station in Boston many years ago. Not only do I love the suspense as we wait to see what the creature will do next, but you truely feel the cold experienced by his awaiting victims when the creature shuts off the heat. The overlapping dialogue quickens the pace and make is the film more 'real'. And the cast of characters stuck together at the North Pole are the kind of people you can like - with one exception! Oh, and the dogs too! They add to the excitement as they start to bark . . . I hold out hope I will be able to own one of my most favorite movies! (Do you recall the movie the Halloween? In the scene where Jamie Lee Curtis is babysitting on Halloween night at Tommy's house? What is the movie on television? The Thing!)

Review: When I was a little boy of 7 years of age, my mother let me go to the movies by myself. I just had to see "The Thing". It scared the **** out of me. When the 'door opened and I saw the THING swing his arm' I ran out of the theater as fast as I could. I went back the next day with my mom!!!

Summary: "It scared the hell out of me"
Review: I saw this movie when it first came out and sat thru all 5 showings at my local theater (in one day). I purchased a videotape of this film about 15 years ago, when it was first released, and was somewhat disappointed, as there is a scene missing from the tape that I remember from the film. It was a scene with Kenneth Tobey and Marguerite Chapman, where he's tied to a chair. This was a somewhat flirtatious scene for that kind of movie, and was apparently cut for the video release. I sure wish I could find an uncut copy, it really takes me back to the days when they scared you without really showing you anything. Imagination! What a concept.

Summary: One of the best science fiction/horror movies of all time
Review: Considering most of the drivel in the sci-fi genre that emerged during this period, this film ranks right up there with the original Invasion of the Body Snatchers. The psychological aspects of the film, together with the tension and horror of a sinister alien discovery in the midst of an isolated arctic setting creates a realistic "chilling" experience. It has left a lasting impression on me ever since I first saw it. I join others in stating that I truly lament the fact that no video of it presently exists. Advise me when it does come out! In the meantime, whenever your dogs whine, pace and behave strangely at night, think back on the Thing! BRRRRR......

Summary: Scarriest SciFi movie ever made
Review: I accidently rented the 1982 version, thinking I was getting a remastered 1951 version. Boy, was I disappointed! I'll never forget the impact this movie had on me as a kid. Where, oh where, can I find it? If you know, let me know. Please, release it again. What a classic!!
