Summary: I only watched it to see Michael Crawford. It is poor.
Review: You would have to have some other reason to watch this than entertainment. It was long and draggy with very few high points. One was, of course, Louis Armstrong. Even that wasn't his best. Michael Crawford is always a joy. How he has changed! I own just about everything he ever did but I probably won't buy this.

Summary: Hello, Dolly! is a classic musical and Barbra is Wonderful!
Review: +AH4-Barbra Streisand has appeared in such greats as "Funny Girl" and "The Prince of Tides," but "Hello, Dolly!" is her greatest in my mind. As scheming Dolly Levi, (correct spelling) Streisand has quick lines and a myriad of songs to perform, and she does a great job. For instance: "You wanna marry Horace Vandergelder, Ms. Levi?" "Why, I don't know what put such a foolish idea into my head ... your head ... heh heh." Her heavenly singing voice helps her sing such cute songs as+AH4-+AH4- "Put On Your Sunday Clothes," "So, Long Dearie!" and of course: "Hello, Dolly!" She's a gem in a wonderful musical! Five Stars out Five For Hello, Dolly+AH4-

Summary: Striesand & Cast of Thousands Sink to the Bottom
Review: Over-long, over-blown, and remarkably slow, the film version is perhaps most remarkable for its incredibly bad casting. The music is a delight, and the incredibly miscast Striesand gives full vocal reign to her songs, but this alone is not enough to make the film-- which has some of the stagiest cinematography since the 1930s-- a success. One star for Striesand's attempts to pull it off and a one star for dazzling costumes.

Summary: Good enough
Review: This movie had some good songs in it, such as "Just Leave Everything to Me", "Put on Your Sunday Clothes", "So Long, Dearie", and, of course, the title song. The lavish costumes and sets are fine. Walter Matthau can be really funny sometimes. And then there's Barbra. Now, she has some really funny lines and good songs, and carries them off well. Yeah, I know she was too young, but what bothered me even more was her ego. I guess Dolly's supposed to be a "diva", but even 30 years ago, Barbra took it to extremes. I'm sure she's the one who insisted she always be filmed with loving closeups, always be the center of everything and leave everybody out. A scene's going well without her, and then she just happens to come in and take absolute control, and it gets pretty annoying. Even in the title song, when Louis Armstrong appears and starts singing, she won't shut up and makes sure the camera's always on her. I mean, he's a musical legend, for God's sake! Like I said, she's great with some lines and songs; the scene with the beets is hysterical and "Just Leave Everything to Me" and "So Long, Dearie" were great. But was Carol Channing ever this self-centered? I'm not saying don't watch it; it's certainly better than the film version of the other famous Jerry Herman musical, Mame, but Barbra and her ego can get pretty annoying.

Summary: SURPRISINGLY GOOD!
Review: I'm a Streisand fan, but I think that Carol Channing would have been better as Dolly. However, Barbra is surprisingly good. If you forget that she is too young for the role, you will be impressed by her brilliantly funny performance. Her duet with the great Louis Armstrong is fabulous! The scene where she's feeding Walter Matthau beets is a scream. A really good movie! (I've seen Channing on stage-she is the perfect Dolly-5 stars!)

Summary: One of the Greatest Movies I've Ever Seen!
Review: "Hello, Dolly!" is such a WONDERFUL MOVIE! It's one of my all time favorite musicals and one of the best movies I've ever seen. (How do you think I decided on my email address!) I'm always in such a good mood after I watch it. The MUSIC IS FABULOUS-upbeat and lively; it makes you want to get up and dance! I think Barbra Streisand gave a great performance and the role of Dolly Levi fit her well. All the costumes are beautiful and really give the movie the turn of the century feel. This movie is perfect if you want a nice comedy with a happy ending. Deffinitely a movie you could watch over, and over, and over...

Review: i think barbra streisand was awsome in it because she was good playing a marrige broker and. michale crawford was awsome in it to because he was a good singer i'm glad they made hello dolly because it's filled with fun and laughter and my high school just did the hello dolly play and they were awsome.

Review: My school has just done the musical "Hello Dolly!" and we got extrordinary reviews! If a high school on Long Island can revive a long dormant play with a standing ovation every night then certainly this play deserves special notice. See the movie. You will enjoy it!

Summary: LOVE BARBRA, LIKE "DOLLY"
Review: Barbra Streisand is perfect as Dolly, if the film was made in 1999. Unfortunatly, it was made thirty years earlier. Twenty-six year old Barbra plays a woman in her fifties. I'd love to see her in the role now she really is in her fifties.

Summary: The Unsinkable Barbra Streisand
Review: Steisand can bury any costar she shares a screen with and leave them in the scenery. Walter Matthau, unfortunately, is no exception. All told, Dolly is a steamroller in this production, directed with a perhaps too-gentle hand by Gene Kelly (of "Singin' In The Rain" fame). Interesting bits to watch for: a VERY young Michael Crawford, and an airplane flying across the background in the midst of a HUGE production number.
