Summary: A CLASSIC
Review: This hillarious film is one of the best Marx masterpieces there is. This was the first Marx film that I saw, and it got me hooked on the rest of their films. Duck Soup contains many hillarious scenes including: "The Hat Scene", "The Mirror Scene", and much more. Harpo gets very active with his gadgets in this movie and that makes it stand out. If you are a beginner Marx fan, or a Veteran Marx fan, or I don't care who you are, SEE THIS FILM!!!

Summary: One of the funniest movies ever made.
Review: "Duck Soup" is one of the funniest movies ever made. Hilarious scene after hilarious scene rolls by, and there's hardly a dull moment. "Duck Soup" see's the president of Freedonia, Rufus T. Firefly (Groucho) declaring war on Sylvania, with Chicolini (Chico) and Pinky (Harpo) as spies.

Seeing as how the American Film Institute declared "Duck Soup" as the fifth funniest move ever made, it's hard to believe that it bombed when it was first released.

Anyhow, "Duck Soup" is an absolutely hilarious film. Full of excellent dialogue and very clever humour, it will have you in stitches everytime.

Summary: The film that makes me Marxist
Review: Duck soup, Horse Feather and A Night at the Opera are the best of Marx Brothers' film that turn me a devoted Marxist.

Especially Duck Soup which perhaps is the best Marx Brother film. The jokes are good. There are many classic lines. But the best I like Duck Soup is its sense of anarchy - that government and war are silly.

It is also the film that the Marx Brothers are at their peak, especially Harpo who is just magical - the scene when he answered phone call with all kind of odd instruments and the mirror scene are just memorable.

A classic without a doubt. Buy the video and enjoy the pure form of Marxism, comrade, and free yourself from the chain of capitalism.

Summary: Watch it!
Review: What can be said that hasn't already been said. Truly the best Marx Brothers movie. A brilliant combination of their typical humor while still poking with satire at government and it's functions. Truly war, in the able hands of the Marx group, becomes hilarious.

As always, Groucho manages to be hysterical. Chico is quite funny and Harpo pratfalls. Zeppo is always excellent as what he was: straight man. And speaking of that, the always marvelous Margeret Dumont is also here. In my mind, she was almost as much a part of a Marx brothers comedy as the brothers were.

Some brilliant sequences include, the spoof of thirties musicals(We're Going to War), the battle sequences, Harpo and Chico working over the salesman, the trial scenes, and one of the funniest scenes ever filmed: the brilliant mirror routine. I was rolling on my back, holding my stomach with tears streaming down my cheeks before they were done. In short, one of the funniest movies ever made. Watch it now!

Summary: Nothing much to add about this masterpiece!
Review: It's downright disturbing how "Duck Soup" ultimately bombed in the theaters upon it's initial release. Over half a century later, new audiences have finally realized the sheer brilliance and downright brutal nature this film has to offer. It is perhaps one of the few Marx Bros. films that has aged little regarding it's universal message and heart-felt presentation, recognizing themes of oppression, anti-war ideals, injustice, greed, etc. and injecting such with biting humor. In addition, "Duck Soup" offers no serious romantic subplots or musical interludes, just pure comedy!

From the production aspect, Duck Soup also shines. Fantastic, albiet long dolly sequences of physical and verbal comedy spread throughout the work never miss a beat. Such scenes, like the mirror sequence, must have been hell on the crew as well as the actors, and the final result is a very entertaining, very majestic classic which parallel's even the finest pictures regardless of genre. As I have been known to say, "Well's Citizen Kane, Brunuel's Un Chein Andalou, and McCarey's Duck Soup". . . Wonderous!

Summary: The funniest men ever in one of their funniest movies
Review: Duck Soup was ranked number 5 in the AFI's top 100 funniest films of all time and the rating was well deserved. The humor ranges from slap stick (the lemonade stand and the mirror scenes to name just two) to razor sharp verbal abuse among the players. (Margaret: I sponsored your appointment because I feel you are the most able statesman in all Freedonia. Groucho: Well, that covers a lot of ground, Say, you cover a lot of ground yourself. Your better beat it, I hear they're gonna tear you down and put up an office building where you're standing. And there is more - Groucho: I can see you now, bending over a hot stove, only I can't see the stove! Groucho: "I'm fighting for your honor, which is more than I can say you've ever done!

Unlike many "modern day" comedies, with the Marx Brothers, you actually have to pay attention to get the gags. They use word play better than anyone before or since (although Woody Allen in Annie Hall comes close). A perfect night of fun for me would be Duck Soup, Night at the Opera (you can fast forward through the musical scenes) and Horse Feathers. Earlier movies like Animal Crackers and The Coconuts were basically filmed plays and, for me, later ones lacked the energy of these three.

This is a DVD that deserves to be in your collection and one you will enjoy for years to come. All Hail Freedonia, land of the brave and free and funny!

Summary: The Absolute Worst!!
Review: This movie, its the worst movie that i have probably ever seen, not one laugh threw the whole thing..alot of dull humor that didnt even make sense..i recommend no one to buy this piece... please save ur $2 dollars that this movie is really worth.

Summary: A great bargain -- what a pair of classics!
Review: "Animal Crackers" is hysterical, with classic bits you'll recognize. It's a must-see if only to know the foundations of Marx Brothers (and therefore American) humor. But look out for the bad acting and bad musical numbers. The best part is when Groucho interacts with Margaret Dumont. My favorite: the Captain Spaulding song.

As for "Duck Soup," it's the last third that's the classic part. If you're a comedy film buff, you simply must see this one. You'll recognize how this film had so much effect on so many others that followed. The hilarious skits don't have much to do with each other, but who cares? And it was nice to see the handsome Zeppo.

Summary: The Best Political Satire of All Time
Review: I mean it. Bar none. I am not a huge fan of the Marx's, but this film is certainly their best (closely followed by "A Night at the Opera"). Basically, dictator of postage-stamp sized Freedonia, Rufus T. Firefly (Groucho) declairs war on neighbouring Sylvania without good reason at all, and havoc ensues. It's perfectly simple, but at the same time is pretty accurate when you think about how most wars start. You may feel uncomfortable the first time. This movie pulls no punches when it comes to nasty insult based humour. However, it grows on you something shocking. The brothers knock off just the right mix of slapstick (Harpo), stupidity (Chico), smart-alec (Groucho) and straight (Zeppo), that you can't help but keep laughing all the way through the film's short 70 or so minutes. My favourite sequence? The Mirror scene of course! But I won't spoil things here. If you're a fan of comedy, that is ANY sort of comedy, you owe it to yourself to own this movie. It features enough gags for six features, but one this good is enough. My only minor quibble is that some of the musical numbers have lost their edge with time, and now seem contrived and out of place.
