Summary: Dearest Warner Bros. ...
Review: As you know WB, you are the worst production company on the DVD market, and this move is the biggest error of your ongoing pathetic marketing trend.

Fans demand a release of the ENTIRE Merrie Melodies & Looney Tunes collection in one boxed collection. Not just mini-sets and not by character only.

You wasted so much time getting THIS out, how much longer until you get your act together? You have ruined so many DVD releases in the past, that I was hoping you would have learned your lesson by now. I actually have avoided all WB releases since the South Park stupidity you pulled. But with this, I have no choice. Let's face it, without Bugs Bunny, you'd be out of a job.

Do something right for a change, WB. Release the entire classic collection in a boxed set.

PS: You can fit 6 hours of material on one DVD so play with us.

Summary: Long Awaited DVD - Hopefully, uncut and uncensored
Review: I am ecstatic. Finally these works - masterpieces of laugh-out-loud, satirical commentary for their day - will be available.

May I be so bold as to speak for Looney Tunes fans around the world and ask that (eventually) the complete collection be released in this format. And PLEASE - Include those which have been considered "politically incorrect" or "too violent" or "insensitive" - and include them uncut and uncensored.

Again, these cartoons are so entertaining and (without trying to over analyze them) sometimes a satiracal statement on the political and socio-economic environment of the day. But if not for that reason, then simply because I laugh until I cry when viewing the "original".

Thank you very much for making these available.

Summary: I need these cartoons bad on dvd!
Review: Finally Bugs Bunny animated shorts on dvd. I'm happy that they are putting some of these shorts on dvd and showing them uncut. However I have seen some of the EARLIER cartoons on the Cartoon Network (one is with a girl named red riding hood) that were laugh out funny. They need to put the earliest cartoons out on DVD. If Warner Brothers is smart they would restore those and put them out as well. I plan to preorder this set in September, and I'm an adult by the way. THESE CARTOONS ARE FOR EVERYONE NOT JUST KIDS. I plan to buy this set to let Warner Brothers know I want all the Warner Brothers shorts out including the earlier ones. The Walt Disney Shorts were good, but they'll NEVER be as funny as Looney Tunes. Some of them will make you laugh till you cry. You have been warned!

Summary: Too much missing for 5 stars
Review: After browsing and learning all 56 titles, there is a sense of disappointment. Where's "What's Opera, Doc?"? Shameful omission. Where's the other 2/3 of the Trilogy ("Rabbit Fire" and "Duck! Rabbit! Duck!") to go with "Rabbit Seasoning"? Classics. Where are the many Road Runner titles? *sigh* Yes, I will probably buy this when it comes out; but it only has 5 of my personal "Top 10". I salute the release, but ... Cartoon Network, bring back "June Bugs"!

Summary: A Stellar Preservation
Review: I must say as the others that classic animation needs to be cemented in DVD as the original film fades even more with each passing day. As Disney is continuing to do, I am very pleased Warner Bros. is choosing to take landmark icons such as Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, and Porky Pig and place them on a solid format that will stand the test of time. I hope that this collection sells very well and only more will follow. This is animation at it's finest--truly the best cartoons ever made.

Summary: Overture. Curtain. Lights. On With DVD, This is It!
Review: Here it is. At last. After waiting five years since the arrival of DVD to the home entertainment market for Bugs Bunny and company to appear on shiny disc in an official R1 North American release from Warner Bros., the first wave of Looney Tunes DVDs has arrived.

I could quibble with the choice of cartoons on these discs. Why not the two most noteworthy entries in the Tweety series, "Birds Anonymous" (Oscar winner) and "Hyde and Go Tweet" (one of the first Tweetys to be released on VHS), instead of the earlier, more routine and already on R2 DVD Tweeties included here? Neither cartoon was released in the I LOVE TWEETY trio of DVDs released in Japan. For that matter, why so few cartoons from the post-1955 period? The VHS releases over the years always found a good mix of cartoons from across the many decades output of Warner Bros. cartoons. Must admit to being underwhelmed at the number of cartoons (56; 58 if we include the 2 bonus cartoons, "Blooper Bunny" abd "Bosko the Talk-ink Kid") in the set, when the Golden Age of Looney Tunes laserdisc sets had much fewer cartoons to choose from (pre-1948 color cartoons only) but contained more than 70 cartoons per volume. And I'd have preferred character-specific discs for each personality rather than a hodge-podge such as we see here on two of the four discs. Plus, rhe prospect of only one box set of some 50 cartoons per year is also quite disappointing as I'll likely be pushing up daisies by the time many of my most esteemed but sadly less popular cartoons (including the Friz Freleng-Warren Foster Jekyll & Hyde "trilogy") finally (if ever) see DVD release.

All quibbles aside, I must, absolutely must buy this set. The extra features alone are incentive enough. Audio commentaries, Bugs Bunny TV show stage scenes, featurettes on underrated directors Friz Freleng and Robert McKimson, a whole Toonheads episode on "Lost Cartoons", and much, much more. And really, many of the cartoons in this set are excellent choices for DVD, especially "Bully For Bugs", "Rabbit of Seville", "Long Haired Hare", "What's Up, Doc?", "Duck Dodgers in the 24 1/2th Century". "Rabbit Seasoning", "Bugs and Thugs", "Canary Row", "Putty Tat Trouble", "Fast and Furry-ous", "Speedy Gonzales", "Foghorn Leghorn", "Scaredy Cat", "Kit For Cat", and many more. And some surprise cartoons that never were released on videotape or laserdisc, namely "Porky Chops" and "A Broken Leghorn". Much effort has clearly been taken to ensure that every character (including Taz and Marvin Martian) is represented in this collection, and while I would have hoped for a more comprehensive release, along the lines of the 24 Karat Golden Jubilee collection on VHS in 1985 (note that "One Froggy Evening" and "What's Opera, Doc?" are not in this DVD set) with character- specific compliations and director tributes, this is still an admirable attempt to begin a long-lasting DVD franchise for Bugs and the gang. And who knows, Warner may release the Jekyll-Hyde caeroons as extras on the Spencer Tracy-Fredric March Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde DVD planned for January 6, 2004. Several cartoons not in this box set are already being released as bonuses on other classic movie DVDs (namely Yankee Doodle Dandy, The Adventures of Robin Hood, and The Treasure of the Sierra Madre).

Besides, sales of this DVD set are crucial to determining whether
more boxed sets will follow. Which makes it imperative that all fans of classic Warner Bros. animation buy this set and any and all sets to follow.

Summary: Essential
Review: This is the one to buy. Don't buy the other Looney Tunes DVD's. This is the real stuff. Classic cartoons - UNCUT and RESTORED. The bonus features alone make this worth your money. Buy this Looney Tunes DVD and this only. Do NOT buy the other ones -- they are no good. This one is worth your money, whether you are a casual fan wanting to learn more about these wonderful cartoons or an animation buff.

Summary: Finally, The Looney Tunes in DVD!!
Review: The animation fans out there (like me!) are very pleased to hear that the LT finally will arrive to DVD in October 28

The only question in the air is... the animated shorts are REALLY uncensored? The press release form Warner Home Video claims that the shorts are "uncut", but who knows... (it's not the same "uncut" than "uncensored"; if you don't believe me, ask the "Fantasia" DVD (with the "UNCUT" version, with the pastoral scene censored))

The only flaw that i notice in this collection is that, apparently, the shorts are not chronological (unlike the Walt Disney Treasures)...

I hope that in some years, WB would release the early LT in DVD in all their B&W glory, (Foxy, Bosko, Buddy, even the B&W Porky shorts) and not only the "modern technicolor" LT.

Buy this collection instead of the "Premiere collection", only in this way, WB will be pleased to release this collection the following years

Summary: Just Get It
Review: They've given me approximately 300 words to review Looney Tunes: The Golden Collection 4-disc DVD collection of classic Warner Brothers cartoons, but I could do it in 1/100th of the verbiage-just get it!

Whether you're a casual fan of Warner Brothers stable of cartoon crazies or a rabid die hard animation maniac, you need this set in your DVD library. It is quite simply the best collection of animated shorts that have been released in the format.

Spread across four discs are 56 beautifully restored animated shorts featuring Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Porky Pig, Speedy Gonzalez and many other favorites from the Warner Brothers Studio's stable of characters. The shorts include such classics as "Rabbit of Seville", "Baseball Bugs," "Duck Amuck," Duck Dogers in the 24 1/2th Century," "Bugs Bunny and the Three Bears," "The Foghorn Leghorn" and the first appearance of Speedy Gonzalez in his eponymously named short.

The restoration work on these cartoons is amazing. The line art is crisp and sharp and colors pop off the screen. In addition, the set is decked out with a generous selection of extras including several documentaries, stills galleries, pencil tests and more. Twenty-six of the shorts have commentary tracks from the likes of animation historians Jerry Beck, Michael Barrier and Greg Ford, which fill in many behind-the-scenes details about the cartoons' creation. The glimpses of some of the wartime cartoons in the documentaries are enough to make you want more.

Even with the lavishness of the set, there are a few nits to be picked. Everyone will have a favorite cartoon or two that didn't make it onto the set. The selected shorts are weighted towards director Jones, who is represented by almost half of the set's 56 cartoons. Sadly, not one of Tex Avery's 60 some cartoons have made this set. The year range of the selected cartoons is a little narrow with all but ten produced between 1948 and 1953. Among the documentaries I would have liked to see more about Warner's other great vocal talents like Elmer Fudd's original voice Arthur Q. Bryan, Bea Benaderet, who provided the voices for Ma Bear, Witch Hazel and Granny, and June Foray, who wound up taking over many of Benaderet's roles in the mid-`50s and others.

Fortunately, Warner has stated that they're committed to the restoration of their entire cartoon catalog and eventual release on DVD. So don't worry, this isn't all, folks!
