Summary: Kill The Wabbit
Review: To the customer regarding the Wagnerian Opera: Sounds as if you're looking for "Kill The Wabbit", which is a now-banned episode. Since everyone's so thin-skinned these days, everything's gotta be watered-down or banned so it won't (hopefully) offend anyone. Blecch !!!

I'd love to have a separate collection of all the banned material, in its original form, but of course digitally remastered to bring out the best. There were some darn good episodes in those days. And I'm sure they're still floating around somewhere.

But it's about time this collection came out. All the good LT stuff is now on Boomerang! which I can't get in my area, and we have to settle for all those new age anime shows on Cartoon Network, which have no real plot lines nor story IMO. There's just SO FAR one can go with cartoons before they mess them up.

However, for what this set has, it's great, and I will be getting it soon !!!

Summary: This is a stop gap release.
Review: Why does WB's marketing department think that a Best of needs releasing before investing in series releases?

They pulled this same stunt with Friends.

Fox, universal, Sony, Disney, A/E, Bravo, HBO and others have had NO remorse in selling season box sets of their series. Only WB thinks that they need to "test" the waters with EVERY big box set they make.

What is needed here is a CHRONOLOGICAL release of the shorts.
Do that. Please.
I would have rather never had these shorts be released than to deal with this garbage. I hope it sells well enough to justify a full release on DVD of everything.

WB did this same junk with TOM and JERRY back in 1999, and there's NOTHING here yet. I had to go buy compilations from JAPAN to get T&J. Why????

Buy it if you have kids and you want them to see good cartoons.
If you're an animation fan/collector, hold off... Don't be fooled that this is what you need.

And We need some TEX AVERY TOO!!!!!

Summary: I will probably buy it....but.....
Review: This collection looks to be really good. I will shell out the money for it just because I really like watching the Looney Tunes cartoons whenever they are on tv and it will be nice to not have to wait anymore. However, one of the best episodes is missing. Where is the one with Elmer and Bugs playing out the Wagnerian Opera???! That particular episode is one of the best ever made...and it seems a little disheartening that it isn't included in this set (unless it is under some really obscure title!). Hope they will rectify this on the next volume!

Summary: Looks like a GREAT collection BUT a horrible cover!
Review: Finally! The classic WB cartoons BUT what was MODERN DAY WARNER BROTHERS thinking with this cover? Classic cartoons and bad airbrushed art do not mix well. They should have used some of the original classic art by BOB CLAMPETT, CHUCK JONES, etc. DISNEY makes this same mistake with every release they do of their classics and if they had their way...they would re-do all the films in CGI? THANKS for a GREAT collection of TUNES and EXTRAS Jerry Beck!

Summary: THE BEST ANIMATION RELEASE IN YEARS! ...WANNA KNOW WHY?
Review: Well... these are (some of) the best animation films ever made. Along with the "Walt Disney Treasure series" cartoon fans (like me) are now starting to have their prayers answered. Obviously, there are many other films missing from this collection (it seems that "Birds Anonymous" and "What's Opera, Doc?" are not in it) but I am sure WB is planning to continue this collection and keep releasing part 2, part 3 and so on. I just hope the success of this release will send them this message...

The films in this collection show the great animation style developed by Warner Bros. (a style very different from, for example, Walt Disney). While Disney's genius was poetic, Looney Tunes was fast parody and mock. While Disney was expensive, Looney Tunes were cheaper. While Disney's Silly Symphonies were dreamy and noble, looney Tunes were sassy and down-to-Earth. Its characters have a dark personality and a (many times) violent sense of humour that drives you off the wall with sheer laughter.

Let's not forget the true geniuses behind all this: Friz Freleng, Chuck Jones, Robert McKimson, Tex Avery, Bob Clampett (and other directors); the voices by the great Mel Blanc; the music by the great Carl Stalling - don't forget that those were times when they had an entire orchestra behind the films.

Made 50 years ago, those films are miles above anything that we make today. Of course today there are great animation works... but they are an exception... - by then they were the rule! The importance of Looney Tunes to Film History is tremendous as it influenced many modern film makers all around the world. It is fascinating to see that today's animation (be it good or bad) owes a lot to these films. In fact, I believe they were even more influential than Disney.

I JUST HOPE WARNER BROS. WILL KEEP RELEASING PART 2, PART 3... AND SO ON... OF THIS COLLECTION!!!

These are films to keep and watch over and over. Buy it to your kids (and yourself) and be amazed!

Summary: This is the real deal!
Review: This is it! The night of nights! Finally, 56 digitally restored COMPLETE classic WB cartoons released on DVD. That's right....these cartoons will be completely uncut and restored. I can assure you that they'll look more vivid and beautiful than you've ever seen them before.

And to answer the question about how we know these facts when it's not even out yet? Simple. The person who helped with selecting the cartoons and restoring them told many of us!

Summary: THIS is the version you need to buy!
Review: Forget the "Premiere Collection." This 4 disc set is loaded with extras that the Premiere Collection doesn't have. All of the cartoons are uncut and digitally remastered. Among the extras -- commentaries by Jerry Beck, Mike Barrier (compiled from his rare audio interviews with animators), Greg Ford, and Stan Freeberg, interviews, isolated music tracks, and documentaries. The collection of cartoons is somewhat of a "Best of," but if this set sells well, we're bound to see more volumes with different cartoons that are not so well known. Although the cover art is a little cheesy looking, who cares? And, contrary to what the previous reviewer said, (the person who gave it 1 star) all of the cartoons that have been anounced to be on this set ARE on this set. Summary: Technicolor doesn't fade - cheap video does
Review: Since a majority of Looney Tunes cartoons were shot in Technicolor, there's no reason to fear that the color will fade. I have seen 60 year old Bugs Bunny cartoons that dazzle the eye far better than today's animation. The reason so many of these cartoons look crummy on TV is ancient video transfers that were poorly supervised.

That said, this is an amazing first round of a collection. Of course it doesn't have the essential 56 cartoons since there will be more boxsets on the way. The Boys From Termite Terrace will be great to see - especially since a VHS copy of the hour long docu cost as much as this 4 DVD set.

Summary: why only one star? BECAUSE IT ISN'T OUT YET!!!!
Review: Why? Why do people do this? This box set isn't going to be released for another two months. All of these "reviews" are bogus. I'm sure when it does come out it will be wonderful. However, I'm only going to post a review after having seen it. Seem fair? By the way, one of the real problems with pre-reviews is misinformation. In one of these, you've got someone saying that "What's Opera Doc?" is NOT in the collection, and in another someone says not only is "What's Opera Doc?" included but it also had audio commentary. If you're curious, after searching it on google, it appears that the former is correct.
Give it a rest people sheesh.
