Summary: Relax People...
Review: These are 56 solid cartoons from Warners Brothers. I, for one, am happy with having Bugs Bunny et al on DVD, period. Keep in mind that there are over 1,000 cartoons to pick from. At this rate, we get a box set every year for the next 18 years. Let's not gripe about which ones are not here. Let's be happy with these and look forward to future releases. After all, if all the best were in this box set, would you buy any more?

Summary: Stop steaming my tail!
Review: Reading through these many praise and complaint filled reviews, one thing is obvious. No matter what Warner Bros. released, someone would complain. If every short, restored to perfection, had been included in a set sold for $50.00--someone would whine about having to buy a trunk full of discs when all they really wanted was cartoons X, Y and Z.And what's with all the reverence for the old "GOLDEN AGE OF LOONEY TUNES" laser disc sets. While wonderful (and I do own them all), they are far from a "definitive" collection. Those multiple sets were not released simultaneously. The first set did not contain all the best or favorite shorts. None of the beloved classics from the 50's were available for those collections. And although individual volumes contained approximately 72 cartoons--each was priced around $125.00!!! The simple fact is that Looney Tunes shorts have never looked better or been more affordable than on this new DVD collection. And there's more to come! If you can't find joy and pleasure in that...Well, then I'd hate to be you.

Summary: Looney, Tuney and Missing some valuable parts
Review: Okay, I picked up this addtion (why bother with the rest since they are condensed versions of this one). I was shocked when first I noted that NONE of the cartoons are listed on the back of the packaging. So you are in for a surprise when you finaly open it up. That's when I noticed that some of my favorite cartoons I'd expect to be on here, are not! I think that's a bit misleading on the WB's part. I would have like to have known that features like "One Froggy Evening" & "What's Opera Doc" are missing from this collection.
I would still purchace it for classics like "Rabbit of Seville" and "Rabbit Seasoning" (One of the all time greatest Daffy/Bugs battles). It was just such a let down to open it up and search to find other classics absent. I read recently that WB is planning more DVD's in the coming years...great, but I think it's bogus they are dragging it out.

Summary: Don't Listen to the Whiners!!
Review: This is a great collection of some of the very best of Looney Tunes. There were over 1100 cartoons to choose from so not everyone's favorite is going to be included but there are some really great ones here and every one of them is worth having. I now start off each movie night with a great cartoon! If you love Bugs, Daffy, Porky, Foghorn and the rest of the Looney Tunes gang, don't listen to the whiners here... this is a must have. Can't wait for the next set in the collection to come out!

Summary: Quit Cryin', Doc!!
Review: For those of you who are unhappy with the selection of cartoons that Warner Brothers placed in this 4 DVD set, for God's sake, QUIT COMPLAINING!!!! I'd be willing to bet that NO one forced you to buy this set with a gun to your head, meaning that you knew for ages before this past Tuesday's release what was included in this collection. There are so MANY, MANY excellent cartoons that Warner Brothers produced over the years that they couldn't POSSIBLY include them in their entirety on one set. Am I bummed that "What's Opera, Doc?" wasn't included? Yes. But the bottom line is that what's IN the set is wonderful fun, and you all KNOW that there will be future releases that will include other gems. My suggestion is that you quit wasting time complaining over something that's a done deal, enjoy the set for what it is (excellent comedy & artistry!) and look forward with eagerness to the next set release. C'mon and admit it: what's on this initial set is great stuff.....so deal with it!!

Summary: Close but no carrot...
Review: I was overjoyed at first when I heard of the imminent release of this box set. Looney Tunes fans have waited years for the release of these classic shorts on DVD. But alas there are problems. There are not enough A+ level shorts included in this set, the running time is a bit short for a 4 volume set and the price is a bit high. This set only contains 6.5 hours of cartoons, the rest of the disks are padded with bonus features. I am not a big fan of bonus features and I would have much rather seen them add more shorts to the collection. 56 cartoons for a 4 volume set is an unacceptable number. Warner Bros. has stated they will release more sets on an annual basis as the original films are cleaned up for digital transfer. But those fans who own the 5 Volume "GOLDEN AGE OF LOONEY TUNES" laserdisc set may have something to say about that. The laserdisc set contains about 340 shorts in good digital quality and will continue to be regarded as the "definitive" set of Warner Bros. golden age of cartoons. My dissatifaction with this set started when I noticed my personal favorite "Gorilla My Dreams" was not included in this set. This set may be good for casual fans but for real Looney Tunes fans this box set comes up two carrots short.

Summary: What is wrong with people???
Review: People will just complain about EVERYTHING! No one is ever happy...Every review complains that "Whats Opera Doc" and "One Froggy Evening" wasnt included. If those are the only 2 cartoons you like you are not a fan. "Whats Opera Doc" isnt even that good of a cartoon! There are PLENTY of classics not included, but that makes me look forward for the future releases. Dont these people realize that? There are over 1000 cartoons to choose from. BE GLAD THEY EVEN PUT SOME ON DVD!!! AND STOP COMPLAINING ALREADY!!!!! Just one moe thing...I hope they do the same thing with the MGM cartoons, Like Tom & Jerry and all the great Tex Avery shorts. Now THAT will be AMAZING!!!

Summary: If you like the history of WB animation, get this set now!!!
Review: Instead of looking at the 'toons themselves (The line up is excellent, and gives me something to look forward to - See the bottom of the review), I'll look at the extras included in the Golden Collection. One word sums it up- FANTASTIC! I thought that the "Behind The Tunes" section would be a cheap send-up of VH1's "Behind the Music" Series, but I was wrong, much to my suprise and delight! Interviews with former (Bill Melendez (Peanuts Specials - Worked with McKimson & Freling), Art Leonardi (Tiny Toons - Worked with Freling), Willie Ito (Hanna-Barbera - Worked as a tweener, AFAIK)) and present (Eric Goldberg (Animation Director- Looney Tunes: Back in Action, Fantasia 2000 - Rhaposody in Blue, Carnival of the Animals, Aladdin), Don Hahn (The Lion King - Director) animators, Mel Blanc's son, Daughters of Friz Freling, Chuck Jones and Bob Clampett, Animation Historians Jerry Beck (Cartoonresearch.com) and Leonard Maltin (Entertainment Tonight, Of Mice and Magic), Director Joe Dante (Director, LT:BiA), Voice Talent Joe Alaskey (Tiny Toons, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Duck Dogers, LT:BiA), talking about the history of each character. The Audio commentary from Mike Barrier and his interviews over the years was also terrific (Listen to Chuck Jones' interview during Drip-Along Daffy, or Ben Washam's interview during Duck Amuck). John Canemaker's "Boys From Termite Terrace" 2-part documentary is also included, and this is only in the first 2 disks! I can't wait for Volume 2, or 3, and so-on or, maybe the same treatment for Tom and Jerry, or Tex Avery's MGM Toons. (Are you listening, Time Warner?)

Summary: SWEET!!!!
Review: This is the best. I was originally going to buy the premire collection, but I saw this and bought it instead. The toons in this set are great, now that I am older, I understand the jokes that Blanc made. I was watching it with my fiance, and we were both laughing like little kids would. I just have one question, if someone could get back to me on this; is there more original looney tunes? If there is (which I think there are), does anyone know when they come out? Anyway, buy this set, it's worth the money you'll pay for it. Plus this is great for kids, they love it!

Summary: No Complaints Here!
Review: I was shocked to read a story on a news website that said fans were upset with this DVD release because of what it didn't contain. My response is: Have people lost their minds!? This collection of Looney Tunes cartoons is fantastic! And for all those people devastated that their favorite shorts aren't found on this set - patience! Warner Bros. has already announced that many, many more of these wonderful sets are in the works. Complaining and not buying this incredible set is a really good way to make sure no more are released in the future. The video on these DVD's is amazing. The cartoons have been digitally cleaned up and remastered. Well done, Warner Bros. Don't forget the slew of extras included on this set. Excellent documentaries, audio commentaries on several shorts, and featurettes abound. Complaining because a handful of cartoons aren't on this set is insane. Pick up this collection - you won't be disappointed. And Warner Bros. - keep up the great work! For every complaint out there, there's 1,000 very, very satisfied customers.
