Summary: terrible movie, pedestrian books too
Review: I look at it as a film lover and film student. The direction was passive, the source material and script was shoddy and poorly dramatized. There is not one remarkable shot in the movie...hell, there isn't even a shot that seems like it means anything. It's as if the director just put the camera in front of them and said action, without any thought of it. The acting was bad...I mean, come on, Kirk Cameron? He's not exactly a master thespian and he gets top billing. The movie is simply a thinly veiled attempt at mass conversion. What happened to the "good" old days, where the great art came from christianity and other religions? I'd like to give this movie 0 stars, but that won't work on this site.

Summary: as bad as it gets
Review: this is a white boy protestant-christian fundamentalist movie...the whole story is a joke....its recycled elements from Stephen Kings Langoliers...from Devils Advocate and from other movies. Then it goes on to show its right wing agenda by showing Israel as a victim, the UN as a demonic entity (even the John Birch society doesnt go that far), and people of other cultures as colaborators with the 'devil' (Arabs, East Indians etc.) The acting is some of the worse i have ever seen in my life and everything else is so low budget that i dont know wether to laugh out loud or just plain out cry. I've seen some bad movies in my life but this one takes the grand prize. I would rather watch a Rob Scnider movie..i think it would make more sense.

Summary: A Great Movie
Review: I guess I have a problem with the Amazon reviewer (Mark Englehart). From his review, it appears that he did not watch the movie in order to write an unbiased review, rather he went in with some pre-conceived notions. Again, this is the appearance, and I could be wrong. However, he uses terms such as a "passable, occasionally compelling thriller." Well, it wasn't meant to be a "thriller." And, although with limited resources, one would not expect special effects resembling something put out by ILM, it is far more than "passable." I also wonder how much effort was put into the review when Hattie's last name is called "Daniels" in the review -- her last name is "Durham." This film has defined the state of the art in its genre and is a very good film. Further, it actually has a plot and good acting. Many of the mainline films coming out are mostly special effects and storyline and acting seems to be after-thoughts. Englebert talks about a "lack of action." Do movies now have to be non-stop action without any acting like Rayford's "crises of faith?" Englebert states that the movie resembles something from cable TV rather than the latest James Bond film. Again, there were no doubt budgetary limitations, but I would put the acting and storyline light years ahead of any of the recent Bond films. Englebert complains about character introductions (all four of them I guess). What's wrong with introducing characters? At least they are fully fleshed out. Will he have the same disdain for character introductions when "Fellowship of the Ring" comes out in December and breaks every box office record? I don't thinks so. Anyway, while not a great film, it was definitely very good and well worth seeing.

Summary: Good Movie
Review: Obviously I have been on this planet for more than 12 months, but I was not born yesterday, and in my experience, this is an exeptable movie.

I was surprised at the quality, editing, "believability" (good job actors), and the script/plot's ability to parellel the original book. Much, much better than the Omega code. Both thoughtful and entertaining, this movie is free of explitives and "adult themes", and has enough special effects to keep your finger off the fast forward button. To those who would place this film under the label of "propaganda", remember, you do have the ability to view this flick as just another story, it presents some interesting ideas and situations you might want to consider. For a change, this is a type of science fiction that incorperates the idea of a highly personal God. It is hard, at present to find the incorperation of a God,let alone the idea of a personal God, in any of the pictures released from Hollywood. In fact, one could understand this as an attempt to exclude the topic of "God" entirely. I believe this could also be looked upon as propaganda. Propaganda does not have to be blatant to be there. Challenge yourself to open your mind to the possibilies, and deside for yourself with what you agree and disagree. Do not hide behind the justification that "its purpose is to brain wash me". My friends and I believe this movie to be a good addition to your video library.

Summary: A Waste of Thought
Review: Some people ask me what my problem with Christians is, my answer, PROPOGANDA. Stop praising tools to scare other religions into your thought, because, personally, I don't think I know any christians who enjoy any New Age or "Pagan" religions stealing their followers away from them. Besides the fact that this movie is pure propoganda, it's also terrible. THANKS

Summary: A Must-have!
Review: A great movie! I have read the series, and I always imagined what it would look like on big screen. Finally, I know. The effects are great. The sound of explosions... marvelous. And beyond anything, I'm glad that it is not region protected, since I'm in region 2. Well, I know it claims to be region 1 protected, but somehow it plays fine with my region 2-only DVD player. Or maybe I'm just lucky, I don't know. Anyway, it's a must-have!

Summary: Stephen King did it better
Review: This movie and the books it is baesd on are both stolen from Stephen King's novella, "The Langoliers", and his novel "The Stand." But i guess the people who like this boring stuff believe that is it okay to plagurize good writing to get a "message" across. Religous zealots, this is the movie for you!! Unless of, you understand the bible. People with independant minds beware!

Summary: I got what I expected
Review: I didn't expect a "A" film when I purchased this DVD, so I was not dissapointed as I see that other reviewers were. This was a good start to what will hopefully be an extensive series.
