Summary: Hilarious!!
Review: Ok, this has got to be one of Disney's best!! It doesn't follow the usual disney "formula" but it's a refreshing change! And for once, the main character is the one who makes the show! Everyone of all ages will love this movie. I really enjoyed it, and I'd recommend it to anyone! ;-)

Summary: The funniest Disney movie to date! An instant classic!
Review: I was going to see the movie in the theater but when I heard about all the changes that were made to the story, the music, the style, and the title over the past few years, I figured it couldn't be all that special. When my copy arrived on DVD I was expecting another simple buddy-buddy movie in the Disney tradition but nothing more. I could not have been more wrong. What I saw had me glued to the screen and sent me into convulsive laughing fits from start to finish. The story is incredibly simple but very endearing. The fact that there are only four primary characters does nothing to take away from the film itself since each are developed so well with such distinct personalities. David Spade, Eartha Kitt, Patrick Warburton, and John Goodman were all amazing and the voice acting made everything seem so spontaneous. The animation is very simple and while some have a problem with it I think the style and the color are actually very beautiful which complements the story perfectly--I applaud Disney for trying something new. There aren't any songs that you'll be humming at the end of the movie since there are no musical numbers (except for the Tom Jones song at the beginning which I didn't like, and the Sting song at the end which I did enjoy) but that is more than made up for by the humor and entertainment value throughout. In terms of comedy, this is easily the funniest Disney movie ever and is even up there with classic live-action comedies, even if it is only a cartoon. Some of the jokes had me laughing so hard I had to pause the DVD to keep from missing anything. And the timing, placement, and delivery of this humor was perfect, so it didn't leave you bored for long stretches. Because of this there's great replay value in the disc. My only complaint was that I wanted a third disc of extras. This is a different type of Disney movie, but different is certainly not a bad thing. While the title may leave you uninterested make sure you give the film a chance. After watching it you'll realize this is one of the best, funniest, and most underrated Disney films ever made.

Summary: Go on wich yoh bad self!
Review: I am a major anti-Disney consumer. With the exception of Alladin and the Lion King, I literally HATE Disney films. Now I have a third exception to add to my list of great exceptions. The Emperor's New Groove is just A LOT of fun and given the fact I purchased the two disc set I am very pleased to say the DVD is outstanding! I have to respond to a comment one of the previous reviewers shared about widescreen and full screen formats and why they are not available for most DVD's. In time, TV's are going to radically change. Although VHS technology is still being used, it's definitely on it's way out the door with the ever-advancing technology to allow people to "burn" their own CD's and eventually DVD's. Full screen format is considered in the technical age, well, ANCIENT! It's a very old-style of viewing that has long been asked to leave the room. However, most people have not taken to the wide screen format in America like they have in Europe and Asia. You go to any other country, you will see the wide screen format of TV's being used and it's very commonplace. America just takes forever to catch on to the technology and to bring the price of this technology down to levels where "everyone" can purchase it. If you love full screen format, don't buy a DVD player since most DVD's will be released only in widescreen format until you can afford a widescreen TV or deal with the black bars on the top and bottom of your screen. This technology isn't going away-don't beat em, join em!

Summary: Why widescreen, why not spanish subtitles?
Review: We do not own a widescreen tv. Millions of us do not own a widescreen tv, so why limit this set or the original DVD to a widescreen format? Well, Disney did. It had been converted for the VHS tape, so why not include both the widescreen and television formats??? Also, the VHS has a dubbed and subtitiled version, why wasn't that version included with the DVD. Many other DVD's include Spanish versions or subtitles, as well as both formats. I was very disappointed that Walt Disney decided to only go with the widescreen version and only French subtitles. Very disappointed--I will not buy the DVD now. Also, unless you have low expectations, do not get too excited over the actual movie. Towards the end the animators became tired, and resorted to a Looney tunes crayola map of the adventure, then slapped on an ending. The jokes were good, as was the casting and delivery. The animation....suffered. And the research invested was wasted on this cheaply animated and edited, slapped-together goofy film. I loved the music and the first half of the movie, but .... the ending lacked continuity. Over-all, my advice is to wait for a better version. This is not worth the effort.

Summary: Pure fun
Review: This is the most pure fun I've had watching a Disney cartoon in a long time. Too bad that the rather misleading title (it sounds like some kind of rapper music video) kept it from being the big hit it deserved to be in theaters, but the video is wonderful, and something that adults really will enjoy as much as kids. It thankfully lacks the medicinal taste that even the better Disney cartoons (i.e., "Mulan") have had over the past few years; there's a moral, to be sure, but it isn't heavy handed and we aren't beaten over the head with it.

The cast is uniformly terrific; it is obvious that the actors had a ball playing their roles, particularly the divine Eartha Kitt as the deliciously nasty Yzma. The supporting characters are also a delight, especially Pacha's mouthy, precocious kids and sensible wife (Wendie Malick, whose trademark raised-eyebrow, world-weary patience comes through splendidly).

There are so many sublime side gags that repeat viewings are almost essential; my favorite is when Yzma turns up at Pacha's house to question his wife, posing as a distant relative, and intentionally drops her teacup so that Pacha's wife, who is very pregnant, has to hunker down slowly to pick it up, while Yzma literally cartwheels over to confer with her dimwitted partner-in-crime, Kronk (who is playing double-dutch jumprope with Pacha's kids). Oh, you'll just have to see it...and believe me, you'll be glad you did.
