Summary: Overhyped...
Review: Much as I was excited to see spiderman, having enjoyed the comics and cartoon series, I am sorely disappointed with the film. It was not the plot that was bad, in fact, it stayed pretty accurate, but the really lousy dialogue that accompanied it. If I can spend more than half a movie cringing at cheesy lines and not enjoy the cringing, it probably wasn't a good movie. I mean, cheesiness can be fun and memorable and oftentimes so quotable, but this was quite painful. The hospital declaration of love scene made me look at my friend and ask when the movie was ending. Perhaps the redeeming quality was the action sequences, I did love how Peter Parker flew across the buidings, unfortunately, sometimes, I felt that the special effects seemed choppy and stilted, as compared to the other scenes. Perhaps this is intentional, but I thought it made the film more disjointed. And much as I do enjoy fight scenes, while Spiderman's showdown with the Green Goblin was exciting and all, I felt that is wasn't very tastefully done. But kudos to William Defoe for being such an outstanding brillant. His portrayal of the Green Goblin was exactly how I envisioned it to be. Mary Jane, however, was badly cast. Kirsten Dunst is quite a lousy actress and the red hair is just awful on her! Her acting seems contrived at times and I don't think she brings out the character of Mary Jane at all! Perhaps another young actress, like Claire Danes would make a better Mary Jane. Now, to our title character - Spiderman. When I first found out that Tobey Maguire was playing Spiderman, I thought it was again, another bad choice, but now, in restrospect, I think he did a marvelous job. He captures the innocence, nerdiness of Spiderman so well, and plays our down to earth hero with much aplomb. Despite the awful awful dialogue that plagued the entire film, he managed to deliver his lines as credibly as he possibly could. Overall, despite having a pretty good plot and a believable Spiderman and villian, the film was marred by the less than stellar supporting cast, bad bad script, and not ILM standard special effects.

Review: The movie is superb. Many critics say the cheesy straight-from-the-comic lines degrade the film, but I think it helps the movie stay true to the comic.

Summary: The best superhero movie so far!!!
Review: I think Spiderman is the best superhero movie made so far. It has great storyline and the special effects are awesome. Spiderman lived up to his name by being simply amazing. Even the Green Goblin was very amazing with the things that he did. I recommend this movie for anybody who enjoys science fiction action with lots of amazing special effects. I can't wait for the sequal as well as other Marvel superhero movies that will be released in the future.

Review: This is such a great movie I can not wait to see the next one. If you want to see a fun movie go see this instead of Star Wars. You will not be disappointed. So far the best movie of the summer.

Summary: He's SPIDER-MAN!
Review: Did the film versions of "Superman" and "Batman" successfully capture the quintessence of their respective heroes? Yes, they did. Does this movie? You bet it does! Many times during this film I sat there and quietly nodded: "They got it right."
After reading the reviews I was afraid the film was perhaps not the equal of the trailer; it is. Only someone as staid as the movie critic (most of them) would not be enormously pleased with this production.
The story is told flawlessly and dramatically. The effects are very good indeed. One critic complained that Spiderman looks like a character in a video game jumping around; he doesn't. Many of the scenes are quite breath-taking.
The actors keep pace, never dropping the ball.
Forget "Star Wars" -- see this movie instead. It won't disappoint. Four and a half stars, to be exact.

Summary: The best movie I have seen so far.
Review: This is a movie you do not want to miss. I has a few minor flaws but otherwise its really good. The movie has everything, comedy, action, drama, and a little bit of romance. If you don't already know about the story plot it goes like this. Peter Parker (Tobey Maguire) gets bitten by a genetically altered spider causing hime to get superhero powers. To keep going would spoil the movie. To tell the truth you would have to be a [fool] not to go see this movie.

Summary: Spiderman
Review: This movie is very overrated! I didnt really like it! First of all, if the whole freakin movie wasnt Peter flying around on his little webby web, it would have been better! Every scene was the same, a cityperson gets in trouble, and then, oh no look up, here comes Spideyman on his little webby web and he saves the day for the millionth time! Second of all, the web looked SO FAKE when he was on it! Only recommended if you are a fan of the cartoon, or the comic books.

Summary: Adequate summer movie fodder
Review: Spiderman is a serviceable summer movie with little or no ambition to be a true classic. Is it the limited skills of director Sam Raimi (famous for the Evil Dead movies and, well, other generally bad films)? The tight-fisted budget of Sony? The unexciting background and kiddie-appeal of everyone's favorite webhead? A thoroughly unspired script that probably had any intriguing or daring parts cut out during the fifteen years or so they've been developing this film?

Probably all of the above. A leisurely, standard issue action movie moves along fine with somewhat bland performances by everyone except Willem Dafoe - who is over-the-top in a bad way throughout the film. Not all his fault; Raimi and his clueless costume designers have suited Dafoe up in a silly headpiece that would challenge any actor trying to convey menace. Ho-hum special effects (very obvious CGI) breeze by fast enough to not distract too much but the action sequences are haphazard and not much fun. Setpiece scene of Green Goblin attacking a big festival is very corny, with Spidey saving a kid frozen solid in fear as a big building comes crashing down. The webslinger scoops him up and hands him to Mom, who screams "Bless you, Spiderman!" Did anyone see that coming when you first spot the doe-eyed kid sitting there? You know, it's not suspenseful if you know exactly was will happen.

Most of the blame must go to Raimi. He comes up with no interesting shots (apart from the famous upside down kiss), doesn't have control of Dafoe and hired a production designer who thinks that less is more. Where are the magnificent sets of the Batman movies? Everything here looks like a set and a poorly constructed one (Tight Sony pursestrings or Raimi not caring? Both?)

Regardless, I think anyone can enjoy the modest charms of the film as long as your expectations are low. I'll admit to not being a big fan of Spiderman and the film certainly didn't help that.
