Summary: Awsome Movie!!! Awsome Extras!!!
Review: Back in May when I first saw Spider-man, my jaw dropped at the incredible graphics, acting, story, and emotion put into this comic book brought to life movie. I saw the movie 2 more times in theaters, then rushed and bought the DVD on opening week (sold out the first few days). After viewing everything, here's what I thought:
First off, the movie: I loved this movie, and is one of the top 3 of my favorites ever! The story goes a lot with the old comic books. A kid by the name of Peter Parker is the main character. Through his whole life, he has had a crush on a girl next door named Mary Jane. He's always been a bit shy and for that matter; geeky and never really talked to her. On a school field trip, Peter is bitten by a geneticly enganeered spider. The spider gives him super-human powers like a spider, and he doesn't know what to do with them. That's when one night, his uncle (he lives with his aunt and uncle) is shot by a burglar and dies on the very street. That's when Peter knows who he must become. He uses his abilities (web sling, incredible strength, and super-human speed and senses) to fight evil. His first openant: his uncle's killer. From that day on, Spider-man must fight off evil. A trully great start.Now, after getting his powers, a person (a few miles away) by the name of Norban Osborne is testing a human enhancer drug. The drug makes his mind go mad, and while he does get the enhancers affects, he also gets a criminals attitude. The whole movie is basicly these two fighting. Pretty boring right? No, not at all. Because the villain (green goblain) is willing to do anything to win, and in this case, finds out Spider-man's true identity and...you'll have to see. What made this movie so great was A. The romance between Mary Jane and Spider-man and wonderful acting all around and B. Perhaps the best graphics ever seen in a movie. Everything seems so real that you can't really tell it's special affects. I, toward the end of the movie, really felt like it was possible (which it really isn't). Like there could be a Spider-man out there somewhere. The city landscacpes and swinging is just incredible. Explosions, realism, web, destruction, everything makes this movie so real and exciting... So if u like a good romance, lots of action, incredible graphics, and a ton of fighting (with a little humor) Spider-man is for u. Millions of people did not flock to theaters again and again for nothing. This was a great movie, with a great ending that sets up for...should I give it away?...Spider-Man 2 (set for realease about 2004) The extras: Tons! The making of the movie, messups, a free demo of the PC game of Spider-man, staff thoughts, and a lot lot more. This DVD was awsome, and brings u the blockbuster hit that rocked theaters all over the world last summer. Overall, u should get this DVD. For the movie, the extras, and because of just how good it is. If your still not convinced, rent it on video. Then you'll c y u have to get Spider-man: The Movie; a classic of the future (in my opinion). I hope this helped, and I know that I love and can't get enough of Spider-man

Summary: Liked the comic? You'll like the movie.
Review: This is a movie which follows the comic book development of the charactors with great zeal. Costumes are excellent as are the special effects. Casting is superb and one can only hope that future sequels will use the same Parker, Harry Osborn and Jamison. The story line is clear and easy to understand. You needn't be familiar with the comic book. Charactors develop naturally and can be sympathized with (or hated). Special effects are outstanding. Nothing more to be said. All in all and outstanding movie -- suitable for everyone in the family. I hope that the next movie will be equally as good. Stongly Recommended. ~Paul~

Summary: Widescreen Spider-man is great on the home theater
Review: "Spider-man" is a very good send-up of a comic book hero. The director Sam Raimi filmed many scenes in such a way as to almost seem like paging through a comic-book's storyboard while watching the exciting action and stunts. (For example, there's a scene where you see the DNA being mutated and this is what you'd see in a panel on a page in a comic book, explaining how Spider-man got that way.) Tobey Macguire is believable as Peter Parker, nerdy teenager who becomes a superhero, and Willem Dafoe is always reliably nasty as a villain. His facework in the scene showing the dual Dr. Osborn-Green Goblin is worthy of an Oscar. A bit role played by by J. K. Simmons as "J. Jonah Jameson, Daily Bugle Editor" was particularly amazing--he looked exactly like the comic book drawing.
The surround-sound was quite distinct in this DVD--in fact, sometimes it seemed a bit contrived, as you could hear vehicles pulling up behind you, but they were clearly forward of the action on screen. However, for the explosions and special effects, the surround sound plus the wide-screen format made the action film very exciting on the home screen. We didn't regret that we missed this in the theater.

Review: This movie has everything! It has the classic struggle between good and evil, romance, an action! Spidey fans will find some changes have been made, but it fallows the comics very closely!!!!!

Summary: Tiresome, same ol' same ol'
Review: I'm not a fan of the whole comic book genre, but I can appreciate when it's done right on the big screen. Superman and Batman were very well-made movies and I really enjoy and appreciate both of them for their creativity and honesty. About as much time elapsed between Superman and Batman as between Batman and Spider-man (note the creative hyphen), yet Batman was in no way a rip-off of Superman; it, instead, had an entirely different style, plot and spirit. Spider-man, on the other hand, is very much a mimicing of Batman... with concepts also copied from Superman, just to increase the chance of success. I'm sure that many could readily and willingly count on both hands the ways in which Spider-man is different, but the differences are superficial. When you dissect the big picture, it's really just the same story told with different characters... and an avalanche of dizzing CGI shots that must've seemed like reason enough to make the movie. Sure, Batman wasn't too deep, either, but it was fresh and, thus, its shortcomings forgivable. Spider-man fails not so much because it is THAT bad of a movie, but because its all been done before. Spider-man is a clone, inspired not by creativity, but by proven formula. Hollywood sometimes pulls it off, but Spider-man isn't one of those times. It could've been fresh and highly entertaining, but convention and formula won out the screenwriters' pens over originality and creativity. It's really a shame. That said, this is all in the opinion of this reviewer. Spider-man has garnered tremendous addulation this year from most everyone else. I honestly cannot understand why. It probably has some to do with the complete lack of quality in the theaters in 2002. It is probably also indicative of an audience looking for cheap, momentary Summer thrills rather than the satisfying kind of old that stayed with you and had you looking forward to returning to see it again the following weekend, rather than simply to the DVD. Spider-man is your typical, brainless Summer thrills movie, and if that's what everyone wants, that's fine. My main concern is that such public appreciation for a subpar movie will no doubt bring a flood of more movies lacking in plot and originality that I doubt that the public is aware that they're asking for.

Summary: I Hate this Movie!!!
Review: Now, now, I know "hate" is a strong word, but I cant help but feel this way for this piece of garbage. There was so much hype, and still is, about this movie when it came out. I'm just glad I didn't go to the theatre and see it; I could barely sit through the home video! I dont know much about the comic book spider-man and how much the movie is consistent with the comic book version. One thing I do know something about is quality, and believability in a movie. Tobey Maquire isnt believable as Spider-man; he looks more like a little baby. Someone hand this guy a pasifier because I'm tired of seeing those saggy lips! There was absolutely no chemistry between any of the characters. What's Mary Jane doing working at a dirty resturant when she's got a rich boyfriend? There was no chemistry between Mary Jane and Peter Parker. I couldn't help but feel sorry for the poor chap throughout the entire movie for feeling anything for this (girl). I'm not sure exactly how Peter Parker becomes Spider Man in the comic book, but long before this movie came out I was led to believe he was bitten by a toxic spider inside of a lab. If this is true, what are toxic spiders doing inside of an open-door museum? The only character who drives this movie is William Dafoe as Norman Osborn/The Green Goblin, but even this has flaws. When I first heard that William Dafoe was going to be playing the Green Goblin I was very excited. What were they thinking by dressing William up in that big hunky metal-goblin suit? Dafoe has THE PERFECT face for the Green Goblin; all they had to do was put green make up on him and prostetic skin, and he would've been perfect! I am a fan of director Sam Raimi, but I have to say this is one of his low points. Stick with the late 70's Spider Man movies, because they are alot more entertaining than this one!

Summary: WHAT A BUMMER
Review: The only reason this got any stars (at all) was for the direction, and I suppose a couple of the characters. The story was lackluster.I wasn't really pulled in to it and I'm a big Marvel fan. Kirsten Dunst was unconvincing,of which pails in comparison to her Virgin Suicides performance. Simmons performance as Jonah Jameson was enjoyable. I wont go into this to much further other than to say that if it weren't for Mr. Raimi this film would be a wash. Totally forgetable. DISSAPOINTING!! I hope whoever, does a better job with the Fantastic Four and The Hulk.

Summary: Summer Movie of 2002!
Review: By taking itself somewhat seriously, Spiderman proves that a "seriously" made comic book is both entertaining and rewatchable. In addition to the standard "this is how a superhero is made" elements, there is a love triangle, a search for a purposeful life, and other pieces which are subtley done. The acting is excellent throughout. My main criticism of the film is that spiderman looks too computer-animated. The DVD extras are good... you know plenty about the film by the time you're done. The main commentary by Sam Raimi, Kirsten Dunst and some others has some neat insights, but there's too much "credit has to go to so-and-so". That stuff is nice if you're "so-and-so", but unilluminating to someone outside of Hollywood.

Student Peter Parker is called ''freak'' by almost the whole school. He's weak, shy, and loves studying more then anything else. But when a radioactive spider bites him, everything changes. Peter gains super-powers. First, he uses his new powers to earn money, but when his uncle is murdered by a carjacker, our hero decides to use his power to defend his neigborhood from evil. His known identity: Peter Parker. His secret identity: Spider-man.
