Summary: superb, realistic and wonderfully entertaining! More!!!
Review: It's about time a recreation of the Nelson era has been produced on screen, especially when we have the technology to make it realistic. Educational and exciting. Mr.Gruffud played any excellent young Hornblower with Mr.Lindsey a superb Cpt.Pelew. I wish the series did not end there. It is great fun for those of us reading the O'brien Aubrey/Maturin series which hopefully will go to the screen. A definite must watch during a time when when need some good romantic heros.

Summary: Superb Storytelling & Cast Performances
Review: All 4 stories of A&E's Horatio Hornblower are superb storytelling with outstanding performances by Ioan Gruffudd & the entire cast. As you watch each story you connect with these characters, a task hard to do generally in entertainment these days. Amazon has my order for this set as I intend to share it with my Dad who from his Navy service in WWII will enjoy these timeless stories. Cheers to C.S. Forester, Cast & Crew of this series.

Summary: " A source of inspiration to anyone who cherises adventure "
Review: I've have always watched and enjoyed films with adventure as it's main theme. Wether it is science fiction , a moment in history or just plain every day story, Horatio Hornblower captured my imagination wishing that I was a member of the ship's crew or command of my own ship. It is certainly recommended as a family show as well as a good reading or viewing material at home or in school.

Summary: Superb Adaptation of Hornblower Novels
Review: I have been waiting a long time for an up to date adaptation of the Hornblower novels, and A&E has done an excellent job in bringing them to life. Ioan Gruffudd makes an excellent Hornblower; he plays him with a depth and sensitvity which makes him an actor to watch. HORATIO HORNBLOWER will make an excellent companion to my SHARPE video collection. Let's hope that A&E has more HORNBLOWER movies planned for the future. It would be a shame to stop at only four.

Summary: Excellent! A swash-buckling adventure in a grand scale!
Review: From the story lines, to the actors, to the costumes and exotic on-location sets, this is a well-made series. I especially loved the great ships. It gave me a great sense of adventure. I can't get enough. I hope A&E will make more Hornblower movies. After all, C.S. Forester wrote 11 books on our hero.

Summary: Great Epic Adventure!
Review: I try to watch every "Epic Adventure" that comes on such channels as A&E, PBS and others. This particular series is right up there with all the rest and has made me a new fan of Ioan Gruffudd and C.S. Forester (I love finding "new" author's to read!). Ioan Gruffudd plays Hornblower as innocent as he appears in the first novel (but he looks like a Midshipman who is in his mid-20's, not 17) and seems as natural to the role as Hornblower becomes to the sea (despite having the title of Midshipman who became seasick). The addition of other actors such as Robert Lindsay (Capt. Pellew) and many others make this cast excellent! And the best "cast member" of all, the Indefatigable, the ship on which Hornblower serves - "hand-made" for the series by a family who has been doing such for centuries. She is beautifully done and makes the series more authentic. Along with costume, cinematography, on-location sites of the time and that weaved in ponytail that Gruffudd couldn't wait to have chopped off, this series is all together two thumbs up and five Amazon stars.

Summary: A new standard for the made for TV movie.
Review: It has been many years since I read the Hornblower books. This series has captured the thrilling adventures in "Midshipman Hornblower" and proves that great literature CAN be translated to the motion picture medium. Absolutely a must see for anyone with a taste for great swashbuckling adventure.

Summary: Excellent! job of portraying C.S. Forester's Hornblower.
Review: The Hornblower videos are great. I was afraid that the only Hornblower ever to be done was Gregory Peck's Captain Horatio Hornblower. If you think the videos are good, you should read the books. Forester wrote about 15 Hornblower books and most are as good as the video portrayal of life in the British Navy during the French-English wars of the period. BTW Amazon has the books.
