Summary: Named after the war, but about the people...
Review: My husband and I, both veterans of the US Army, were reluctant to see this movie because we are of differing opinions about certain controversial theories about the Pearl Harbor event. We were pleasantly surprised and gratified that a genuine attempt was made by the producers to stick to recorded events and avoid the morass of conspiracy theories that pull attention away from the bravery of the people who were present during the attack. For I do believe that this movie, although entitled Pearl Harbor, was less about the conflict itself than about what the servicepeople who were at Pearl Harbor went through during the event and after. This movie is about friendship, love, loss, and self-sacrifice, set against the backdrop of war. The characters were engaging, the action scenes were exciting, and the story was well-presented. I suggest putting all of the politics and theories aside and enjoying the story.

What would you do if your best friend died in a war and you fell in love with his girl?

Summary: Criminally bad
Review: If directors, producers, and screenwriters could be sent to jail for making a bad film then Michael Bay, Jerry Bruckheimer, and Randall Wallace should all be serving life sentences for "Peal Harbor." This is one of the most disgraceful WWII films ever made. The sheer stupidity of the fictional love story is bad enough, but even a cursory glance at the actual historical events shows how deeply this film has been dumbed-down for (...) audiences addicted to special effects. The CGI effects in "Pearl Harbor" are intensely obvious, looking like nothing more than animated paintings. Indeed, most of the combat scenes appear like a softcore rip-off of the battle scenes in "Saving Private Ryan". Well, nobody ever said Michael Bay's direction ever suffered from a case of originality.

Summary: Excellent Film
Review: Historically accurate + beautiful filmming + good script + wonderfully talented actors is Pearl Harbor, a film to always remember, and one to check out.
I think the love story plot of PEARL HARBOR kind of the same as the love story plot of TITANIC, but the film and IT'S love story is still unique in it's own way. This film helps you remember the time during World War II when the Japanese dropped unexpected bombs on US soil in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii (doesn't it remind you of the war we're having right now?). It also helps you to remember the sacrafices innocent US citizians had to make during that time, as another reviewer pointed out.

The love story was supposed to show audiances that this film was not all about the war - but it's central characters revolved around three people. "Pearl Harbor" does remind you of "Titanic", but like I mentioned before they are both different.

In "Pearl Harbor, a young soldier named Rafe McCawley (Ben Affleck) goes off to war and finds true love in a young beautiful deticated nurse Evelyn Johnson (Kate Beckinsale). Then, he is soon reported dead. And after his best friend, Danny Walker (Josh Hartnett), mourns the death of his best friend, he starts to fall for Evelyn and they both fall in in love. And later on, Rafe returns, and that's when things start heating up between the three. The war and bombing sequences are spectacular and a major thrill ride. If you are into romance, then the love seens are perfect for you. If you are into action movies, the high suspense fights and bombings are perfect for you. (Doesn't it have something for everyone?)

I was able to sit through PEARL HARBOR without moaning and groaning. I really enjoyed it. The acting is just superb from the entire cast. And the film is stunningly historically accurate, except for the romance. If you are into films such as "Titanic" and "Armageddon", then I highly recommend "Pearl Harbor" to you.
And, as a bonus, this VHS has some really great special features including the music video of "There You'll Be" by Faith Hill and a documentary from the history channel.
But, if you DIDN'T like Titanic, and didn't want to remember it, don't buy it. But definately check it out. It's a masterpiece.

Summary: The best dang movie of 2001-2002!
Review: Don't listen to all the other people who are giving it bad reviews, as a HT hardcore person, extreme movie goer, I tell
you that you will be blown away by this movie.

Summary: This movie is not that good, in fact it's pretty bad.
Review: This movie should have been told from the military point of view and not from a love story angel. I saw it when it first came out and I did not like it, now watching it on DVD I can't even finish it. Too bad now no one will make another movie about that day with all the facts straight and true. Another tail of Hollywood ruining what could have been a great film.

Summary: They've done it again!
Review: Well, once more we have an important historical event captured on film. Well researched and hardly acted, not necissarily a bad formula for war movie. But what happens when you take a potentially great historical movie and add a love story to it? You ruin it to go on the shelf collecting dust, another glorified Titanic. I give this movie eleven thumbs down for wasting so many hours of my life.

Summary: WASTE OF MONEY
Review: Typical hollywood love story with worthless little twists and turns; and the most horrific F*-up of history that Hollywood could conger up. They spent over 140million dollars on it and goodness knows how many millions they wasted on their hype of this waste of film, but it only raked in about a 120million dollars in the theaters. -- One big Flop!

Summary: Rent DON'T buy.
Review: Like most people, I'll agree, the the special effects were great. Having to suffer through what was more like a 30 second melodramtic television commercial turned into an hour and a half - OUCH! Nobody to blame but myself, who bought it? I made it through the first disc, just to see the only good part. Having done that, maybe I'll play the second - one day. On some dreary Sunday when I need a nap. I guess this is what happens when you try to please everybody. I agree with the reviewers that say, watch Tora Tora Tora, for a movie about Pearl Harbour.

Summary: The best movie I'v seen in years!!
Review: First of all it think that this movie was not outrageously long (3 hours) because if Pearl Habor wasn't it wouldent be the great movie it is. Starring: Ben Affleck, Josh Hartnett, Kate Beckensile, Cuba Goddin Jr. Etc. The fabulous visual effects are what make the movie and all of itsurrounded by a love triangle, (Affleck & Harnett fight over Beckensile)and a wonderfull array of history i give this movie 5 stars out of 5. I recommend this movie to everyone young or old!! :)
