Summary: A good collection; film isn't as bad as you've heard
Review: The Pearl Harbor Gift Set is a well-packaged collection with the 2-disc DVD of the movie, and an informative National Geographic DVD about Pearl Harbor itself. There's also a facsimile of something (a telegram?) from FDR regarding December 7, 1941. And the map enclosed is also informative, showing what happened and when, and the status of the world in 1943. Good luck trying to fold it back up. Of course, the highlight of this set is the film. After it's premiere, the culturally correct thing to do, was to trash the film as being a sappy love triangle, and that the title event doesn't even come until an hour and twenty minutes into the film. That's too easy. The film is certainly not Oscar material, but it actually plays quite well. The intention of the director and produder, as explained in the "Making Of..." documentary included, is to include as many real people from 12/7/41 in this story, and using their stories to help demonstrate the impact of the event itself. Ben Affleck and Kate Beckinsale's relationship early in the film, as well as their relationships with their colleagues, plays right out of a 1941 movie. That adds to the film, rather than anything away from it. This is a period piece, after all. And then when the actual bombing sequence begins, it's mesmerizing. The devastation of the surprise attack is felt by the viewer, as you see the characters becoming changed by what happened. A major bone of contention, is the film overplays the significance of the Doolittle raid over Tokyo in early 1942. Despite what Kate Beckinsale's character suggests, that event had little impact on the war over all. Even the hint that the "Thirty Seconds Over Tokyo" was a major turning point almost trivializes the deaths of the Americans who fought in the Gulf of Leyte, Iwo Jima, and so on. But if anything, perhaps the film will inspire people to read more history about World War Two and Pearl Harbor. If it does that, it certainly succeeds.

Summary: It was okay.
Review: Well I'm a teenage girl and I gotta say, Josh Hartnett is the HOTTEST guy in the world. But I hated the love triangle thing. It was so stupid and you knew that Danny (Hartnett) was going to die because Rafe(Affleck) already "died" once so they wouldn't kill him off again. The action scenes were really good and I thought the movie was sad. All in all, this movie did an okay job at recreating the real Pearl Harbor.

Summary: Pearl Harbor DVD pros and cons
Review: This DVD is quite nice. It has 2-3 discs depending on which one you get, and the 3 disc cams with a National Geographic map of Pearl, with timeline and a type of score board of the damaged ships. There are a number of documenaries which are very good, and more. (BUT)this has the most insulting thing I have ever seen in a DVD before, it is that the movie is only about 3 hours long but it is cut between two discs. Now, I can name at least 5 other movies that length or longer that are of one disc, one side, and you can see it from start to finish with out flipping or switching so needless to say I was quite insulted, but still a good film.

Summary: Winner
Review: For a film these days to be sucessfull it needs Action, Special Effects and A Love scene, Peral Harbor contains all of these and more. A fair few people have slated this movie but i love it. The best part of the film is the attack on the harbor but the whole set up of the love story is interestung too. Ben, Josh and Kate light up teh screen in some pretty good performances, which has helped the film alot. This is a must see film and definetly one to own

Summary: More patriotic pap that didn't exist.
Review: Pure popycock and predictable. Has very little signifigance with history or events that had to do with December 7th, 1941, just a crude backdrop for a weak story.
Ben Afflick plays the marginally retarded toothy flyboy and a Matt Damon clone plays his strident friend.
Very little is based on fact but as O have earlier stated, the story is predicable and weak.
Avoid this stinker!

Summary: Has The Feel Of A Bad TV Miniseries
Review: A pleasant enough love story shot on the location of the actual battle, the movie unfortunately suffers from gross historical inaccuracy, video game-like special effects, and dialogue which is not believable. I was greatly disappointed, given all of the prerelease hype, and all of the on-location shooting, which was essentially wasted.

Summary: Currancy and Rememberance
Review: I bought this film because A)I love history and historical drama, and B)Family lore has it that our family lost a loved one who was on the Arizona. I read the reviews and decided to check this film out.
Poignant, funny, and serious, all together. The love story is the back drop for the tragic event that was the beginning of WW2 for the United States. Watching the attack, brought home for me the sacrafices made everyday by our armed forces, then and now. Worth it. P.S. Great acting.

Summary: Hollywood garbage at its best
Review: This is what you get when you combine a badly written soap opera and a one-sided, shallow propaganda film.
The movie was obviously an attempt to replicate The Titanic's formula: take a historic event and lace it with a love story. However, in this case, they failed miserably. The characters are shallow, the dialogues and the script ridiculous, the acting - well even all of Hollywood's stars couldn't save this doomed project.

Put all that aside, the Pearl Harbor attack sequence, which is about 30 minute longs in the middle of the movie, is worth watching, especially if you have a good home theater system. If not, well you didn't miss much....
