Summary: Great movie that dont do to good in new media
Review: Highlander is an awsome movie to begin with. But on DVD the picture quality is less then perfect, that I agree with but one has to understand a few basethings about the movie. First of all Highlander was not a bigbudget extravaganza but rather a small production that was a huuuuge success. And being a small budget film the quality of the original fotage is less than perfect so the DVD has that quality too. DVD dosent preform magic and cannot make the picture cristalclear on Highlander. So the DVD is more for the fans and collectors rather than the average viewer. If your only going to buy it because you want to see the movie and dont care for all the trimmings on the DVD, buy the VHS instead since the quality of picture and sound is the same on this on. Maybe the sound is better on the DVD but it's not worth it in itself.

Summary: Great Action Movie Epic With Great Sean Connery
Review: The DVD itself was fascinating to go through due to the still that were stored in single frames. My DVD player handled single frames and I was able to read the screenplay as well as all the revisions, reviews and etc. One disappointment was the Video quality of many scenes was some of the worst I've seen on DVD and yet other scenes were great. I'm using a Pioneer DV05 which is supposed to make up for poor DVD's but somehow it couldn't fix this one. I hope that this was just a case of one bad DVD. Movie was great but DVD video quality was not, but the sound allmost made up for it.

Summary: Bad movie, Bad transfer
Review: The first time I saw this movie I was 29. I wish I had watched it when I was 12. I didn't like it at all. It is VERY dated. Sean Connery in his red outfit was very funny, though. BUT, even if you like the film, you will be disappointed too - the transfer is one of the worst that I've seen.

Summary: Bad work !
Review: I've read the criticisms about the DVD version of Highlander and I thought it was an exxageration of those who've written their opinions... well... I've paid to see and, unfortunately, they were right: all the magnificence of this wonderful film was corrupted by the worst work ever seen in transferring data from one media to another. A total lack of respect with both the film and the DVD capabilities. If, in the cover, was said that this terrible work was accompanied by the producers, what could one imagine if they didn't do so ? I would like also to point out my repulse by the so-called "Widescreen Editions". The annoying black belts that limit the image can be good for the cinema, but not for our domestic TV's, and they make me pull my hair everytime I see them !! Death to the Widescreen ! Or, if they are "necessary" (on the point of view of the producers), then there would be a disc with the two versions, as we can see in the Blade Runner and Total Recall DVD versions: surely, the Widescreen side of the disc will never be used ! The 1-star rate was for this mediocre work. To the film itself, I give as much stars as available...

Summary: A great example of how NOT to master a DVD
Review: The package quite clearly labels this as "Digitally Mastered for Superior Sound and PICTURE Quality". HAH! The picture on this DVD is the worst I've seen on any sell-through product - YES, VHS included. I've seen clearer freeze-frames on a ten year old rental tape. Absolute waste of money. I only hope that (A) I can get my money back, and (B) the studio recalls these rejects and redistributes a product of the quality deserved by this great film <<dusts off VCR deck>>

Summary: My favorite movie was ruined by the worst DVD transfer !!!!
Review: I've been a true Highlander fan since day one. No Highlander II(somewhat OK) or Highlander III(Bad story, great effects and great sound)or the TV Series (OK, saving the differences in general)will ever improved the original...like it's said in the movie: "It can be only one !!!", and that's the reason why I still give it 3 stars. I was ready to enjoy watching the movie again in my 50" TV with Dolby Digital Sound, and expected to be amazed by this flick again...but, the video picture is the worse I've seen in DVD, you can even see the little pixels of different colors on the screen, and the sound isn't great either: the Soundtrack sounds all right(not great, what is a sin, considering the great soundtrack by one of the great Rock bands of all times, and one of my favorites, Queen), the surround effects and the Dolby 5.1 tracks in general could have been used better to create an unforgettable experience of revisiting this classic on DVD.And is a shame that the VHS isn't great either... If you want to convince someone to buy a DVD player, don't show them this movie, show them for example the latests Bond movies "Goldeneye" or "Tomorrow never dies", where the picture and sound effects are unbelievable...If any of the producers or the DVD Engineers for this movie read this review, please make a new and "reimproved" edition of this movie, a lot of funs like me will buy the new DVD and thank you and congratulate you forever !

Summary: Great Start For Anyone Interested In The World Of Highlander
Review: Here's the original fantasy/swashbuckler starring Christopher Lambert as the immortal Scot with a French accent posing as an Antique dealer in New York by day and amputating heads by night. Forget those drossy sequels that have more contradictions and paradoxes than Connor MacLeod has years and check out the REAL Highlander adventure. There Can Be Only One.

Summary: Great movie...the WORST DVD
Review: I love this movie and was excited that it was issued on DVD. What a disappointment! The video quality was beyond terrible, rife with artifacts and breakup. The resolution was worse than you'd see with a 20 year old tape on a 20 year old VCR. The AC-3 was uneven with erratic volume levels that rendered the dialogoue inaudible at times. Don't waste your money on this bottom-of-the-heap DVD!
