Summary: A highly enjoyable Cult Classic
Review: Hugely entertaining sci-fi/fantasy romp, although undoubtably owning a debt to the likes of the superior Blade Runner and Terminator. Oh and your last really cool nightmare as well. The plot is very cunfusing as we gradually learn throughout the course of the film that Christopher Lambert is a 15th Century immortal swordsman. Harsh cutting and the story inappropriately being told in flash back doesn't help and may make some give up half way through, but the good vs. evil tale is compelling and the special effects are excellent. Mulcahy's rock video roots are always apparent, to the films credit and there's also a really cool Queen soundtrack to go along with it. Lambert makes an good impression, though he's not an ideal casting, but its Sean Connery who runs away with the acting honours as Lambert's tutor. And remember: "THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE!"

Summary: DVD = Digital Video Distortion
Review: This is the first DVD I purchased after buying my DVD player. I almost returned my DVD player because I thought that all DVDs were going to have the same compression artifacts and pixelation that this copy has. I wish I would have found all the opinions posted here before I purchased this DVD. I probably would not have bought it. One thing good to say about it though. The color is great and the sound - although recorded at a low level - is superior to the video tape version (only a slight hiss). I agree, with other reviews here. This should be recalled and replaced with a version worthy of the supposed high-quality THX certification. By the way, as movies go, this is one of my cult favorites.

Summary: Great movie, Unacceptable DVD!
Review: Highlander is one of my favorite action adventure movies. My review is not about the quality of the film, it is about the Horrible lack of quality of the DVD version.Simply put, the DVD is unwatchable. The image is constantely shimmering, and full of artifacts. The company must recall these unacceptable DVD's and remaster the movie professionally. How dare Republic pictures/Lumiere distribute a poor product like this.

Summary: A Classic Good over Evil story
Review: One of the true classic stories with the old theme of good over evil. A masterful job of both acting and special effects is displayed making this a very fine "keeper" for any collection.

Summary: Great Movie -- HORRIBLE DVD!!!
Review: I read all of the reviews people had posted here on Amazon.com but because I love the Highlander movie so much I just couldn't help myself and ordered the DVD. What a mistake! The DVD version of Highlander is possibly the worst movie experience I have ever had.

The video is so grainy in parts that it looks like a cloudy sheet of textured plastic was put in front of the camera while it was filming. The audio is plagued with balancing problems with dialog so soft in some scenes that you can't hear it. Surround effects are poorly done. Even the soundtrack doesn't sound very good, and this is a digital medium that is superior to CD!

This DVD is abysmal! I can't believe anyone could have watched this and thought it was a good product. The studio should be ashamed! Do not do what I did and ignore these reviews: trust me, no matter how much you love Highlander, you will hate the DVD version! Somehow studios have to get the message that consumers will not put up with garbage like this. The best way to start is NOT TO BUY THIS DVD!

Summary: the greatest movie ever made
Review: Im sure that you fell that there can be more then one but you are dead wrong, becuse this flick toatly rules. The soundtrack just rocks. Queen is the best. the flashbacks are just awsome and the shots of the Scotish Highlands where breath taking. Lambert was great as Connor. Conary rules in this movie he is the greatest of all time.

Summary: What Science Fiction Should Be!
Review: This fantastic movie is visual tour de force (sorry to be trite)! Everything about it pulsates. It is one of my favorite movies. For film students and directors, take note of the fantastic transitions that help make this movie what it is. If you were disapointd with the original Highlander, don't be put off. The director's cut here clearifies everything that is essential, and even adds some. Essential plot, humorous scenes, and touching character development cut from the original has been faithfully put back in to make this movie a legend!

Summary: A must have, must see.
Review: There can only be one, instead of seeing sequels just watch it again and again. What puts this movie apart from others? The wonderful translations between scenes as it flashes back into the past and back into the present. In fact it seems to falter in this only once..and recently I found out that was due to editing (the directors cut should have that extra flashback). Anyway, it is a wonderful film and if you haven't seen it you must!

Summary: There can only be one ... And only one Highlander Movie !!!
Review: I have erased from memory all the horrible sequels that have followed, including the TV shows, and remain satisified with the one and only original (well Director's Cut that is) version of Highlander.

The adaption of immortals weaving through time to obtain the 'prize' by eliminating each other until there is only one left, is an original and entertaining story.

Connery is at his best in a great supporting role and Chris Lambert stars in the only movie that gives his acting(?) style any creadance.

The additions are small, but add a lot to the original North American release.

'The can only be one!' And this video is the 'ONE'
