Summary: Sometimes a BIG stick is all it takes!
Review: Although the entire trilogy is good, the best is the first! There is no doubt that Joe Don Baker's portrayal of Buford Pusser is unbeatable! The true story of this brave sheriff reminded me that there really are certain principles worth fighting for. It's too bad his life was so tragic. We could certainly use some of his bravery in this day and age.

Summary: A real ledgend in his time
Review: Buford Pusser went through a lot being sheriff overcomming tragaties like his wife's and friend's murders. He saves a verry young boy being beaten by his own father Pusser give the father a lesson in justice. Sadly tragicly killed in a car acident, Bufor Pusser was a true server of justice and a real legend to his county. The whole cast was real great.This is a must see for those who love action films or those who seen "WALKING TALL" parts 1&2, then this is for you to add to complete the saga. Really great action!

Review: Excellent action filled drama of life involving bootlegging and vigilanteism in beautiful Tennesse. One of the best "Southern State" epic dramas ever filmed.

Review: For all it's technical flaws, bizarre dialogue, and bad acting (not everyone)I must say watching this trilogy was...HEAVEN! Classic '70s cinema. Glad I made the purchase!

Summary: No frills but a bargain for the money
Review: I agree that the picture and sound quality should have been better. I feel better about the quality of my DVD player knowing that someone else found certain scenes in "Final Chapter-Walking Tall" to be too dark. Also disappointing are the lack of trailers and documentaries, the latter, especially disappointing since these films were loosely based on facts. The packaging is flimsy, hardly protective from dust for the discs, merely adequate. Even so, the set is still a bargain for the money. As one who had the privilege of meeting the real Buford Pusser's mother and daughter and being told the facts, I really don't like Paul Gaita's so-called review and his calling the real Buford Pusser cruel and far from scrupulous. He should at least take the time to get his facts straight before making such statements. He might also be interested to know that the real Buford Pusser did not die in an explosion, but from being thrown from a fast-moving car. His mother went to her grave believing the crash of his Corvette on August 21, 1974 was caused by his being poisoned. Officially, his death was ruled as an accident, caused by drinking and speeding. Curiously though, his mother said that she was prevented from having his body exhumed, which she said would have proven that he was poisoned. Especially strange that there was no autopsy done either, which would have been proof of his drinking or not. She also said she was prevented from having his death investigated any further. I agree that the first film is the best and most factual, but Mr. Gaita needs to get his facts straight before defaming an actual person's character and reputation.

Summary: It's time for a retraction and for the facts to be told
Review: I find it very amusing to note that so-called "critic" and "reviewer" Paul Gaita has not been forced to retract his defaming comments about Buford Pusser, calling him a "brutal and less than scrupulous character". Anyone foolish enough to take any film version as the gospel truth about any real-life person is very naive indeed!! The real Buford Pusser, never carried a "big stick" or used one on anyone. Like most law enforcement officers in the U.S. who value their lives, he always carried a gun. Maybe the screenwriters got the very real Sheriff Buford Pusser confused with the ever-popular, but highly fictional Sheriff (without a gun!!) Andy Taylor of Mayberry, North Carolina!! The fictional and wonderfully simple and crime-free Mayberry was a far different place than the real Tennessee-Mississippi state line "strip" during Buford Pusser's six years as sheriff of McNairy County, Tennessee and for a number of years before-hand. Quite obviously, Paul Gaita is one of these naive people!! Apparently, he seems to feel that whatever Hollywood chooses to write about a real-life person is all that is needed to make a judgment about that person. Another thing the original film "Walking Tall" got wrong was about Buford's wife Pauline opposing his running for sheriff. In reality, she was always highly supportive of him. The films all say in the credits that they are based on "certain events in the life of Buford Pusser", that "certain events have been portrayed to heighten the dramatic effect". "Walking Tall" is a very violent, but entertaining film. The sequels were quite obviously made to continue making all the money the filmmakers could from the formula. The real Buford Pusser's mother was opposed to any more films being made and was even quoted as having said "I fought them on making that final chapter, they just wanted to make a dollar off him". The films, factual or not, brought fame and actually, very little fortune to the real Buford Pusser. They made a lot of money for other people. But, most significantly, many people still remember, admire and respect Buford Pusser, nearly 30 years after he died after being thrown from his speeding Corvette (not from an explosion as Paul Gaita has erroneously stated and has not even owned-up to!!). The facts are documented!! I just can't help but wonder just how many people will still remember, admire and respect Paul Gaita 30 years after his death!!

Summary: Bufford Pusser walks tall on DVD
Review: I have waited for a long time for the Walking Tall Trilogy to be released on DVD but was not over joyed with the DVD set. First I have to say is that the movies are all outstanding and can be watched over and over aging without loosing their excitement. But, it looks like Rhino did not use a master print but a copy of the video tape. The print they used I think is a very poor print. Walking Tall part 1 has alot of what I call "video tape lines' runnig through it, the Final Chapter is real dark in some scenes, and over all the video quality is not what you expect out of a DVD. It looks like you are watching a video tape. Rhino, you did Bufford Pusser an injustice! And I have to agree with the other reviewer; Where is the TV series at??? Release them pleaseeeee.
Over all, for the movies sake I give it a 5 star plus. On Rhinos part, 5 stars for releasing the movies on DVD, and 2 stars for their transfer. Go back to the master prints, thx them, re-do a new release to DVD including a release of the TV series.
If you like Walking Tall and Buford Pusser at all, this is a DVD set you will wnat to own
