Summary: Will all you Tolkein fans get a life
Review: This is the best film of recent times, it's epic, it's moving and wonderful, but some Tolkien fans don't seem to like it... WHY? because of bloody Tom Bombodil. The exclusion of this totally superflous character who was added after the book was written, has them crying into their beer, again I ask why. In the original text, Tom was the nasty sticking point in the first book. The books pace from Hobbiton to Old man Willow is amazing, you are pulled along by the text. But when Tom appears, the pace vanishes and the book loses it's way. It's as if Tolkien stood up and let a 2 year old write the following chapters. So Peter Jackson removed him, GOOD! The pace remains and we don't have to suffer the happy-clappy mentallity of Tom and his missus. So Arwen is used instead of Glorfindel..GOOD! She's obviously an important part of Aragorn's life (as evidenced in the indexes) and it makes sense for a character that will be a part of the story to help Frodo. All kudos to Tolkien for the ideas and the work gone into the trilogy, but for a theatrical work, his book needed chopping. The pomposity of the text, the badly written fight scenes...(Boromir is disposed of off screen and dismissed with a single line)and some of the most stilted dialogue ever committed to paper needed these edits. So all you Tolkien fans get a life and realise that your precious book can never be filmed scene by scene, without appearing disjointed and patchy. This film rules

Review: This movie is nothing compared to the incredible amounts of a** that the entire series kicks, but it still deserves the 5 stars of perfection. If you have any sense in you whatsoever, you will go buy this movie, the soundtrack, and a s***load of merchandise invovling the movie.

Summary: Very good - but theatrical cut is better
Review: _The Fellowship of the Ring_ is a wonderful movie for all the reasons other reviewers have expounded upon. However, I rate this version only four stars because the theatrical cut is superior. Although every bit of added material is wonderful on its own, when you put it all together it makes the film too slow. This is particularly noticable at the beginning, when it takes almost an hour of screen time before Frodo actually leaves on his journey. While this slow pace works in the novel, in which the same events occupy 100 or so pages depending on which edition you read, I think it falls flat in the movie format. On the other hand, the "extras" - commentary tracks, Easter eggs, documentaries, and other such things - are excellent. But if what you're looking for is the movie, buy the theatrical cut first.

Summary: The Lord of my Sleep
Review: I fell asleep halfway through this movie. I don't see how this film is any different than every other look-at-me-I'm-a-hero movies. There simply isn't any depth. The film is almost completely missing Tolken's environmental kick, and the ring turns out to be the best character. I did like that notion of the film and was quite afraid of the ring. But when I had to listen to the inane dialogue, the fumblings of Elijah Wood and Sean Astin, the most unchallening role of McKellen's career--I simply couldn't forgive the film. My dreams of Middle Earth are so much more satisfying...I think I'll go there now.

Summary: The Lord of the Rings
Review: When I first saw this movie I was at school and I was totally memorized in this wonderful story of a mysical world called middle earth. 3 hours or so of a great plot, extended scences and added scences. It's a timeless tale of adventure. You'll be swept away into a world of complete mystery. You'll be wishing there was more and this story wont be forgotten easily. Your movie collection wont be complete without the Lord of the Rings. With a great cast thats so convincing, in my opinion, there is no way you can resist watching this movie over and over again, till your like me, knowing exactly what everyone is going to say before they say it. So don't wait and get this movie and become a Lord of the Rings Fanatic.

Summary: I was at this one too. It's still not how it happened.
Review: "It wasn't just like the book. Peter Jackson wasn't close enough to the mark. Where's Tom Bombadil? THE BOOKS WERE BETTER!" BLA! BLA! BLA! BLA! BLA! I've had enough of the "fan boys" complaining about the fact that the films are not "like the books". That's because these are what people living in the present like to call "films, or movies". Give peter Jackson credit where it's due. Nobody makes truly epic films like this anymore. The man's discovered a lost art. As much as I like George Lucas, he can create a universe from nothing and transfer it to film. Peter Jackson used the real world and made sure that a great deal of time, effort, and care went into presenting this ADAPTATION. If it were just like the books, people would have fallen asleep or walked out after the first 100 page narrative. GROW UP! ENJOY LIFE! WATCH MORE TV! Summary: A wonderful interpretation of Tolkiens masterpiece
Review: I was amazed by this movie. Up until a few months ago I hadn't read any of the books or even seen the movies. In fact I was very keen on ignoring them. I read the hobbit a few years ago and thought "I will never read Tolkien again." Then I saw this movie.
I read the book and,though I had seen the movie, I had my own image of what Middle Earth should look like. When I saw this movie again, everything matched up. Most of the charachters were perfect, all the scenery was exquisite, and Peter Jackson did a superb job in following the book. Many avid Tolkien fans will be disappointed (I know I was)to find the abscence of Tom Bombadil and the fact that Lotlorien was a bit distorted, but it is just too outstanding a movie to allow minor flaws to get in the way of its all around magnificance.
I loved how well represented the characters were. Peter Jackson did a fantastic job in casting the roles. Although I was a bit perturbed that Boromir (Sean Bean) was so different than in the book, the rest of the fellowship was unchanged. Sir Ian McKellen was a MAGNIFICENT Gandalf, Viggo Mortensens portrayal of Aragorn was glorious,I was held in awe by Orlando Blooms overall skills as the elf Legolas, and I believe I enjoyed John Rhys-Davies'preformance as Gimli more than his role in Indiana Jones. To top it all off you have the four hobbits played by Elijah Wood(Frodo), Sean Astin(Sam),Dominic Monaghan(Merry), and Billy Boyd(Pippin) who had you rooting for the good guys throughout the entire movie.
This is by far the most stupendous movie I have ever seen and it is a shame that only 5 stars could be awarded because I personally would have given it more. I anxiously await the release of the Return of the King.
This is a truly inspiring movie. Peter Jackson is a true artist and I hope to see more of this kind of dedicaton and commitment to directing in future films.

Review: Excellent movie, but this DVD did not work on my Philips DVD player correctly. The movie freezes up about half way through... This does not happen on all DVD players though.

Summary: Best movie of all time
Review: Oh my gosh! I love this movie! Peter Jackson did such a great job. I am one of the biggest Lord of the Rings fans you will ever meet so I did notice some screw ups. But mostly I just loved it. This movie really follows the book. To those of you who have not read the book, READ IT! You are missing out on great characters. To those that have, I don't know about you but I miss Tom Bombadil.This is in every way the best movie I have ever seen and I have seen my fair share of movies, so if you are going to buy any movie, BUY THIS ONE!!!!!!!!!!!
PS Legolas does not have brown eyes but let the records show that he looks better with brown eyes than blue.
