Rating: Summary: LOST NO LONGER! LOTL COMES TO DVD! Review: Watched all 17 first season episodes in one marathon viewing today, plus all the commentaries and interviews. Absolutely great DVD set! Kathy Coleman Bell (Holly) and Wesley Eure (Will) were particularly fun to watch and listen to; they were so wonderfully self-effacing about what they did back then and they seemed to genuinely like each other and apparently had a good time making the show. It was refreshing. David Gerrold and Larry Niven were also terrific to see and hear. First time I'd ever seen and heard Larry speak (I'm a huge fan of his written work). For me it was worth it for that alone. All-in-all, a thoroughly enjoyable experience. After not having seen the show in I-don't-know-how-long, it nevertheless lives up to my memory of it: flawed, certainly lacking in production quality, but totally watchable and enjoyable nonetheless. This is because the scripts are superior work by talented writers: Gerrold, Niven, Dorothy Fontana, Ben Bova, Wina Sturgeon (Ted's wife), Norman Spinrad, Margaret Armen, Joyce Perry, Walter Koenig and others. Its status as a cult hit is justified. Hey, I was 19 years old when it debuted in '74. Despite being marketed as a "Saturday morning kids show", I thought it was a cool show even at that advanced age -- it was certainly head-and-shoulders above whatever else was passing for tv sf at that time! -- and 30 years later I still do.
