Rating: Summary: YOU GO NOMI Review: I view "Showgirls" more as comedy than anything else. The dialogue and the acting are so over the top it is hilarious. I cannot help but crack up everytime Nomi says or does anything. She is so JITTERY and such a spazz. I think Elizabeth Berkley did an incredible job playing her though. I don't know if she meant to overact or if that's how she wanted to portray the character? Just watching her explode and go on tirade after tirade is enough to make you laugh. Gina "it's holy water" Gershon on the other hand is awesome in this movie. I absloutely love her character. She plays such a wonderful evil [person]. And just the way she totally screws with Nomi's mind is so devious and cool!!! "Come on slave girl" she utters to Nomi while they are on stage together, and Nomi is just a wreck at this point.......pathetically hilarious. Part of the fun of "Showgirls" are the classic one liners. "I hate Garth Brooks"! as she pulls her switchblade on the guy who just picked her up hitchiking. I've never seen someone so passionate about their taste in music.....except Nomi. We love ya girl!
Rating: Summary: Excellent but Overdramatized Review: Great dance scenes, but Berkley overdid it. (Running into the street and then puking?!?) Made her look like the stupid, easy blonde. Gershon was the only good thing in this movie. If you are a Gershon fan, you knew what to expect, and you weren't dissapointed. Over all good movie, but don't buy, rent!
Rating: Summary: best of the worst Review: Absolutely, bar-none the best worst movie ever made. The dialogue is flawless in it's stupidity and the stars are unforgettable in their performances. The emotions are as raw as they come! See Elizabeth Berkley throw her french fries, marvel at her devouring a hamburger and be sick at the same time. Showgirls is truly the best of the worst.
Rating: Summary: Not an everday movie, but ironically, It is TRUE Review: I was invited to watch this movie with me knowing about itsnature, so, I had no surprise at any of its contents, Let us get realhere, besides the fact the men will always enjoy such movies, one should attempt to grasp any meaning in this film, and in this case, we must accept what we have brought down upon ourselves. This film reflects a down to earth story and it shows actual backstages of Erotic Vegas night shows, and that is a main attraction for so many of us, even those who say this is a nasty movie, still choose to attend such places, simply because it is a human nature to be tempted by the lure of such stories. The fact that this film is showing more than it is supposed to, as some people think, does not necessarily deem it nasty and not worth the money. Infact, I found the story to be captivating and the sequence of events is most logical. I agree that coming out of this movie, one has not gained any life experience nor any kind of moral, it is still fun to watch, because as i said, it is simply a human nature
Rating: Summary: critics need to wake up and realise the truness of this film Review: This movie was truly under rated, it was one of the best films i have ever seen. the critics who put down the film need to really start thinking about getting another job, elizabeth berkley played and awsome role in this film. she played the part the way it was suppose to be. The only reason people put down this film is because they dont want to except the fact that it is the way life in Vegas really is, and the writer just blew the lid of of the city. if you ever come across this movie do not pass it up BUY it. IT ROCKS.
Rating: Summary: We all need to give this film some credit. Review: OK, I know that this film is not the best, but it is actually a good movie, sure on the camp scale it comes out on the top with a smashing 10, but hey so did 'Valley of the Dolls', and it's now a classic. 'Showgirls', in it's own right is a classic, Paul Verhoeven a very talented director who brings out all the trash and sleaze of Las Vegas. His shots are very poigent for each scene. Joe Esztheres is an amazing sreen writer, and though this is not his best he delivers what we want to see and what we want to know, The acting did lack from some of the actors but NOT at all from Gina Gershon or Elizabeth Berkley. Gina was awesome as the bitchy high quality showgirl and Elizabeth was as equally brilliant as the desparate girl welling to do anything and everything to get to the top. The only reason I think that this film was toatlly trashed by the critics was because of the rating. It got an NC-17 is an automatic death for a film, if it would have been released in a R version to theatres it might have actually succeded at the box office. All in all I thought this movie was really good, and deserved more credit than it got, ecspecially Elizabeth Berkley and Gina Gershon's amazing performances.
Rating: Summary: One of the greatest movies ever made Review: People who bash this film fail to acknowledge the fact that it is truly one of the greatest ever made. I rank it up there with such films as "Schindler's List," "Casablanca" and "Gone With the Wind" in terms of sheer brilliance. Great acting, combined with a riveting plot and terrific, crackling dialogue, make this movie one for the ages. Elizabeth Berkeley was amazing, like a young Meryl Streep...only better. One helluva film.
Rating: Summary: A beautiful film (with a bad reputation) Review: Fantastically well-made and hugely underappreciated, this glittering modern-day "All About Eve" is engaging and surprisingly moving. Joe Esterhas and Paul Verhoeven have made an emotionally and visually stunning masterpiece ripe with a mix of passion and cynicism. Elizabeth Berkley and Gina Gershon deliver intense performances as rival Las Vegas dancers. The extravagant set- and costume-design are as lush and beautiful as the story.
Rating: Summary: legs'n breasts Review: Though I was somewhat prejudiced against it, it did not bore me or make me hate Verhoeven. This film does not have any more depth than the shows it's based on; but it also does not "pretend to" have that. The difference of attitude between Robocop and Starship Troopers proves that Verhoeven can both make the "real" thing and a "good" parody of the real thing. Showgirls is closer to a parody of what you'd expect to see from an acclaimed director, but I gave it 4 stars for the sake of its sincereness and the abundance and quality of eroticism it depends on. If I watch it again, it won't be because I liked the story - I liked the "girls" and the "show"s. In short, this is "showgirls" all over. Direct, strong, sexy, cheap...
Rating: Summary: I don't care what anybody says!!! I like this movie!!! Review: I first saw this movie in the theatres and it took me by surprise. Despite the fact that I am not a prude and have watched more explicit movies in the past; I wasn't prepared for all the sex and luridness that the film depicted. That's why I enjoyed it. So many films today are so predictable. You have a pretty good idea what's going to happen before you sit down in front of the screen. But, this movie had me guessing all the way through. Now, granted, the acting was not that great. And, the dialogue was hilarous and melodramatic at times, but I still found the film highly entertaining. However, I feel that Elizabeth Berkeley's performance was the worst. Despite the poorly written script, the other actors in the movie acted circles around her. Yet, I still found her performance enjoyable (and that's not just because her clothes were off most of the time either). I can't say that about other bombs I've seen in the past. Ultimately, people watch movies to escape and for entertainment purposes. And in my eyes, "Showgirls" succeeded. I don't know why someone like myself who is discriminate, logical, analytical, and is concerned about good quality acting and quality storylines/plots would love this movie. I just do!!!
