Summary: Powerful
Review: First of all, this movie is nothing but satire of obsession with POWER and its necessary attributes: career, success, sex, money, glimmer, etc. It includes all the elements necessary for this kind of movie: poor but ambitious girl, Las Vegas, trying hard, etc. etc. All these components are blown out of proportions and it seems that really bad acting and lousy plot was what Verhoeven wanted from his team. So almost everybody noticed it and almost all comments include keywords "satire", "parody", "bad plot and acting". But then there is also one very important thing that one can only feel about when watching the movie - there's POWER AND FORCE in it so strong it almost vibrates. Everyone is pulling so HARD, doing everything as if their whole life and security depends on getting into the show or meeting some right person. One smart person said: "If you want something from people make them be scared of you. Make them believe that you will kill for that cigarette or that ice cream. When they believe you they will give you everything."

Summary: Didn't know whether to laugh...
Review: What an astonishing movie this is. After seeing it, I couldn't imagine someone making anything this bad. Then I saw "Magnolia", and a debate began to rage in my mind. Which was worse? After the sting wore off, I determined that "Showgirls" is the second worse movie of all time, because you can laugh at yourself at the time you wasted when it's over. But you must understand, as other reviewers have said: It's so bad, it's good.

The most laughable dialogue and pathetic acting ever in a major Hollywood production. Watching that Saved by the Bell girl commit career suicide is the major benefit of this movie. Where has she been? You'll know after seeing Showgirls.

Watch Showgirls and the Godfather back to back. Then relax, close your eyes, and try to absorb what you've just seen.

"Where are you from?", read the desperate model/actress from the script as she rose from the casting couch.

"Different places!"

Summary: Not just nudity...It's a great film!!
Review: When I purchased "Showgirls" I expected a mini-porn NC-17 movie. What I got was a huge suprise! The film is excellent, the acting is average to slightly below...This movie REALLY DOES take you into the life of Las Vegas showgirls. I found this movie not only funny at times, but also quite an interesting film. I rate DVD quality at 4.5 stars and sound at 5 stars. buy this movie!!

It's a great addition to any collection!

Summary: Don't be too quick to judge...
Review: Okay, let's face it... To the average viewer, this movie is only about T&A to put it nicely. I thought the same when I began to watch, and I was quite skeptical right from the get-go. However, I must say that to me, "SHOWGIRLS" portrayed the life of a Vegas dancer perfectly. I can imagine that the violence and the expected sex are a vast part of that lifestyle, and though it was blunt in its portrayal, it was honest. I don't believe that Elizabeth Berkley is the greatest actress in the world, but she did have the guts to go all out for the part...and I do mean "all out"! Gina Gershon, however, played Crystal Conners beautifully. I could believe while I was watching that she was an actual showgirl. What some may not know is that her character was based on the legendary dancer of Vegas. She was very believable, and let's not forget beautiful, in the role. The pool scene did nothing for me, but as with most movies today, it is something overlook, and thank heavens for the mute button! I did not care for her lapdance with James, the dancer, but that's me. Other than that, the movie cannot be judged on its splash of nudity. It was honest and bold, and no one went to see it without expecting to view naked breasts. People are quick to judge this movie based on that alone, but I feel it went deeper and showed the Vegas lifestyle in a way that I myself, as a viewer, can understand....

Summary: An over-the-top, explosive, rock and roll musical!
Review: Showgirls, Showgirls, Showgirls..... what can I say that hasn't already been said? This movie is truly amazing, and I think more directors and actors should look at this movie as an outstanding example of how movies should be done. From the glamourous stage shows at The Stardust, to the notorious strip club, The Cheetah, Showgirls truly has it all. Costing between 35 and 40 million dollars to make, Showgirls is a perfect example of true cinematic perfection. Showgirls captures all the Vegas lights and action, so how could you go wrong, and Elizabeth Berkley is absolutely amazing! Her acting is fantastic! The sex scenes in this movie are shocking, and the camera-work is awe-inspiring! Some of the filming techniques in this movie were amazing because I've never seen them accomplished before in any other movie! And, the scene at the end of the movie, when Berkley and Gershon say their fairwells, it makes you want to cry. This movie incorporates T&A with a true Hollywood drama. May I ask you, what other movie makes such a good mixture out of these two elements? This movie was brilliantly written by Joe Esterhas, who greatly deserved his 3 million dollar payment in return for his work of art! Trust me, if you haven't yet seen this movie, do yourself a favor and buy it. Make sure you get the NC-17 Rated Version, and get it on DVD if possible. This is truly a fantastic movie that I'll never be able to stop watching over and over and over and over again!!!!

Summary: Okay, I like this one, so sue me...
Review: i watched it recently on video just to see what the fuss is about to see if it was really that bad...

of course, some scenes in the movie are very rank, liz berkeley making a man climax by giving him a lap dance is the ultimate in raunch, but it definately is a turn on ! She definately leaves her "save by the bell persona" behind. maybe she just wanted to try something different. the other women in the film are gorgeous too. and you get a good feel for what the life of a showgirl is about...degrading? maybe. but these women knew what they were getting into when they got into this business...this film shows you the sleaziness of the entertainment business in contrast to the women who will stop at nothing to make their dream real... Gina Gershon( america's favorite 'almost lesbian' ) has a nice role here as a cutthroat. this is simply a guilty pleasure movie; enjoy it for what it is: a nice display of t and a

Summary: A Misunderstood Classic
Review: Calling Showgirls "poorly acted" or "sexist" completely misses the point; it's like accusing Britney Spears of not being a "real musician," as though you've discovered something.

Of *course* Showgirls is exploitative and demeaning to women. Almost all Hollywood movies are demeaning to women. Almost all of them are male-written, male-directed male fantasies. But most of them cover this fact with a thin veneer of "empowerment" and "sensitivity," making perfunctory, surface concessions to political correctness. It's hypocritical, dishonest and has horrible long-term effects on the psyches of young impressionable girls (and boys). The brilliance of Showgirls is that it gathers all of the worst Hollywood masculine excess and throws it unapologetically in our faces. The movie is straight-from-the-id, primal, brutish male fantasy. Every woman in the movie is a laughable caricature who advances, if at all, by deceiving other women and becoming a sexual object for men. The "heroine," Nomi, crosses every line, sells every shred of dignity, physically assaults her female competitors, sleeps with her boss (in the most over-the-top sex scene in cinematic history), gets her best friend raped... and at the end of the film, claims that she has gambled and won "herself." This tragi-comic nod to empowerment is a slap to the face of anyone who's been paying attention.

Whether Esterhauz and Verhoeven intended it as such, Showgirls is at once a camp classic and a sly satire, an example of everything our culture at once wallows in and disavows. Sure, you can react with righteous indignation, waggle your finger at the movie, and pat yourself on the back for being so enlightened. But maybe you should take a look around, at the billboards, the commercials, the sitcoms, the movies, the music videos, your own prejudices... and think about whether you can't find a better target.

Summary: This is the best movie ever.
Review: I everything about this movie... the dancing, the plot, thedirecting, the acting, but most of all, the reality. This movie is about a young girl who has to claw her way to the top in Vegas to achieve fame and soon realizes by the end, that it wasn't worth it. Deep down inside I think it's a movie that says, "Stay in school." This movie may seem bad to some people, but at least it doesn't glorify things like sex and violence. This movie took guts to make on everyone's part and they all pulled it off. I hate that some people only watch it for the nudity, that's sick. You have to look past that for some sort of inner meaning. If the Oscars weren't so stuck up this would've won best picture. Elizabeth Berkley or Gina Gershon if you're out there, e-mail me. I'm both of your biggest fans and I think you've done a great job on this and all of your other movies. END

Summary: Showgirls....... Yes
Review: I remember when this movie was first released to theatres. I didn't see it because of all the bad reviews it got. But, now that Showgirls found it's way to DVD, I decided to purchase the movie. It was FANTASTIC! I LOVED EVERY MINUTE OF IT! Berkley's acting was great, and who couldn't love Gina Gershon! She really lit up the screen! I know this movie has gotten a bad reputation, but here's what I see in it: Movies are supposed to entertain, they let you forget the world you're in and they take you to a whole other world. Well, this movie is sure entertaining! You'll definately forget your surroundings! Nomi Malone, (Elizabeth Berkley), dances at a strip club called The Cheetah in the beginning of the movie. Her name, Nomi, sounds like the two words: (No) and (Me) put together. This implies that Nomi can't truly find herself, there's (No Me), until she dances naked. At the Cheetah, her name is changed from Nomi to Heather. See, there's more than meets the eye to alot of movies.

Showgirls, cost between 30 and 40 Million Dollars to make. And let me tell you, every cent of this money was spent to make the elaborate costumes and production numbers, the fancy scenery, and , to be blunt, true cinematic perfection! You'll be dazzled if you rent this movie, and even more dazzled if you see it on DVD. It so much furthers the viewing experience!

MAKE SURE TO SEE THIS MOVIE IF YOU HAVEN'T YET! Hey, it's outstanding for me. But, if you haven't yet seen this movie, watch it on a Friday night, or a least the next rainy day that comes around.

Enjoy, I know you will.

Summary: Hilarious!
Review: This movie is an absolute gem. Make no mistake it's terrible, but if only every flop could be so much fun. Think of it as a spoof of every too-serious coming of age film, Vegas flick, and canned-Hollywood morality tale. For all the T&A, the greatest shock of this movie is that it almost redeems itself and manages to rise above the incoherent plot, horrible dialogue, and frightening bad taste. Almost.
