Rating: Summary: It's great, great, great ! Review: This movie has changed my life! Jim Carrey is absolutly wonderful! I love this movie and i hope, you also love it.
Rating: Summary: Watch it! It's a really good movie Review: I love this movie. You know, it's really the type that makes you feel all happy after seeing it, and I saw it twice. At fist i just wanted to see it because Courtney Love is in it, but now it's my favorite movie. It really proves that Jim Carey is an actor, not just the funny man who talks with his butt cheeks. Robert Dinero is on of my favorite actors too, so that was a plus. I like the beginning, cause it really is Kauffmanish. After seeing it, I bought "Andy Kauffman: The Midnight Special", and it's hillarious. Anyway, Man On The Moon was funny and sad, and it should've gotten some Oscar nominations. Golden Globes are good though.
Rating: Summary: Jim Carrey's most touching performance Review: I've always loved Andy's odd sense of humor. Beides all the pratical jokes and Elvis routines, he would always make you think some really big punchline was coming, and then nothing would happen. But even I didn't think they could possibly capture the essence of Andy with a feature film. But with a performance by Jim Carrey and the direction of Milos Foreman, they were able to make a very wounderful movie. Everything you have heard about Jim Carrey actaully becoming Andy Kaufman is true. Besides the obvious facial diferences, you'd swear you were watching Andy play himself. It's a shame this movie has not been getting any attention.
Rating: Summary: Incredible Movie for Kaufman Fans Review: My first encounter with Andy Kaufman was at a TM Center in PaloAlto, California, in 1974. He was supposed to show up and entertainthe meditators that evening. As I recall, he was already about 15 minutes late when a janitor poked his head in the room and started doing janitor-like things in a rather loud and irritating way. His actions were all the more annoying because he was the exact opposite of the person we were wanting to see, whose delay in arrival was starting to concern everyone. Finally, the janitor decided to go up to the front of the room and start talking to the group. No one could believe it. And he started talking about nothing -- just a lot of nonsense. And then he made some humorous remark -- something subtle (I wish I could remember exactly) -- that indicated that this was not a janitor at all but the very Andy Kaufman we'd been waiting to see. He got a huge laugh and a standing ovation, and the rest of the evening only got better. So, I'm a big fan of Andy Kaufman. I watched him do really crazy stuff over the years; I fell for most of the gags; I always ended up thinking he was brilliant and interesting. Not everyone feels this way about him! If you are an Andy Kaufman hater, do us all a favor and don't see the movie (and don't write a nasty review about it either). Likewise, if you don't know who Andy Kaufman is, but you have conservative values and expect people to follow traditional norms of behavior, guess what? You're not going to like this movie either! Andy was a crazy guy and if you have a problem with crazy guys, you will have a problem with this movie, I promise you. But if you know about Andy, or if you like crazy stuff -- even just once in awhile -- go see the movie and take the ride. You'll be glad you did. Oh, and by the way, if you want to know what Andy Kaufman's personality was REALLY like, this movie will tell you much of the story because somehow, Jim Carrey captured Andy's character to a tee -- the voice, the looks, the walk, the movement -- I don't see how he could have done this so well. In an interview, Danny DeVito said of Jim Carrey's performance, "He nailed it....[during the shoot] it felt like I was working with Andy again."
Rating: Summary: an oscar worthy movie definatley overlooked... Review: i never really knew too much about andy kuafman. but right before man on the moon, all of these any kuafman specials were on television, and i soon learned how this comedian was a very odd character as a person. i later saw man on the moon, and i loved it. jim carey gave a great performance as andy and you can tell he put all his effort to be exactly like him. i also really like the directing in this movie, because it kept many people's intrest when watching it. this movie was really overlooked for oscar time, and jim carey should of been reconized at oscar time for his performance.
Rating: Summary: Mesmerizing and unique Review: Strange, not entirely successful but compulsively watchable story of guerrilla-tactics comedian Andy Kaufman. Biggest asset is of course Jim Carrey's performance -- he seems to be channeling Kaufman, not impersonating him. Unfortunately, the lockstep plotting and the lack of any depth to the supporting characters gets in the way.
Rating: Summary: Outstanding! Review: I've been a huge Jim Carrey fan ever since "Ace Ventura" and I can honestly say, this is his best performance yet. His portrayal of Kaufman is beyond perfection, he really gave life to his character. You'll forget it's a movie if you're not careful. The actual plot of the movie is full of laughs and even a few deep moments. I laughed and cried and when the movie was over I still wanted more. Overall, this movie has truly earned it's perfect five-stars!
Rating: Summary: A great movie . . . if not exactly true to Andy's life. Review: This movie was wonderful, and I agree with those who are disapointed that Jim Carrey wasn't at least nominated for this performance. I mean, Andy, in all his characters and behaviors, is not the easiest person to represent, yet Jim Carrey did an almost uncanny Kaufman in this movie. Anyone not familiar with Andy's work and casual fans will probably love this movie. It is a good introduction into the brilliance and insanity that was Andy Kaufman. It also lets the audience in on the feeling of being "Kaufmanized." However, for any really hard core fan of Andy's, this movie just doesn't do justice to his life or his work. Although it covers the best known elements of his art, it isn't too accurate at all. All in all though, this movie is really great, and will be enjoyed by most.
Rating: Summary: PERFECT Review: jim carry was so good that it mad me qustion if it was really Andy Kaufmen. It actully make you feel bad for Andy.
Rating: Summary: Jim Carrey deserved an Oscar and didn't even get nominated! Review: First of all, I would like to say that this is a great movie -- you'll find yourself totally immersed into the universe of Andy Kaufman during this movie (at least I was). Before I saw this movie, I had never seen anything by Andy Kaufman (although I tried to change that fact prior to seeing the movie, but since I live in Denmark, it's hard getting any of his stuff) -- right after seeing it, I went straight home and ordered some of his work on DVD. Also, anyone who has seen this movie must agree with me, in that Jim Carrey was at least ripped for an Oscar nomination for Best Actor, if not the Oscar statue itself. I can only imagine that it is very rare when an actor is nominated for Best Actor at the Golden Globe Awards, wins the Golden Globe, and doesn't even get nominated for an Oscar? I've lost most of my respect for the Academy. Don't be fooled by the fact that this movie didn't sell as good as most of the other Jim Carrey movies -- this is definitely his best performance so far (though not as funny as some of his previous blockbusters, this movie is not intended to be a "full-blown" comedy). The DVD release looks great too. Not only do you get a great movie at a great price, you also get a lot of extras at that price, something which is rare these days when you often pay somewhat extra to get the "collectors edition" or "special edition". I'm a huge R.E.M. fan too, so the inclusion of two R.E.M. music videos ("Man on the Moon" and "The Great Beyond") is simply great!
