Rating: Summary: One of the best bio pics ever Review: When an actor plays another individual in a biographical film, so much is lost. After all, how can someone truly take on someone else's identity? Well, in one of the great acting performances I have ever seen, Jim Carey has done it. Although, facially there is no similarity between carey and Kaufman, Carey's uncanny adoption of Kaufman's mannerisms almost make you believe that Andy has been brought back to life. I remember Kaufman's many outrageous antics and even though I knew the outcomes, I was as enthralled at Carey's duplication of them as I was when originally done by Kaufman. I swear, I lived through Kaufman but, Carey was so good, I was taken in again by the various stunts and schemes. We all have wondered whether the Jerry the King Lawler incident on Letterman in which Kaufman was injured was real or staged. I recommend you see this movie... maybe you will be able to draw a conclusion and resolve the issue in your mind, once and for all.
Rating: Summary: Brilliant, excellent.....Jim Carrey Review: There is not much really to say, this is THE Jim Carrey movie to see, and the extras are cool too. Don't hesitate, get it now. tenk you veddy much.
Rating: Summary: Fascinating Biography, Tremendous Performance Review: This movie is great for anyone who loves Andy Kaufman as well as those who know little about him. For those who have only had the experience of seeing him on TV (like in Taxi), this movie truly shows Kaufman's life behind the screen, which I personally know little about (everything from his childhood, to his marriage and his eventual dimise). Though I am not usually a fan of Jim Carrey, he shines in this performance and does an amazing job of bringing a human aspect to this bizarre, relatively unknown person. I would recommend this to anyone who wants to know more about the mysterious Andy Kaufman, or anyone who just enjoys a well done biographical performance.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Review: This movie was excellent and I recommend it to everyone. Being too young to see any of Andy Kaufman's 'stunts', this movie made me realize what I missed. His comedy is hilarious and his compassion was uncomparable. My compliments to the director and especially Jim Carrey for their terrific work.
Rating: Summary: Great film by a master in story-telling, Milos Forman. Review: Man on the Moon is one of 1999 best films. Jim Carrey's portrayal of Andy Kaufman is undoubtly magnificent. Milos Forman -director of excellent films such as "Amadeus", "One flew over Cocoo's Nest" and "The People Vs.Larry Flynt"- once again does a remarkable job. I didn't know anything about Andy Kaufman until I saw this film, and I'd say he was quite a character. But this film is worth seeing because it will puzzle -dazzle, hustle, razzle, :) Tony Clifton would say- and touch you and make you laugh or cry or both, SO SEE IT. GOODBYYYYYYY
Rating: Summary: Save your time and money Review: ...this is the absolute worst movie I have ever seen, four thumbs down. Please run away, save yourselves. I don't know who these people are who liked it but I would suggest some serious medication. The actors and anyone involved with this film must have hated Andy Kaufman. This film is a slaughter of his career. There is nothing even remotely funny or touching or anything in this film worth viewing. The best thing about it is that he finally died so I could hit the rewind...if only this were true for Jim Carrey.
Rating: Summary: Yeah, sure he acted it well, but highly overated. Review: In my opinion Jim Carrey has truly acted in two movies, Truman Show, and Man on the Moon. I still did not like Man on the Moon though. I find that when movies are accurate in depicting a biography, (which Man on the Moon was) they sometimes lose what an audience wants to see in a film. This was a funny movie. However, when I say that Jim Carrey acted in Man on the Moon I am saying that he acted in a comical character, I do not feel that he acted in any drama scenes. Truman Show was a comedy yet it still had drama scenes. I'm sure many people disagree with me but this is just how I feel.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Movie Review: Jim Carrey gives the best performance of his career in Man on the Moon. This movie unlike many of Carrey's others, doesnt have that slapstick goofiness that Carrey is well known for. What he does do is give a mesmerizing performance in this story about Andy Kaufmann. After a while, you will forget that you are watching Jim, yes his acting is that good in this. Jim Carrey should win many awards for this movie, if he hasnt already. He certainly shows that he has some real acting ability. Man on the Moon is an excellent movie. You will enjoy this whether you hate Jim Carrey, or even if you didnt care for Andy Kaufmann. This one is highly recommended!
Rating: Summary: Jim Carrey Is Great But. . . Review: The film was really long to me. It had so many segments that were dragged out very long. When I thought it was over, which was by the way perfect, it had another 10-15 minutes more. To me, this film was basically an A&E biography. It told the facts and it really wasn't entertaining, hollywood style. BUT! I will say that Jim Carrey was brilliant and should have recieved allot more. If you're gonna buy this film buy it for Carrey's preformance.
