Summary: WOW Great RE RELEASE
Review: WOW just went to see the re release this weekend of ET and well let me just say it was very cool I have to say when I heard it was going to be released in the theaters with extra footage i said to myself have to see that. I had a great time seeing the movie again. It felt as if i were a kid again. The theater was very packed where i went the movie was sold out and there was not a dry eye in the house at the end of the movie. I was very amazed at what spielberg did with ETs costume and all of that stuff he redid. I have to say when this is done in theaters across the globe i will have to get this on DVD to fufill my dreams of owning ET. This by far was amazing their was stuff in their that i had no idea that i saw in the first release of the movie. Their was a scene in the beginning of the movie where ET was getting out of his ship and they showed the inside of ETs mothership. They also had a scene where the people that are coming to get him chase him until their is no other way of getting him. But all in all i had a great time in the movie.

Summary: Still one of the greatest movies EVER MADE!
Review: According to some of the reviews of the remastered edition, the new scenes have ruined the movie. But hey, as long as they don't make a remake of this one, "I'll Be Here" (all pun intended).

I own the very first copy of this movie, from when it was released back in '82. I don't know who's it was, but I could not stop watching it. Shockingly, the picture quality is still sharp.

When this movie is released on DVD (hopefully by the end of this summer), there will be 2 discs, the first featuring the special edition and the second the original theatrical version. Hopefully there will be a third disc offered that contains the ENTIRE music score from the movie. Maybe some informative special features will be offered. Hopefully.

I will review the SE when I see it on Sunday.

Summary: Oh, Please!!
Review: For all you people who have been dissing E.T. all together, I would like to tell you what you can do with your opinions....But I digress. I was about 3 when the original came out and it has been one of the movies I will NEVER forget!! I even remember begging my mother to buy me the E.T. cereal. Now that it is back, I am thrilled. I have two younger siblings that are 10 and 12 years younger than myself. I am so happy that they will have the opportunity to experience this movie. But, I have to say that it saddens me that movie producers feel the urge to change this movie to make it "politically correct." Maybe the guns are bad for kids to see, but they see it in every action movie their parents let them watch EVERY DAY!! I agree with previous ratings that say the movie should be left alone. And please, make the original available (and affordable) AT LEAST to the people who would like to see the REAL thing.

Summary: The Greatest movie of all time
Review: Wow i have to say in my book ET was the best movie i have seen as a kid. I saw this as a very young kid when i was 8 maybe i saw this film and i loved every minute of this movie. In a nutshell ET was looking for a companion to live with for a while and he had no one to go to but elliot this 10 year old boy being played by Henry Thomas. He goes and finds ET invites him into his home and goes ahead and keeps him until his people come back to the planet and gets him. After about maybe a few months ET gets home sick and he wants to go home after the fact halloween comes up and he is going with elliot to the forest and he starts to get sick and begins to get very ill. The hospital scene is very saddening ET gets very ill to the point he is going to die with out medical attention. The house is turned into a makeshift hospital and that is where ET and elliot are going to get better however ET is beginning to die on elliot and he goes into cardiac arrest and dies right their on the table and is about ready to go on to be packed in ice to go to the morgue. However somehow he regains consciousness and goes on to live and leaves for home. In the end his people come back to get him and ET says his goodbyes to everyone especially elliot which was kind of touching in the end. I was crying like a baby in the end i was happy for him to finally find the people he needed to find and begin to make his journey home to his home planet. This year they are going to finally make a remake of the movie which will include scenes that where not in the original movie and that should be very interesting. All in all the movie is very cool you should go see it in theaters when the remake comes out and enjoy it with your children.

Summary: Have seen the re-release
Review: I saw the 20th anniversary edition last night and we have nothing to fear. It is still the same fantastic movie. There were just some minor changes that are hardly noticable and the new scenes are enjoyable. The CGI they used to touch up some scenes is effective and is blended almost unnoticibly with the rest of the movie. When I finally own this on DVD I will still probably watch the original more often than this edition, but that is for nostolgic reasons more than estetics.

Have no fear, Speilberg has not ruined E.T. ...P>Go see E.T. though, it is great to see it again on the big screen. Take a kid as I will my nephews and watch them enjoy it as we did.

Summary: Okay, NOW all the film purists can calm down.........
Review: For all of you who are complaining about the edits and "tweaking" of several elements in this film, you can relax now. In the 20th Anniversary TV special broadcast on NBC, Spielberg himself, said that when the Special Edition is released on DVD, it will contain BOTH the revised edition that is coming soon to theaters, AND the original 1982 version. At least he's giving us a choice.

Summary: buy this. do not see the new version.
Review: i myself am rushing to find a version of this movie before the revised version is the only thing available. unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be a letterboxed version of the original in either VHS or DVD. this video seems to be the best alternative.
i have to concur with the customer from seattle. spielberg's movie will suffer, and suffer bigtime, from his intended changes. it's not the digital technology i'm worried about, but the thematic problems: to replace the rifles with walkie-talkies is a grave mistake, that will likely ruin one of the greatest scenes in movie history. the guns, the closeup of e.t. & elliot's eyes, and john williams' score as they take off all combine to send chills down every viewers spine (even, admittedly, after 20 viewings.) the children have been chased for 10 minutes at that point, and the only way to preserve the incredible climax of that take-off is to escalate the threat aimed at them. walkie-talkies? ooh, i'm shaking in my boots...

Summary: "Not that bad"
Review: E.T. is a very touching movie about an alien from outer space who forms a friendship with a 10 year old boy. As they start knowing about each other's planet, they realize that their is danger in their way for some kind of cop force is looking for this alien. The boy, Elliott, tries to get E.T. back to his planet. The only way to do this is to call the aliens and confirm with them. There is a very good scene in the end where E.T. goes back to its planet

E.T. is a good movie but some parts are incredibly boring and irritatible. The last 40 minutes of the movie are pretty good but the rest is too logical. I already knew what would happen from the beginning of the movie to the end.

Henry Thomas acts okay and so does Drew Barrymore. Others act bad and others act good. When I see those puny actors and actresses, I just fast-forward.

Some scenes in the movie are very long and I just couldn't stand watching them all over and over. Besides, I think in about another 50 years, the movie will be remembered but no one will want to watch it. Steven Spielberg's movies will be remembered but I don't think E.T. will be as popular as "Jaws" , "Jurassic Park" or "Saving Private Ryan"

The script is also pretty good. The plot is too. Well, I can't really suggest that you buy E.T. :The Extraterrestrial but you should rent it or see it in theaters. Overall: 3 stars.

A very heart-warming and family movie.

Summary: ...Unbelievable - make it cheaper - quick!!!!
Review: You are probably like me, rushing to get an untampered-with copy of E.T. before the bastardized version hits the screens this summer. I am distraught that movie makers can go back and ruin classics by digitally adding "new" footage that adds no merit to the movie, or editing out shotguns in the effort to appear more politically correct for the masses. This is yet another classic film, like the ruined "Star Wars", that is one that we will all wish that we could get our hands on in it's originally released state. Please release this classic film in it's unblemished state at a price that we can afford. The digital age has done nothing to enhance these movies, it only takes away from the beauty of the special effects that were available at the time, and are therefore superior efforts than that we see today. The realism that was accomplished by the special effects available at the time is what makes this film a classic. The added computer animation cheapens the efforts of all the geniuses that worked so hard to make that movie and the character of E.T. real to us in the first place. Tampering with the film, adding new and un-needed footage, altering the film as it originally appeared cheapens the experience for us all. I am saddened that my children will not be able to see this classic film as it originally was screened, and as I originally experienced it as a child in the movie theaters.
