Summary: Sleepaway Camp Survival Kit (Movies 1-3)
Review: Sleepaway Camp

Sleepaway Camp is a very interesting film.It is kind of creepy.I guess it's suppose to be like that since it's a horror movie, but it has many scenes of incest and other odd things. This adds to the story and gives it a great ending; or should I say shocking. The characters are pretty interesting some are annoying, some are loveable, and some are just plain mean. The acting is pretty sucky though. The dialogue is of course cheesy. The Aunt is either a really bad actress or suppose to act they way for the movie. Many say this is a Friday The 13th knock-off but you really can't say that. This film is fresh for being different and taking a big risk.Check it out and see what you think.Welcome to Camp Arawak, where teenage boys and girls learn to experience the joys of nature, as well as eachother. But when these happy campers begin to die in a series of horrible accidents, they discover that someone - or something - has turned their summer of fun into a vacation to dismember.Has a dark secret returned from the camp's past... or will an unspeakable horror end the season forever? From its grisly special effects to the truly shocking climax, Sleepaway Camp is no ordinary body count movie.See for yourself why this killer thriller spawned two sequels and became one of the most suprising horror hits of the 80's!(7/10)

"Nice to see a flick like this with a glimmer of originality. I said a glimmer, mind you -- enough to see, but not enough to be dazzled by it."

Sleepaway Camp II -Unhappy Campers

Sleepaway Camp II - Unhappy Campers is a big suprise. It surpassed it's sequel. It didn't have much competition though; the first one had many strange themes but was still very interesting. This is definetly a good sequel let alone a good movie by itself. The characters are fun.Pamela Springsten does a great job as Angela. The death scenes are also fun and gory.It also doesn't have as much fowl language as the first. The plot is also really interesting and the acting isn't half bad.I also enjoyed
"The Happy Camper Song".

Oh I'm a Happy Camper,
I love the summer sun,
I love the trees and forests,
I'm always having fun.

Oh I'm a Happy Camper,
I love the clear blue sky,
And with the grace of God,
I'll camp until I die.

Make sure to check out this funny tongue in cheek horror movie that could stand on it's own better than it's predeccesor.Five years after the horrific slaughter at Camp Arawak, transsexual lunatic Angela Baker has become a counsler at Camp Rolling Hills. But Angela is about to teach bad campers a brutal lesson in survival when these teens are sliced, stabbed, drilled, barbecued, chain sawed and worse.Renee Estevez co-stars in this outrageously vicious sequel to the cult hit.(8/10)

Summary: Great Set for Great Horror Series
Review: The "Sleepaway Camp" series has long been known as a "Friday the 13th" knockoff by many mainstream critics. But to fans, this series is so much more. From its shocking and haunting finale of the original, to the pre-"Scream" self-mocking style of part 2 ("Unhappy Campers") to the full-circle feeling of part 3 ("Teenage Wasteland")... the "Sleepaway Camp" series has grown quite a devoted cult following.

Anchor Bay Entertainment (aka the Horror Fan's Best Friend) has issued a boxed set of all three "Sleepaway" films. Featuring new cover art and a collectible booklet, this set is a must have for any fan. Here's a breakdown of what all three movies include:

Sleepaway Camp -- Feature-length commentary by director Robert Hiltzik, star Felissa Rose and moderator Jeff Hayes; theatrical trailer.

Sleepaway Camp 2: Unhappy Campers -- Commentary with director Michael A. Simpson; behind-the-scenes footage; video trailer; still galleries.

Sleepaway Camp 3: Teenage Wasteland -- Commentary; behind-the-scenes footage; deleted gore scenes; video trailer; still galleries.

The only complaint would be that the original movie is the same disc that was released in 2000... a non-anamophic transfer with no additional extras. But the extra footage on the next two films is a real treat for any fan, providing a rare inside look on the making of these classic films.

Visit "Sleepaway Camp"... and become a dismember.

Summary: Pretty good movies
Review: The "Sleepaway Camp" movies are good horror-comedies. Part 1 is serious, (well, as serious as they get). Angela is a sweet little 12 year old girl who has problems. All the guys who offend or attack her end up dead or severly damaged. And she has a "little" secret. Part 2 is a lot more self aware with a lot more humor. Angela'a back and she's a lot more sure of herself this time out. She is intent on "weeding out the bad", and any one not measuring up to her rather high standards will usually wished they had gone to Camp Crystal Lake instead. Part 3 is more of the same as part 2, except that Angela is posing as a camper. Part 2 and 3 are the better of the triligy. Part 1 isn't bad, just it's predictable after "Friday the 13th". Well, maybe not completly predictable, but it's pretty run of the mill. Parts 2 and 3 are a little more origanal (they were relesed before "Scream" came out) with humurous self awareness. Angela (grown up) is funny, not to mention pretty. She is truely an origanal killer. There is a bonus disk with scenes of an aborted sequal, part 4. From the little I saw, it's probably better it never was finished. But you can't tell from early unpolished dailys, but the script seems pretty bad. I give it 4 stars because they are all good movies, but they don't gell together with seriousness of 1, sillyness of 2 or 3, then the downright badness of the aborted 4. It's really worth your money with all extra commonteries and deleted "gore" features.

Summary: Not nearly as good as everyone says
Review: The first movie: A bunch of teenagers go to camp an the killing begins. This one is just really boring and features some PAINFULLY bad acting. Think of an R-rated version of The Bad News Bears and you'd come pretty close to what you've got here. This movie uses actual teenagers, which immediately reminds you of why most movies use people in their 20's to portray teenagers - these kids look like they're about 9 years old. The murders are only a slight diversion from the dullness. I'll say this though - the last 10 seconds are the freakieast thing thing I've seen in a long time.

Part II - Unhappy Campers. REALLY BORING. This would be a typical teen slasher at summer camp movie (at least they use 20-somethings for the teens this time), but there's a twist: the killer is the main character. This is certainly no spoiler since you'll learn it right at the start of the movie. The trouble is, this might sound like an interesting twist - in theory - but it just doesn't work in execution. Slashers work because there's suspense - danger lurking around every corner. But in this movie, you're around the corner, you see everything coming before it happens. And it just doesn't work. Pam Springsteen does a great job as the ethical, psychotic, and witty killer, and the movie has a great atmosphere, but the concept was too flawed. There are also way too many killings, it's basically like watching corpses run off an assembly line. With virtually no character development on the part of anyone except the killer, this gets tedius real fast. After watching for an hour I was checking the display on my DVD player, and was thankful to learn that there were only 10 minutes left to sit through.

Part III - Teenage Wasteland. Probably the best of the bunch. Same exact plot as the second one, same flawed concept, same great atmosphere, but at least this time there are some interesting characters. No character development at all (again), and the characters are killed off in order from most to least interesting. But still better than the other two. The dark humor actually kind of works in this installment.

Fourth disk - this is just endless takes and re-takes of a few scenes in a movie that was never made. Very beautiful Fall scenery, but otherwise completely unwatchable.

All the movies have a commentary track, which unfortunately are dominated by some guy who apparently runs the Sleepaway Camp website. I guess he's the biggest fan (in the whole world) of these movies, and he prattles on endlessly trying to impress someone (himself?) with his encyclopedic knowledge of banal trivia related to the movies. It sounds as if the people who were actually involved with the films - the writer and producer - are getting pretty sick of listening to him by the end of each commentary track.

Overall, these are decidedly below average films for the camp slasher genre. There's no suspense and no menace, and they just don't work. Pamela Springsteen does a good job as the killer, but she's just killing people we never got a chance to know, so we don't care.

Summary: Very Campy Horror
Review: The first Sleepaway Camp is fabulous. It is a pretty typical early 80's camp murder film, but with a few great twists. Some of the murders are pretty out there, but at least they are creative! The best part of this movie is the ending. Granted you pretty much know all along who the killer is, but the final scene of this movie is quite bizarre. All in all its campy horror at its best! 2 and 3 are downright funny! For anyone who appreciates the fact that comedy and horror, along with some bad acting, can go hand in hand, its well worth the measely [money]!

Summary: Not bad at all!
Review: The first was sort of eerie, the second was full of gory deaths, and the third was ok! My favorite one in the series is pt 2! These movies have alot of extras! If your looking for gory deaths like: decapitations, lanmower death, death by flag pole, and more, then these are your kind of movies!

Summary: Great collection to own...but something is missing!!
Review: The sleepaway camp movies are probabyl the best horrow movies around. Out of all the three the 2nd is the best because Angela(PAmela SPringsteen) kills her the campers in a more gruesome way. The 1st is ok...but it is rather disturbing....soem scence will make you loose ur lunch..Such as the scene where angela stands up nude...don't get me wrong nude girls are a good thing...but angels reveals something as well too! Dont' worry i won't ruin this scence for you horror fans out there..u just have to see for yourself...The 3rd one is also ok too... but what up for it the special features...entitled the "GORE FEATURETTE" this shows u the stuff they couldn't put in the movie.. The reason why i didn't give this 5 stars is because of the collection.. I orderd the sleepaway camp collection from AMAzon.com and i was happy with it ...

Summary: Fiendishly clever, delightfully cheap, wickedly fun...
Review: This box set is fiendishly clever. With fantastic cover design (although the older was better - grow up Red Cross!) - this one is an delightful little addition to my movie shelves.

With three films all enjoyed in their own ways, the Sleepawap Camp trilogy has aquired a pretty massive following. And it deserves it.

This box set, with it's eye catching cover, nifty sliding out box, humorous sleepaway camp "diary", and even the horrid unfinished production footage of sleepaway camp 4 - is definitely something worth looking into.

But once you see how cheap it is, if you're a fan of these films then the decision for you should have already been made.

Summary: A great box set
Review: This box set is worth the extra few dollars. Sleepaway camp is my favorite slasher movie of all time and the 2 sequals are not bad. If your a slasher fan and you haven't seen sleepaway camp...Buy it.

Summary: 5 stars all the way
Review: This is the way a series of B-movies should be. If you like
a good B-flik horror movie. Buy this box set, it is good from
start to finish. The acting itself could use a little bit of work, but as far as the film go. GREAT. You even get production footage from the unfinished SleepAway Camp 4. All that needs to really be said is, 2 thumbs up.
