Summary: Don't Get Hosed... Don't Buy This!!!
Review: Call me an ungrateful whiner if you want, but I'm REALLY gettin' tired of this DVD-double-dip B.S. (see my guide on the Dreaded DVD Double-Dip Ploy at http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/guides/guide-display/-/3CVFIEG84F2PF/ref=cm_aya_av.sylt_sylt/102-3198679-2483309 )! Why does Paramount put together a box set of Star Trek movies on DVD where the first five are in fully-loaded 2-disc Special Edition format, but the rest are the regular versions? To hose the Trekkie (yes, Trek-KIE!) Nation, that's why! They figure the uberfans will buy anything and everything with a Star Trek label slapped on it, no matter how shoddy and inferior the product is! And Paramount's doin' this while they're still putting together and releasing SE version platters of the other flicks in the future! It's enough to drive a Trekkie (yes, Trek-KIE!) to go postal at the next big convention! BTW if you ARE planning on going postal at the next TrekCon, do me a favor and fire a few phaser shots set on "slow and painful death" at Wil "Wuss-ley Crusher" Wheaton, please? Thanks much...

Anyway-- as you may've guessed after reading the previous paragraph, I strongly recommend that you NOT fall into the DVD double-dip trap-- do NOT buy this box set! Either purchase the Special Edition platters as they come out one by one (the first five have streeted as of this writing, with The Undiscovered Country coming out in late January 2004), or wait until they're all released and snap 'em up in one shot in what should finally be the LAST FREAKIN' TREK-FLICK BOX SET Paramount will put out! While it's true that you'll hafta wait a while for the latter option, I believe it'll be well worth the wait. After all, haven't you been hosed enough?

'Late

Post Script: I've heard rumors that Paramount will be re-releasing the original series in complete season box sets some time either in late 2004 or 2005. Does the hosing ever stop with these jerks?!

Summary: Paramount really blew this off badly.
Review: Come on! They go an release these before they get to Star Trek 6 collectors or directors edition! That is just plane stupid. I will wait and buy them seperate, like I have been. Besides I own them all except for Star Trek 6.

Summary: This had so much potential, it's just sad.
Review: I have always enjoyed the Star Trek movies since I was a kid, and I have now completed my collection of all the Star Trek movies. I at first started to get them individually, I first bought the S.E. of ST VI, then I moved onto getting ST II, but Best Buy didn't have any, but did have the box set with 1-10, 1-5 being in special edition, then 6-10 being the original releases.
Because I already own the sixth one in S.E. I wasn't as fazed, but it's ridiculus for them to release such a set like this, espeically when it's all the movies as they were released, just in a cardboard box.
Box sets like these make me sick, the best box set that was ever created was the Nightmare on Elm Street box set, and that's cause the movies all look the same and blend in with the box itself. This one unfortunely is not like this at all, in fact this is the third box set I've seen for the Star Trek movies: A Box set for the original cast, an incomplete collection of the new cast, and this; the complete, varied edition, box set. Frankly there is nothing special about the box set, you get no extra DVD with special features, no identical DVD cases for the movies, NOTHING. Your just paying for 5 of the special editions and 5 of the original DVD releases, plus the box itself.

So do yourself a favor, buy them individually(it's cheaper) or wait till they release a FINAL box set that is much in the respect to the Nightmare on Elm Street box set or the Alien Quadrilogy Set.

Summary: Be Grateful for What You Can Get!
Review: Look, the more recent movies come with a decent amount of material. Stop moaning over the undiscovered country. If you are a trekkie and it really matters to you, you know that ST VI was not that great. And if it really matters that much, throw away 6 or give it as a gift and buy the new version when it comes. This is offered to give buyers a chance to have all 10 movies in a uniform package, and all in one view. Get it for 13.99 when Amazon releases it (it's in the same style), and get a life outside of TV. Buy it from a zShop for 140.00 and save the 30 bucks. Then you can buy The Undiscovered Country for 14 and get the super saver shipping. You will have saved a big 16 bucks. Hey, thats enough to get you a "PENNY PINCHING, UNGRATEFUL TO THE PEOPLE WHO BROUGHT IT TO YOU AT ALL GEEK" T-Shirt. Big props to PARAMOUNT AND AMAZON for bringing these great sets.

Summary: Good But Not Good Enough
Review: Look, they go to release all ten movies and they don't even bother to go and beef up the other five. That's reason why it gets 3 stars. I believe that Paramount could have done better with this release and well being the trekkie that I am it won't be bought until its fixed. But all in all hey at least they made an effort.

Review: They release the all the movies together in one pack every other month. Each time with the next movie in line a beefed up special edition added to the collection (this one being the fith movie). If you can't wait, go ahead and buy now. But if your just a little bit patient, and want to get them all with extra features (beside the amazing feature to change scenes with a push of a button, or the muy fabuloso trailer) wait a year.

Summary: The amazon review is wrong...AGAIN....
Review: This is a very dreadful packaged set of movies from Paramount (Patheic) Pictures, with the review sounded like he was paied a lot of money to say possitive things about mostly disapointing films. Do not buy this rip-off of a DVD movie boxed set and boycott Paramount for ruining Star Trek.
